Consider PSE for the next step in your career. Job Summary & Responsibilities Puget Sound Energy is looking for an Applications Environment Manager to join our Quality Management Team. The Applications Environment Manager is responsible for the overall design, coordination, delivery and oversight of the PSE Applications environment. The initial and primary responsibility of this role will be for the critical PSE IT application landscape with a vision to expand responsibility of this role to the other applications in the PSE landscape. This position will be responsible for driving governance and standardized processes for managing landscape, system change requests and application maintenance. This person will work closely with various Application Support teams including Release Management, PMO, and Application Delivery. This person will manage the release schedule as well as ensure systems are available for projects, and ready for releases while also ensuring minimal production impact. The Environment Manager will also be responsible for establishing standards for and overseeing planning and communicating application refreshes, data refreshes, failover strategies and disaster recovery plans. The successful candidate will have excellent judgment, communication and coordination skills and will also be able to resolve conflicts quickly, determine the correct course of action and escalate issues when appropriate. Job Responsibilities • Drive application ecosystem standards including overall design, scope, change request processes and system maintenance processes within the Business and IT. • Employ or establish best practices for delivery of high quality, standardized and scalable integration solutions for application environments including ERP integration with both up-stream and down-stream applications. • Ensure comprehensive management of multiple-landscape development environments for ERP systems, such as SAP, used for production support and project development. • Actively participate in the project steering committees to ensure successful delivery and environment availability. • Review software lifecycle of vendor-proposed patches and security hotfixes and identify implementation strategy in coordination with project execution and Production Support. • Provide environment stewardship, ensuring execution and methodologies are in line with best practices. • Establish a Risk Management plan. • Monitor existing and emerging technology and development processes to ensure technologies and processes are aligned with PSE IT goals and strategies related to environment planning. • Develop highly innovative solutions within multiple technologies, theories and/or techniques that impact IT strategy related to environment planning. • Maintain the use cases and characteristics for each generic environment type and adjust when necessary, working collaboratively with impacted teams • Participate in and help coordinate the overall design, delivery, and maintenance of the application ecosystem. • Work with business partners, Application Managers, Solution Architects, Functional Analysts, Technical Analysts, and the Infrastructure organization to understand requirements and identify clear scope for environment usage. • Effectively interact with all IT members and business partners, including developers, Security, Infrastructure, Network, storage, end-users, business leaders and managers. • Collaborate with functional and technical leads, Quality Assurance team, infrastructure teams, delivery teams, project managers, and business leads in the review and documentation of activities occurring in each environment • Actively participate in project scoping and planning activities and ensure alignment between all parties in discussions related to environments • Ensure project teams coordinate with application support organizations as appropriate • Evaluate project-team requests for PSE IT systems that support the delivery of all projects consistent with committed dates, budget and scope. • Coordinate and communicate environment provisioning for each project. • Lead environment and landscape planning, in the context of significant concurrent project portfolio, defined software development and testing lifecycles, evolving business priorities, and emerging technologies. • Build strong partnerships with senior management to drive the development of the company's environment strategy across IT and other functions • Oversee the establishment and maintenance of Application Inventory. • Collaborate on systems maintenance and downtime planning and communicate those downtimes as needed. • Work with Release Management team to support Applications release schedule. • Work with Applications technology teams to plan and schedule system refreshes, software patching, upgrades, backups and restorations. • Effectively escalate well in advance when environments (hardware, available clients, etc.) cannot currently support the project work. • Oversee landscape planning in support of projects, including system roles, migration paths and development tracks, testing cycles and test data requirements as well as system refresh coordination. • Support infrastructure and application continuous improvement initiatives, including landscape and system architecture, capacity planning, application patching strategy, migration and release strategy, etc. • Highlight potential technology, testing, and resource collisions. Qualifications/Skills/Abilities MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree and eight years of experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. • Eight years of experience working and developing in distributed computing technologies. • Understanding of key ERP, such as SAP, system key concepts and integration requirements with affiliated applications. • Four years of experience in system design, programming and troubleshooting with relational databases (e.g., Oracle and SQL Server). • Demonstrated project management experience managing implementations of new enterprise-wide technology initiatives. • Experience as a project team member of an enterprise implementation. • Knowledge of network operating systems. • Proven effective track record of customer interactions. • Strong experience with software development lifecycle and change control. • Working knowledge of environment management best practices and implementation roadmap. • Working knowledge of testing cycles and best practices. • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. • Ability to support multiple project streams of varying complexity. • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion amidst competing priorities and vantage points. • Ability to create and meet timelines in line with business needs and constraints. • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills. • Highly self-motivated, driven work ethic, keen attention to detail and exceptional customer service orientation. • Ability to communicate highly technical information in an understandable manner to non-technical audiences both verbally and in writing. • Work experience reflects a progression of increasing responsibility into technical and leadership roles. • Demonstrated experience with mentoring others on methods and best-practices. • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple issues simultaneously. • Strong analytical skills; ability to perform complex system analysis and draw conclusions by relating information from different sources, including root-cause analysis and issue resolution. • Ability to drive improvement in IT to increase efficiencies while also increasing throughput. • Solid understanding of SDLC best practices. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Working knowledge of Configuration Management Database (CMDB) concepts. • Team lead or management experience. • Knowledge of CMMI and ITIL standards and methodologies. • In-depth knowledge management requirements for SAP ECC 6.0 environment, including ECC, CRM and BW.
