To insure proper operation of the printer, please read this manual completely. DESCRIPTION The Ohaus Model AS142 Impact Printer, is a dot-matrix microprinter which can interface directly to various Ohaus Balances which contain an RS232 lnterface connector. The printer can be used with Ohaus Balances Models AP, AS, GT, TP, TS, CT, MB200, I5, I10, I20W, Explorer and Voyager. The printer interface is serial, RS232 compatible. Internal DIP switches can be set to baud rates from 150 to 9600. Additional internal switches are used to set parity and handshaking. There are two LED lamps, Power and SEL indicators, and two push button switches, SEL select on/ off line and LF line feed switch. The printer utilizes an impact dot matrix head in a 5 x 7 format with 42 characters per line, and can print one line per second. Ribbon life is 10,000 lines. Printing paper width is 2.25 “/5.7cm. Power is supplied through an AC Adapter which is included and provides 9 volts dc, 1 A to the printer. 4 UNPACKING Your AS142 was shipped with the following items: • AC power adapter • Instruction manual • A paper roll and a ribbon are loaded inside the printer before packing. It is recommended to save the carton and packing material for storing, transporting the balance or returning it for service. INSTALLATION Environment The printer should always be used in an environment which is free from corrosives, vibration, and temperature or humidity extremes. Controls The controls, indicators and connectors of the model AS142 impact printer are shown in the illustration below. CAUTION: 5 OPERATION Indicators and Switches Operation There are two indicators and two button switches on the panel of the printer. The power indicator is labeled ”P”. The other is the SEL indicator. A button switch is labeled ”SEL” for selecting ON/OFF. Another is labeled “LF” for paper line feeding. See illustration below for controls and indicators. P SEL LF SEL Indicators and Switches The SEL button can change the SEL indicator’s staus. When the SEL indicator is ON, the printer is ON. The printer working mode can be changed with button SEL and LF among three modes - self-test, on/off and paper feed. Self-Test Mode Self-Test checks the condition of the printer. If the printer prints out the Self-Test sample correctly, the printer is working normally. If Self-Test is wrong, the printer or power supply needs repairing. Self-Test prints out all characters in the fonts, then prints the messages about the interface type. 1. To enter the Self-Test mode with the printer OFF, press LF button then press SEL button. Release both buttons. The printer will enter Self-Test mode. NOTE: There are two ways to exit the self-test mode as follows: 1. The printer will exit self-test automatically after finishing the self-test sample print out. 2. When the self test sample is being printed, it can be terminated by pressing the SEL button. The printer will exit the self-test mode. On\Off Mode After applying power to the printer or being in the Self-Test mode, the printer enters On mode and the SEL indicator lights up. Press the SEL button, SEL indicator light turns off. Printer enters the Off mode. When the printer is in Off mode, it can not receive data. Press SEL again. Printer re-enters the On mode. 6 On\Off Mode (Cont.) SEL has another function, to interrupt the printout. If SEL is pressed and then released during a printout, the printer will stop after completing the current line. At this point, you can load more paper. To complete the printout, press and release SEL button. The printer will run again at the point the printout was interrupted. Baud Rate Selection The baud rate of serial interface can be selected as 150, 300, 600, 2400, 4800 or 9600bps. It can be set with internal DIP switches as required. To set the baud rate, take off the removable cover and the upper case of the printer. You can see the DIP switch in the upper right comer of the printed circuit board. Baud rate can be selected as shown in the Baud Rate Selection table. The switch near the white mark is Sl. The factory setting is Sl ON, S2 OFF, S3 OFF. The baud rate is 9600 bps. Parity Selection Parity Check can be set with S4 - S6 DIP switches as shown in the Parity Selection Table. These are set at NO Parity exfactory, S4 ON, S5 ON, S6 ON.
