General Information: IM TEAM CAPTAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES Serve as official liaison between team and IM Sports Office. Player eligibility Communicating rules/policies to team members Positive influence of player conduct Inform team members of days/times of games Ensuring roster/record accuracy Additional duties/responsibilities can be found in IM Handbook: www.imsports.appstate.edu ELIGIBILITY Must be an ASU Student of full time faculty/staff Must have and be able to present a valid ASU ID every time they participate A player may only be on ONE Co-Rec and ONE Men’s/Women’s team Ineligible players will result in a forfeit and a loss for the team Refer to all other eligibility rules in the UREC Handbook on imsports.appstate.edu PRE-SEASON INFORMATION Purpose: Intramural Pre-Season Basketball is a continuation of our staff training by providing real time situations to apply what was learned in the classroom. All Officials, Scorer/Timers and Supervisors are required to work to complete their training for regular season. Your team will have the opportunity to practice playing together in games which do not count towards season schedule as well as the opportunity to learn IM policies and procedures. SCHEDULES: Ready by 5:00pm on August 28th, 2015 Posted on IM Leagues and Bulletin Board outside SRC All games will be played at SRC Main Gym o Parking is tight – plan accordingly ROSTER/PLAYER ADDITIONS There is a maximum of 20 players per team roster. Each player is encouraged to register on IM Leagues for the team they plan to play with during preseason. EVERYONE must sign a participant agreement and waiver (PAW) before participating. FORFEITS/DEFAULTS A forfeit occurs when no one from your team shows up to the scheduled game time o $20 penalty for a forfeit, billed to the captain. o If the team acquires two (2) forfeits during the season, they will be dismissed from the league. A default will occur when a team is unable to produce enough players on the court at the time of play (4 player minimum to start play). All players on the team must check in with their ASU ID to Scorer/Timer or Supervisor in order to receive a default for that game. o Two (2) defaults = 1 Forfeit, and a $20 fee o Three (3) defaults = removed from division. If you know in advance your team will not be able to play, fill out an Advanced Default Form before 2:00pm the day of the scheduled game. o Found at UREC Office in the SRC o Sunday Games: Must be done by 2:00pm, Friday
INCLEMENT WEATHER/CANCELLATIONS Will be posted on the UREC Hotline (262-UREC) by 3:00pm on the day of scheduled play. Also check www.imleagues.com for cancellations and schedule updates. ATTIRE: Closed toed/heeled athletic shoes. Jersey with number. (Participants of a same team must have different numbers) NO JEWELRY EJECTIONS: Ejected participant must leave game site immediately. Will have to meet with Eddie Simmons, Associate Director of University Recreation, prior to participating in ANY further IM activity.
To Start the Game: Have all your participants added to IM Leagues 24 hours prior to your game time. Once you arrive: 1. Captain Check In at the Scorer-Timer Table outside Main Gym of SRC 20-15 mins. prior to scheduled game time. a. Show AppCard b. Double check what court you are playing on. *If you need to add someone to your roster, retrieve Participant Agreement and Waiver from and Activity Supervisor.* 2. Check out Jerseys from Console. *Get enough for everyone who is playing! 3. Distribute jerseys to members. 4. Team captain will check at the designated check-in table with the check-in scorer/timer & captain’s pass. a. Once games have concluded on your Court, the Court Scorer-Timer will have your score sheet to check people in. 5. Be at game court no later than 5 minutes prior to scheduled game time. Additional Information: - If you do not have all players Checked In or Added by Participant Agreement and Waiver (PAW) by Game time, the clock will start. - Captain’s Meeting will precede every game. Reminder of safety rules/etc. Go over sportsmanship Decide which team receives possession first
IM Pre-Season Basketball Information: - Teams will play four, 6 minute quarters per game, with officials rotating in and out. - 2 Time Outs per game - You can expect multiple people on the court providing feedback to officials, scorer/timers and supervisors.
SPORTSMANSHIP Each team will be rated by Officials, Supervisor, and Scorer/timer (if available) following each game. Captains will have the opportunity to rate the opposing team. These ratings will be averaged to calculate a single rating for the game. 4 – Excellent Sportsmanship and Conduct: The team and spectators participate in the spirit and intent of the Intramural Sports program and University Recreation. Examples of a team and spectators of that team with Excellent Sportsmanship and Conduct include, but are not limited to: Showing up and having everyone checked in, ready to play prior to game time Supporting every policy enforced by staff Accepting the judgment decisions made by Officials and/or staff Displays a fun, positive environment 3 – Acceptable Sportsmanship and Conduct: The team and spectators display behavior which is adequate for competition and fair play. Examples of a team and spectators of that team with Acceptable Sportsmanship and Conduct include, but are not limited to: Players and spectators cooperate reasonably and rationally with the Officials and/or staff in a respectful manner Team Captain calmly and respectfully questions any calls or rule interpretations with Officials and/or staff Team Captain displays appropriate leadership qualities showing positive influence on team and spectators No vulgar language or gestures were displayed Teams which have enough players checked in and ready to play by game time, and the opposing team does not, will receive a 3 rating 2 – Sportsmanship and Conduct Needs Improvement: The team and/or spectators display behavior which is negative and takes away from the goal of the Intramural Sports program. Team has a player ejected for a technical rule will not receive greater than a 2.0 rating Default: Team which does not have enough players to play, either start or continue, and results in a default will not receive higher than a 2 (including Advanced Defaults) 1 – Unacceptable Sportsmanship and Conduct: The team and/or spectators display behavior which is in contradiction of the mission and purpose of the Intramural Sports program and University Recreation. Any team which has a player ejected for an unsporting behavior will not receive greater than a 1 rating 0 – Prohibited Conduct: The team and/or spectators conduct themselves in an unsafe and counterproductive demeanor which could put themselves, other participants and UREC staff in dangerous situations. Forfeit: Any team which does not show up to a scheduled contest, signed in by game time will result in a rating of 0 *Any team receiving a 0 rating, must have the Team Captain meet with a professional staff member within the Intramural program prior to next game. If the team Captain was not at the contest which the 0 rating was received, a member of the team who was there must accompany the Captain to the meeting.
