IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook Connector for Esri Release Notes Version 8.9.1 May 2012
IBM® i2® Analyst's Notebook Connector for Esri enables IBM i2 Analyst’s Notebook® users to gain direct access to private and public ArcGIS Servers to enhance existing analytical workflow with geospatial views and analysis. Analyst’s Notebook Connector for Esri enhances Analyst’s Notebook through the Foundation Module plug-in. This allows the display and use of maps alongside Analyst’s Notebook charts. Intelligence data and geospatial data may be integrated on the map and chart. Simple geospatial analysis tasks can be performed and geospatial queries run over ArcGIS Server data using map drawing tools and buffers to determine the area of interest. Analyst’s Notebook users are now offered a level of self-service access to geospatial data and services that were previously inaccessible, improving responsiveness, reducing workflow dependencies on the GIS function and enhancing the output of the analytical process. Important: IBM i2 Intelligence Analysis software at version 8.9 is not compatible with earlier versions of i2 software. Upgrading directly is not supported. To install IBM i2 software at version 8.9, you must first uninstall all of your existing i2 software, and then install the new versions. The program or programs covered by these release notes are designated for deployment. .

What’s New in this Release? New Features in 8.9.1 Analyst's Notebook Connector for Esri 8.9 includes changes that support the integration of the product into the IBM technology stack. It provides guaranteed compatibility with other IBM i2 products that have the same version number. At version 8.9, IBM i2 products no longer support or require authorization mechanisms such as dongles or software license management (SLM). When you purchase or upgrade to version 8.9 of an IBM i2 product, you must upgrade your other i2 products to version 8.9 at the same time. The Lambert_Conformal_Conic map projection has been added to the list of supported projections. For more information, refer to the IBM i2 Analyst’s Notebook Connector for Esri Configuration Guide. Features in 1.1.3 This was a maintenance release that reduced the installation footprint without changing the feature set. Features in 1.1.1 The following new and updated features were included in 1.1.1: • Clustering of mapped items An option to cluster entities that are located in the same vicinity. At lower zoom levels, this will change the display of items from icons to a circle that contains a count of the number of entities. At higher zoom levels, these entities will display normally • Support for different coordinate systems Support for coordinate systems that use the following map projections: • Albers • Bonne © Copyright International Business Machines Corporation 1991, 2012

It can be configured to define other coordinate systems. • Multicultural support Translation of 1.1.1 is possible, and support on non-English operating systems has been tested. See Multicultural Support for further details of supported locales. • Drag and Drop onto a map surface Analyst’s Notebook chart items can be dragged and dropped onto an open Map Window. If you drag an item from the chart that doesn't have coordinates, then attributes on the chart item are created for the location on the map where the item is dropped. • Geocoding for chart items Chart items with valid address data can be geocoded to generate geographical coordinates. You can configure a geocoding service to specify how addresses are extracted from chart items. You can use the Geocode Address tool in the Toolbox to process addresses and generate coordinates for them. • Service Area Analysis Using Service Area Analysis you can find (for example) all the locations that lie within a certain time or distance from a specified starting point based on a network layer of streets. • Exporting maps as a picture file Map views and all other layers displayed in the Map Window can be exported as picture files (*.png), allowing them to be saved and printed.

Export maps to the Clipboard You can also export the map and all other layers displayed in the Map Window to the Clipboard so that you can paste them into another application. To export a map to the Clipboard: 1. Select Export Map to Clipboard from the Toolbox. To see just the Map Window, you will have to edit the generated bitmap in a graphics application, such as Microsoft Paint. Paste the graphic into your chosen application. Double-clicking to pan and zoom to map extents does not always work (#787) When double clicking on the layer tab for a dynamic map, it pans and zooms to the initial extents of the map, not the full extents. If the initial extents of the dynamic map are invalid or cannot be converted into the spatial reference of any loaded base maps, then again nothing will happen. When double clicking on the layer tab for a base map, nothing will happen if the full extents of the map are invalid. Uninstalling Analyst's Notebook Connector for Esri removes the ServerEndpoints.config file (#733) If you uninstall Analyst's Notebook Connector for Esri the ServerEndPoints.config file is removed, even if you have made changes to it. Invalid x/y values may be interpreted incorrectly (#187 & #687) Invalid x/y values such as lat/long values that are out of range, or BNG coordinates with decimal places, may be interpreted incorrectly. This results in either error messages displayed in the Sent Items list (in the Map Chart Items Task Pane), or items charted in unexpected places. If you hide items on the chart, they are not hidden in the Map Window (#619) Items that are sent from a chart to the Map Window aren’t hidden in the Map Window if you hide them on the chart. iBase chart item labels aren’t treated as addresses when the Mailing Address semantic type is used (#589) The labels of iBase chart items that have a Mailing Address semantic type assigned will not be treated as addresses.

Fails to geocode chart items if attempting to geocode more than the suggested batch size (#588) Geocoding services have a SuggestedBatchSize property which is set on the server. If you attempt to geocode more items than specified in the SuggestedBatchSize results in the additional items failing to geocode. Different links between the same items are merged on the map (#399 & 372) When items that have multiple links to another item are sent to a map, all links between these items are displayed as a single link. This can lead to overlapping label text. To work around this issue, consolidate links within Analyst’s Notebook before adding them to the chart surface. Once a spatial reference is chosen, others can’t be used (#201) If a map of a particular spatial reference is chosen, maps using other spatial references can’t be chosen, even if the original map is no longer in use. Analyst's Notebook Connector for Esri must be restarted to clear the current spatial reference. Same icon used for all features returned in query (#127) Currently all features on a single layer returned as the same icon, even when the underlying layer uses more than one icon. Selection and visibility problems with overlapping items on map (#110) When two or more items exist at the same location on the map it is only possible to select the top item. Items behind can be selected in Analyst’s Notebook but they may not be visible on the map Single mapped items can be selected from a chart item with multiple locations (#65) If an entity has multiple mapped locations you can select and delete only one location (on the map). This will remove all entries in the Sent Items list for that entry, but leave the other locations on the map. Chart item property changes made through the Analyst's Notebook API do not update mapped representation automatically (#56) Currently the map will only update items which have been changed in Analyst's Notebook via the Edit Items dialog. Items on map disappear after zooming in and attempting to pan to their location (#37) Items on map disappear after zooming in and attempting to pan to their location by dragging the map (using the mouse). This applies to any item on the map including routes. For example, when zoomed in and following a route it may disappear before reaching the end. 11

Dashed/dotted links (lines) can appear solid on the map (#39) Gaps between dashes or dots on (tentative or unconfirmed) link lines are too small for links with a small width, making the line appear solid.
