Read all safety warnings and instructions carefully before operating your grill. Step 3 Crumple up 8-10 single newspaper pages and make 1st layer of them on the charcoal tray. Put charcoal briquettes / fire wood on top of 1st layer to create another layers, repeat this step to form a pyramid shape. Light the paper, allow for the charcoal briquettes / fire wood to completely ignite. Spread out charcoal / fire wood over the charcoal tray by using long cooking tongs or long metal tube. If using a Charcoal Chimney Starter, follow all manufacturer’s warnings and instructions regarding the use of their product. Start with 8.8 pounds (4 kg) of charcoal. Instruction for using charcoal chimney (FOR REFERENCE ONLY) : 1. Begin with three full sheets of newspaper. 2. Take 2 sheets of newspaper and roll each into a tube shape and then give them a little twist to form each of them into a straight “rope” like shape. Be careful to not twist too tight. 3. Turn the charcoal chimney starter over and place both pieces of rolled and twisted newspaper along the inside bottom of the charcoal chimney starter to form a complete circle. Leave a hole in the middle of the charcoal chimney starter with no paper in it. 4. Crumple up the 3rd sheet of newspaper into a ball. Be careful to not crumple too tight. Sprinkle about 1 table spoon of cooking oil on the ball of newspaper. You can also use a few sprits of cooking oil from a spray can. Don’t use too much oil. Place the ball of cooking-oiled newspaper in the center of the charcoal chimney starter. 5. Flip the chimney over and add charcoal. Take care so that the newspaper does not fall out. 6. Use a match or long lighter to light the paper. 7. Stand back and watch the charcoal chimney starter do its stuff. 8. After charcoal has turned an ash gray color, carefully pour the charcoal onto your charcoal grate. Spread out charcoal / fire wood over the charcoal tray by using long cooking tongs or long metal tube. If you choose to use charcoal lighting fluid, ONLY use charcoal lighting fluid approved for lighting charcoal. Do not use gasoline, kerosene, alcohol or other flammable material for lighting charcoal. Follow all manufacturer’s warnings and instructions regarding the use of their product. Start with 8.8 pounds (4 kg) of charcoal. Place the charcoal in the center of each charcoal grate. Saturate charcoal with lighting fluid. Wait 2 to 3 minutes to allow lighting fluid to soak into charcoal. Store lighting fluid at a safe distance from the grill. Make sure charcoal grate completely placed inside the grill. Stand back and carefully light charcoal. Allow to burn until covered with a light ash (approximately 20 minutes). Spread out charcoal / fire wood over the charcoal tray by using long cooking tongs or long metal tube. Step 4 Adjust the cooking grate at desired level by turning the flywheel and ensuring lock in place, and then insert the Security Pin (33) at once to lock the ratchet locking device again for safety purpose. CG2093901-RG ENG Page 20 of 24 20131018 V.1 ARGENTINE GRILLING INSTRUCTIONS Before lighting a fire, check to ensure that lifting system and ratchet locking device of cooking grate are functioning properly, that collar fittings and flywheel are firmly anchored to the rotation shaft and those assemblies of the fire-grate, ash pan, cooking grate and basting pan have been completed as in assembling upfront. Raise the cooking grates by turning the flywheel front to back. The grates will be locked at any desired height. To lower the grates, grasp the flywheel with your right hand, while disengaging the ratchet latch with your left hand; then slowly turn the flywheel back to front. Coals are not necessary for cooking on this grill as it is designed for flame cooking. You may begin as soon as you light the fire, making sure, however, that the cooking grate is at the maximum height to avoid burning the food. Arrange the fire evenly in the charcoal grate, toward the center rather than only the back. Before placing your food, make sure the cooking grates are seated correctly with the open end of the channels facing forward. Affix the basting pans and add the ingredients of your choice, starting with a splash of base such as extra virgin olive oil, butter or wine. Liberally and regularly baste your food using a high-quality natural bristle brush. If one or more cooking grates become blocked with food pieces while cooking is in progress, free them with long handle spatula. Making best use of the V-groove Grate System Make sure the upper inverted V-bar of the V-groove The lower inverted V-bar of the V-groove Grate (7) MUST Grate (7) is correctly SIT ON the Cooking Grate be tightly bounded by the lower frame of the Cooking Support (12) as shown. Grate Support (12) as shown. Because you can regulate heat and convert juices into basting sauces, opportunities present themselves in ways you may not associate with grilling. For example, we recommend: l Whole poultry split and cooked flat, like steaks l Whole fish butterflied and cooked without turning l Vegetables and fruits – their sweetness is complemented by hardwood flavor CG2093901-RG ENG Page 21 of 24 20131018 V.1 Adding Charcoal/Wood During Cooking Additional charcoal and/or wood may be required to maintain or increase cooking temperature. Step 1 Stand back and adjust the flywheel (3) with care. DO NOT touch the grates by hand Step 2 Stand back a safe distance and use long cooking tongs to lightly brush aside ashes on hot coals. Use cooking tongs to add charcoal and/or wood to charcoal grates, being careful not to stir-up ashes and sparks. If necessary, use your Charcoal Chimney Starter to light additional charcoal and/or wood and add to existing fire. ! WARNING ! Never add charcoal lighting fluid to hot or even warm coals as flashback may occur causing severe burns. Step 3 Extinguish any hot ashes, coals or embers which may have fallen from the grill or beneath and around grill using water hose. TIPS and TECHNICHNIQUES You likely know the basics, so here are ways your grill will extend your range. 1. Basting. We cannot stress this benefit enough. The juices that flow down the cooking grates into the basting pan are the ideal foundation for sauces. Having them available transforms outdoor cooking in important ways. Meats and fish remain moist, with flavor enhanced and nutrients retained. Foods that would dry out or burn without basting become excellent grill fare. 2. Low heat. Precise heat control lets you cook delicate foods low and slow. For example salmon, butterflied whole on a bed of fresh dill and basted with butter cooks gradually in the moist heat, never baving to be turned or disturbed until serving time. Maintenance & Cleaning ! l l l l l l WARNING ! Always allow grill and all components to cool completely before handling. Never leave coals and ashes in grill unattended. Make sure coals and ashes are completely extinguished before removing. Before grill can be left unattended, remaining coals and ashes must be removed from grill. Use caution to protect yourself and property. Place remaining coals and ashes in a non-combustible metal container and completely saturate with water. Allow coals and water to remain in metal container 24 hours prior to disposing. Extinguished coals and ashes should be placed a safe distance from all structures and combustible materials. With a garden hose, completely wet surface beneath and around the grill to extinguish any ashes, coals or embers which may have fallen during the cooking or cleaning process. Cover and store grill in a protected area away from children and pets. CG2093901-RG ENG Page 22 of 24 20131018 V.1 Proper Care & Maintenance l l l l l l To protect your grill from excessive rust, the unit must be properly cleaned and covered at all times when not in use. Wash cooking grates and basting pans with hot, soapy water, rinse well and dry. Clean inside and outside of grill by wiping off with a damp cloth. If rust appears on the exterior surface of your grill, clean and buff the affected area with steel wool or fine grit emery cloth. Touch-up with a good quality high-temperature resistant paint. Never apply paint to the interior surface, such as ash pan or charcoal grates. Rust spots on the interior surface can be buffed, cleaned, and then lightly coated with vegetable oil or vegetable oil spray to minimize rusting. Check following components every month 1. Chain. Make sure the screws holding the chain to the rotational shaft and cooking grate support are firmly seated by tightening them with your screw driver. 2. Flywheel. Make sure the set bolt anchoring the wheel to rotational shaft holds it tightly in place for turning. 3. Lubrication. Put household oil on the suspension shaft where it passes through both sides of the frame or enclosure. Place another drop on the pivot point of the ratchet – lock that holds it at height. 4. Cleaning. Lower the surface close to the fire at the end of cooking and scrape away the charred residue with the long handle spatula. Clean with hot soapy water, rinse well and dry.
