Introduction This high-efficiency subwoofer with laminar ports is the natural outcome of almost 30 years dedicated to design and manufacture sound reinforcement systems, combining high technology, elegance and emotion. The ML 28 system was developed to offer unique acoustical properties, an excellent sound image, an exceptional power handling capability, a very high timbral precision and an extended frequency response. The ML 28 can be used whether on the road or in fixed installations. It is perfectly adapted to sound reinforcement applications in concert halls, auditoriums, theaters, stadiums or in clubs.
Specifications The ML 28 is equipped with two 18-inch (48 cm) direct radiating neodymium woofers, with ventilated voice coils and a bass reflex loading at the top and bottom of the front panel. The usable system bandwidth goes from 24 Hz to 350 Hz. The ML 28 system is equipped with two speakON NL4 connectors. Only pins 1+ and 1- are used. Pins 1+ and 1- are wired in parallel, to allow direct connexion of supplementary ML systems. Wiring details are shown on the labels printed on the speaker’s rear panel. Connexion to amplifiers uses speakON NL4FC connectors (not included). The program power handling capacity is 4.000 W at nominal 4-ohm impedance. The peak power handling capacity is 5.600 W at nominal 4-ohm impedance. Maximum sound pressure level (SPL), measured at 1m under free field conditions, is 141 dB.
CONSTRUCTION The ML 28 cabinet is built in Baltic birch plywood. Its front panel is protected with a perforated steel grill, covered with an Airtex © acoustically transparent fabric (double layer, noninflammable). Each system is finished in black (RAL 9005), but can be finished differently, within the RAL color palette thereunder, or upon special order. To offer more possibilities, the cabinet and the acoustical fabric covering the front grill can each have a different color. The ML 28’s cabinet is extremely complex. It is built around a unique internal reinforcement structure, Matrix-type, designed to neutralize more easily the standign waves without using any supplementary absorbent material, and to suppress the energy losses caused by vibrations. The ML 28 is equipped with low-velocity laminar ports with progressive termination, optimizing the air streams to limit the effects of port compression and extremity diffraction. The ML 28 is equipped with six transport handles. A castor board (ML 28 DB) is available as an option, to move the ML 28 more easily. Dimensions are 39.37 in (1000 mm) x 30.31 in (770 mm) x 25.59 in (650 mm) (W x H x D). The enclosure weight is 182.98 lbs (83 kg).
