Image Quality: Exmor 12 MP Sensor with Full Pixel Read-Out for Movies The ILCE-7S features world’s first full-frame sensor capable of full pixel read-out without pixel binning process for movie*1 and various movie output formats. The sensor reads out image data from every pixel, even during Full HD and 4K*2 movie output. You can record Full HD videos at 60p (50p), 60i (50i), 30p (25p), and 24p frame rates, output 4K*2 videos at a 30p (25p) or 24p frame rate, and output Full HD videos at any frame rate except 30p (25p). *1 When used in 24p/30p movie setting *2 4K movie recording requires a 4K-compatible recorder.

Image Quality: Exmor 12 MP Sensor with Full Pixel Read-Out for Movies The full pixel read-out avoids moirè and jaggy effects which can occur with cameras using line skipping and pixel binning. As these artefacts are very difficult to avoid or correct the full pixel read out is a big advantage in the movie production workflow. Full frame DSLRs with line skipping

Creative Control: Picture Profile You can fine-tune the look of movies before shooting by adjusting gradation (Black Level, Gamma, Black Gamma, Knee), Colour (Colour Mode, Colour Level, Colour Phase, Colour Depth) and Detail. Adjusted parameters can be saved along with other settings as a profile, and up to seven profiles can be stored for later recall.

Creative Control: S-Log2 This proprietary Sony gamma setting, featured in professional camcorders, creates a 1,300% wider dynamic range for smooth expression of gradation with reduced whiteout and blackout. Through colour grading in post production, you can make the most of the low-noise image and super-rich detail to achieve various types of image expression.

Lenses Wide-ranging compatible E-mount lenses let you take full advantage of sophisticated features while comfortably shooting movies. For example, specially equipped lenses enable the enjoyment of Optical SteadyShot image stabilization or smooth, steady power zooming throughout the entire zoom range. Additionally, all E-mount lenses deliver smooth autofocusing and auto exposure.
44 options, The camera's short flange back expands lens via mount adaptors, so you can make the most of the current lens collection. The LA-EA4 adaptor, for example, lets you mount professional Sony A-mount lenses and enjoy continuous phase-detection AF. E-mount and A-mount lenses

The flange focal distance is the distance from the mounting flange to the image sensor. The distance within the E-mount system is about 40% the size of the A-mount resulting in an ultra compact body with true SLR-features.
A-mount SLR/DSLR lenses and adapters from Sony and 3rd parties are available
Due to the short focal flange back almost any kind of lens can be adapted, from rangefinder lenses to professional Cinema lenses, allowing the ILCE-7S to be used for any kind of application.
Alpha 7S Movie Shooting System Guide
E-mount Lenses The E-mount lens system currently consists of 24 lenses. FE-Lenses are suited for full frame capture, however even in APS-C capture mode, the ILCE-7S records Full HD movies without pixel binning or line skipping. The E-mount lens system offers the following benefits for movie shooting: • • •
Linear motors for quiet focussing and aperture smooth operation Optical SteadyShot (OSS) on certain lenses Power zoom lenses (3 APS-C format lenses and the Full frame lens SEL-P28135G)
Alpha 7S Movie Shooting System Guide
E-mount Lens Design for Movie-Shooting Power Zoom The focal length is controlled by a build in motor and can be changed with a zoom rocker on the lens.
Linear motor for focus and aperture: Silent, smooth and stepless control of the aperture in movie mode, avoiding sudden change of brightness while the aperture changes during a clip; fast, smooth and near silent operation of the focussing lens group.
Optical Image stabilization (OSS) for stills and movies The operating noise of the image stabilization system has been reduced to a level that will not be recorded.

Technical Info: SMO (Smooth Motion Optics) is a new Sony optical design concept for interchangeable lenses that is specifically aimed at achieving the highest possible image quality and resolution for motion images. SMO design addresses three main issues that are critical for moviemaking: • • •
Focus breathing (angle of view instability while focusing) is effectively minimized by a precision internal focus mechanism. Small focus shifts that can occur while zooming are eliminated by a special tracking adjustment mechanism. Lateral movement of the optical axis while zooming is eliminated by an internal zoom mechanism that keeps the length of the lens constant at all focal lengths

Metabones offers adapters to use Canon EF lenses on E-mount cameras which support automatic operation of electronic aperture, EXIF data, image stabilization and autofocus. More information: www.metabones.com
Due to the short flange focal length of the E-mount (18 mm), almost any lens type can be mounted on the camera using mount adapters. High quality mount adapters are available from Novoflex, Metabones and other manufacturers.

Camera Stabilizers Even with the build in optical SteadyShot shake from camera movement can not be compensate for camera instability caused by the movement of the operator's body. With a special camera stabilizer, either hand-held or mounted on a body harness, you can however create smooth moving camera shots, and allow the camera operator to walk, run, go up and down stairs, shoot from moving vehicles, and travel over uneven terrain without camera instability or shake. ILCE-7S as Camera for Set-photos (Unit Still Photography) Still photographers in a movie set often have to use chunky and expensive sound blimps in order to be able to shoot during takes without the shutter sound being picked up by the sensitive microphones. The ILCE-7S features a complete silent shooting mode using its full electronic shutter and therefore it is perfectly suited for set-photography.
R Different sound blimps
The ILCE-7S does not require a sound blimp
