ISSUE: For COMMITTEE ACTION: PRM Expense 2015-001 BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: Pursuant to the Rules, it is the Committee's responsibility to consider and approve capital expenditures up to $200,000 for any of the three components of the Museum project (parking deck, deep utilities, and building). Attached for your consideration is Expense 2015-001 for the Building. It is summarized here: • Building Expense #2015-001 $40,560 to: purchase and install six (6) fans (two in each gallery). Each fan has a diameter of eight feet (8'). The value of this Expense does NOT require County Board approval. This Expense is to be paid from the PRM Building Care Fund. There is $200,000 appropriated in the current year budget. The remainder sits in fund balance of this special fund. Estimated fund balance on December 31, 2014 was greater than $3.7 million. The fans are at the recommendation of the architect and vetted by the engineering consulting team. The fans, in conjunction with modifications to the building automation software program, are intended to resolve the stratification of air in the galleries. Additionally, the fans along with the building automation changes will alter the temperature and relative humidity of the air being supplied to the galleries. Level 2 Scope of Work - Essence CAUTION: The following is a reference tool only. Please consult the Essence Installation Guide for complete installation instructions and safety guidelines. WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician! Incorrect assembly can cause electric shock or damage the motor and the controller! WARNING: Fan installation must be in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, and all local codes. Failure to comply with these codes could result in personal injury or property damage. CAUTION: The Big Ass Fans product warranty will not cover equipment damage or failure that is caused by improper installation of customer responsible work. General: Includes regular working hours from 7am to 5pm M-F, or afterhours charges will apply. To activate warranty coverage, the Check-In and Close-Out forms must be completed and returned to Big Ass Fans. Whether provided by Big Ass Fans or customer, lift is to be OSHA approved two-man scissor lift. If lift is to be provided by customer and lift is unavailable, or in unsafe condition, a replacement lift will be ordered and customer will be charged for the lift as well as any resulting down time. I-Beam Adapter, Wood Frame Mounting kit, L-Bracket Mounting Kit, and Z-Purlin Mounting kit are optional mounting accessories available for purchase through Big Ass Fans. Wireless Wall Controller is an optional accessory and can be purchased through Big Ass Fans. Angle iron or other steel added by installer in finished (non-industrial) spaces will be painted to match by installer. Wasted trips or delays caused by the customer, including timely access to work area(s), timely delivery of fans to the installers, fan/controller placement decisions, or incomplete customer responsibilities, will result in additional charges. CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY CONSISTS OF (MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO BIG ASS FANS ARRIVAL):
Receive and store the fan shipment in a safe, dry place until installation Install AC power wiring per NEC, from power source to within 3 feet of fan mounting location Provide and install a junction box for fire wire within 15 feet of fan mounting location (applicable only if Fire Relay Installation not purchased) Install fire wire per NEC from fire control panel to junction box (applicable only if Fire Relay Installation not purchased) Provide final tie-in of fire wire at the fire control panel

The installation of HVLS fans in buildings equipped with sprinklers, including ESFR sprinklers, shall comply with the following:
The HVLS fan shall be centered approximately between four adjacent sprinklers. The vertical distance from the HVLS fan to sprinkler deflector shall be a minimum of 3 ft. (0.9 m). All HVLS fans shall be interlocked to shut down immediately upon receiving a water flow signal from the alarm system in accordance with the requirements of NFPA 72. WARNING: The fan should not be installed unless the structure on which the fan is to be mounted is of sound construction, undamaged, and capable of supporting the loads of the fan and its method of mounting. Verifying the stability of the mounting structure is the sole responsibility of the customer and/or end user, and Big Ass Fans expressly disclaims any liability arising therefrom, or arising from the use of any materials or hardware other than those supplied by Big Ass Fans or otherwise specified in the installation instructions which can be found in our general installation manual.
