A-BUS Multi Source Audio System With iPod Docking Station Congratulations on purchasing the A-BUS integrated audio system. With this system you will be able to listen to music from an iPod docking station through integrated ceiling speakers with pure audiophile quality sound. Using the remote control you will be able to select the desired volme level with ease. These instructions will explain how the system works and guide you through the installation process step by step. Carefully unpack each item and lay them out on a table or floor Ensure that all the components listed on the previous page are in the package and undamaged It is strongly recommended that you plug the system together now whilst it is laid out in front of you. This will help you understand how the system works and quickly identify any components that might have been damaged in transit. The next steps will guide you through this process. Take one of the 30m Cat5e cables and push the RJ45 plug (A) on the end of the cable into the RJ45 socket (B) on the back of the iPod docking station. Connect the RJ45 plug (A) on the other end of the 30m Cat5e cable into the RJ45 Socket (C) on the back of the iPod Output Plate. Connect the iPod Dock Power Supply into the iPod Output Plate into the connection labelled “15 VDC” (D) and plug the power pack in. Check that the Green LED illuminates on the power pack. Connect one end of the phono lead to the connectors labelled “Audio Out” (E) on the front of the iPod Output Plate and the other end to one of the A-BUS Audio Hub connectors labelled “Audio In” (F). Take another 30m Cat5e cable and connect one RJ45 plug (A) on the end of the cable to one of the RJ45 sockets on the A-BUS Audio hub labelled “Zone Outputs” (G). Connect the other RJ45 plug (A) on the other end of the 30m Cat5e cable to the RJ45 socket on the back of the A-BUS Active (Right) Speaker (H) where it is labelled “A-BUS Input”. Check that the Stereo/Mono switch (I) on the back of the A-BUS Active (Right) Speaker is set to Stereo. Inspect the 5m Speaker cable and you will see this has two cores. One of the cores has a white dotted line down the length of the cable. We will use this core for the positive (+) terminal and the other cable for the negative (-) terminal. Connect one end of the 5m speaker cable to the speaker terminal (J) on the Active (Right) Speaker where it is labelled “Left Speaker”. Make sure the core with the white marker is used for the positive (+) and the other core for negative (-). Ensure there is no way for the two conductors to be touching each other as this will cause a short and can damage the system. The speaker connector grips the cable by lifting up the black plastic tab which is sprung loaded. Give the cable a gentle pull to make sure it is secure. Connect the other end of the speaker cable to the speaker terminals on the Passive (Left) Speaker (K). Make sure the core with the white marker is used for for the positive connection which is the Red connection. This terminal is opened by pushing down on the sprung loaded release and then inserting the cable. By letting the release go it will close and grip the cable. Ensure there is no way for the two conductors to be touching each other as this will cause a short and can damage the system. Give the cable a gentle pull to make sure it is secure. Repeat above speaker connection from step 8 for each pair of speakers you have. Plug the A-BUS Power Supply into the DC power socket (L) on the A-BUS Hub where it is labelled “Power A” and plug the power supply into the mains. The system is now ready to be tested. Plug your iPod into the iPod Docking Station. You should see that the iPod is now charging. Find some music and press play on the iPod. Take the A-BUS Remote control, select the relevant source and press the volume up button whilst pointing the remote control at the Active Speaker(s). The red LED on the Active Speaker(s) should flash indicating it is receiving the signal and you should hear crystal clear audio coming from both speakers. If you have multiple pairs of speakers make sure each pair is working properly. You are now ready to fit the system into your house. The first step of the installation is to decide where you want the various items to be located. The iPod Docking Station is often fitted in a Kitchen or Living area for easy access to the iPod. The iPod output Plate and A-BUS Hub is often fitted in a cupboard out of the way. The speakers should be fitted in the ceiling of the room in which you want the audio to play. You may need to decide where they can go in relation to down lights to ensure a symmetrical pattern is achieved. Remember that one speaker is for the right channel and the other speaker is for the left channel and they should not be more than 5m apart based on the 5m speaker cable run. Fit the 30m Cat5e cables. When fitting the cables make sure they do not get snagged or damaged. Avoid using any cable clips that will crush the cables and do not over stress the cables by pulling them if they get snagged. When fitting the speakers, use the speaker cut out template provided to draw a circle on the ceiling in the speaker locations. Use a plasterboard pad saw to cut the hole. Use a pointed implement to prize the grill off. This reveals 4 screws. Connect the speakers up as before and push the speaker into the hole. With one hand holding the speaker in place use a cross head screw driver with the other hand to tighten up the screws. Tighten them up evenly. The blue plastic dog legs (L) will rotate and start to move down and finally grip the plasterboard to hold the speaker in place. There is no need to over tighten the screws as this can result in damage. The large back box should be used for the iPod Docking Station and the small backbox for the iPod Output Plate. One back box should be fitted where the iPod dock is to go i.e. kitchen and the other one should be loacted adjacent to the A-BUS hub. Once all the items are fitted and connected up, plug the two power packs in and repeat the test carried out earlier. You can now enjoy your integrated audio system.
