314D LCR Power Offset Boom
Caterpillar is pleased to announce the availability of a Power Offset Boom option for the 314D LCR. Unlike a traditional swing boom machine where the cab moves along with the boom, the Power Offset Boom with compact radius (CR) platform allows the operator to stay in the same position to load and dump, which is a productivity enhancing benefit when working in narrow, restricted space. One of the more popular applications for this configuration is sewer and water line installation where right of ways are tight and the machine may need to work alongside fence lines or hillsides.
Bucket-to-Cab Avoidance Included with the Power Offset Boom configuration is a bucket-to-cab avoidance feature. This ensures safe operation while working in offset positions, especially to the left-hand side of the cab. To accomplish this, the linkage is equipped with rotational sensors on the boom, offset, and stick pivot joints. The sensors also provide additional information like linkage position via the monitor. The monitor displays the absolute or relative position of the front linkage in terms of height, depth, and offset in meters. Diagrams in the Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM, XEBU2730) further explain how height, depth, and offset are measured. It is important to note the system is tracking boom and stick rotation only – the machine is not tracking bucket curl angle. Depth measurements are based on bucket hinge pin location plus bucket tip radius. Whenever the operator presses the “Relative Indication” button, he is setting the “zero reference” for that particular parameter such as height, depth, or offset, depending on what is being displayed. An arrow will be displayed next to the word “Relative” on the screen, and the number displayed then represents the “relative” distance from the new zero reference location. This feature, which can be turned off, is intended to give operators a helpful idea of depth, height, and offset. It is not meant to be a “precision grade” check system.
“E-Fence” Another feature is “E-Fence,” which allows the operator to set limits on linkage movement in the vertical and offset directions. These limits – especially the one for height – can significantly enhance productivity and safety when working under obstacles such as power lines or trees, inside buildings, or above underground utilities that need to be protected. Multiple limits can be activated simultaneously if needed. The operator simply places the linkage at the desired maximum travel position and presses the appropriate button to set the limit. A small LED will light to indicate the limit is turned on. While the limit is active, the linkage will be prevented
from traveling past the setting with the cylinders actually slowing down as the operator gets close to the limit. To turn the limit off, the operator simply presses the button a second time. Refer to the OMM for more information.
Hydraulic Quick Couplers Power Offset Boom and stick lines for use with hydraulic quick couplers are available for the 314D LCR. In general, auxiliary hydraulics are not available. While designed to provide exceptional durability, use of hydra-mechanical tools such as hammers and plate compactors is not recommended for this configuration. However, specific application or customer needs should be discussed with the small HEX application specialists listed below. * Indicates that the load is limited by hydraulic lifting capacity rather than tipping load. The above loads are in compliance with hydraulic excavator lift capacity standard ISO 10567:2007. They do not exceed 87% of hydraulic lifting capacity or 75% of tipping load. Weight of all lifting accessories must be deducted from the above lifting capacities. Lifting capacities are based on the machine standing on a firm, uniform supporting surface. Always refer to the appropriate Operation and Maintenance Manual for specific product information.
