Installation
The Asigra Cloud License Server technology is a single point of management for your entire Asigra Cloud Backup™ estate. You can access the Asigra Cloud License Server from an easy to use and intuitive user interface to perform a number of license management tasks including but not limited to managing and provisioning capacity, expiration dates, notifications, and managing license states. A single instance of the Asigra Cloud License Server manages the licensing of all Asigra components in your environment – irrespective of whether the Asigra components are running on a physical or virtual server, the geographic locations of your data centers, or the software or hardware configurations that the components run on.
The Asigra Cloud License Server consists of two components – a software component and a hardware key (DS-Key). The Asigra Cloud License Server can be run on either a physical or a virtual machine and does not require high-end computing resources. If you choose to install the Asigra Cloud License Server on a virtual machine, the DS-Key can be authenticated with the virtual machine using a USB over IP device. However, as all Asigra components must authenticate themselves with this singular license server, it is critical that the Asigra Cloud License Server be installed on a reliable machine. Asigra recommends the deployment of the Asigra Cloud License Server on a simple physical machine with a reliable network connection.

Asigra Cloud License Server
Failover Protection To ensure high availability and provide failover protection, Asigra has built-in a provision to add one or more emergency Asigra Cloud License Servers to your environment. While one emergency license server is usually sufficient, you have the option to run an emergency license server each at the same location as the most critical DS-Systems so that backups to those DS-Systems can run without interruptions. An emergency license server is easy to set up and configures itself automatically based on the settings of the production server. Use of the emergency license server ensures that backup, recovery, replication, and archiving operations can proceed in the event that the production license server is not available.
As long as you have unallocated license capacity, you can add additional capacity to any of your customers’ or wholesale partners’ DS-Systems. You can use this functionality to provide your small customers with sub-terabyte provisioning of capacity. You can also configure the Asigra Cloud License Server to automatically allocate additional capacity to DS-Systems as they near their allocated license limits. The Asigra Cloud License Server then uses the unallocated license capacity pool to allocate additional capacity to the DS-System that is nearing its capacity limit. This ensures that backup jobs that are either in progress or have been scheduled continue to run as planned. The operations team no longer has to manually intervene at inconvenient hours to keep backup jobs running.
Managing Customer Accounts
License Capacity Management The Asigra Cloud License Server provides you with the ability to redistribute the capacity pools you hold across your various customers. This capability allows you to perform dynamic rebalancing of your capacity in response to fluctuating demand.
The Asigra Cloud License Server also provides you with the capability to set up individual expiration dates and time bound licenses for individual Asigra components. This is particularly useful when you are looking to provide customers with functionality for an evaluation period. If you would like to suspend

access to any one of the DS-Systems or BLM archivers of your customers, you can do so through the Asigra Cloud License Server. By changing the status of the licenses from Active to Inactive, you can ensure that no further backup or recovery operations can take place on those components until you flip the status back to Active. This functionality helps you suspend particular users without having to modify the licensing parameters.
Supporting multiple deployment models The Asigra Cloud License Server supports all cloud deploymentmodels – from private and hybrid to public clouds. Provide your customers with the option to select the model that they are most comfortable with and help them seamlessly migrate to a different model as their comfort with using cloud based services grows. A single instance of the Asigra Cloud License Server can help you manage customers in various stages of their cloud journey and empower you to continue providing them with services as they make the transition through the various models.
Modifying Global License Capacity To add capacity to your license pool(s), you need to send Asigra Client Services a copy of the c2v file which provides your current license status along with the changes that you need to the license capacity. n
To generate a c2v file, click the “Key Status” option from the License Menu on the Asigra Cloud License Server GUI.

C lient Services then can process your request and send you an updated v2c file.

Y ou will need to upload this file into your license server through the “License Update” option of the License Menu on the Asigra Cloud License Server GUI.

O nce the upload is completed, the license capacity gets automatically updated. All of this can be done without a system restart.
Monitoring and Control The Asigra Cloud License Server maintains system logs which help you in the unlikely event that you have to troubleshoot an issue related to the licensing or access of an Asigra component. Using these logs, you can check the status of the connectivity, system events, the results of the checking in of various components to the Asigra Cloud License Server, as well as any changes made to the licensing on the tool.
