Built to Perfection
HAND-CRAFTED IN THE USA FROM START TO FINISH
“Audio Perfection Realized™” is a promise. That’s why Induction Dynamics products are (and always will be) engineered, assembled, and finished by hand in the United States. Induction Dynamics cabinets are built by skilled artisans in Lenexa, Kansas. After woods are cut with a low-tolerance CNC machine, every step is done exclusively by hand. Expert woodworkers assemble and finish the cabinets using precision tools, handpicked veneers, and automotive-quality paints.
After the cabinets are completed, skilled technicians carefully assemble and install drivers and crossovers, with each component tested to meet the industry’s toughest quality control standards. Upon assembly, additional tests are conducted to ensure consistency and uniformity between each and every speaker. Wood veneer finishes are selected for the best, most consistent grain patterns, while painted cabinets are sanded and painted with as many as twelve coats to achieve the perfect depth and texture.
STRICT QUALITY CONTROL
HAND-SELECTED COMPONENTS
HAND-MADE CABINETS
While typical industry standards allow for as much as 5-10% variance between electrical components, Induction Dynamics standards only allow for a stunning 0.3% variance.
Induction Dynamics’ engineers have tested hundreds of high-end drivers and crossover parts. Along the way, they’ve even patented unique technologies to further improve these world-class electronics.
Cabinets are assembled in a state of the art, custom workshop in Lenexa, Kansas. Wood veneers and paints are selected, applied, and polished by hand, ensuring perfection.
ENGINEERING PERFECTION
Maximum Clarity
PATENTED TECHNOLOGIES OPTIMIZE DRIVER PERFORMANCE
S4X® Technology
Wide Angle® Technology
The name, Induction Dynamics, is derived from the patented S4X Super 4th-Order Crossover network. The S4X inductively stacked crossover coils not only take up half the space of traditional 4th order crossovers, but also produce the industry’s steepest crossover slopes. The unique design produces slopes in excess of 30 decibels per octave, optimizing each driver’s performance both individually and when interacting with the other drivers. The unique technologies increase control over range, frequency response, phase, and impedance.
Crossover frequencies are inherently problematic because sound from two very different drivers must be added together harmoniously, on and off axis. Typical crossovers are optimized on-axis, but allow phase mis-alignment in the vertical off-axis response. Vertical phase mis-alignment results in a loss of sound quality when standing up or reclining.
The S4X crossovers are overbuilt with the highest quality electrical components. Low saturation coils and low dissipation capacitors are designed to handle high power levels without heat buildup, ensuring consistent and reliable performance at any volume. Prior to installation, each crossover is quality control tested to within a 0.3% tolerance to ensure uniformity between individual speakers.
4
The patented Wide Angle Technology in the unique S4X crossover has the capability to completely align phase between drivers. By utilizing steep S4X slopes and Wide Angle Technology, the crossover limits driver interaction and optimizes phase in the off-axis region, generously widening the listening “sweet spot.” Experience consistent audio perfection - regardless of whether you’re sitting, lying down, or moving around the room.
PATENTED S4X® & WIDE ANGLE® TECHNOLOGIES Virtually all high-end crossover designs utilize slopes between 12 and 24 dB per octave. The S4X produces slopes that are up to 250% steeper, in excess of 30dB per octave. These steep crossover points improve
control of each driver’s frequency range and limit its interaction with neighboring drivers, resulting in smoother frequency response.
CONVENTIONAL SPEAKERS
INDUCTION DYNAMICS Approximate ear level while standing Approximate ear level while seated Approximate ear level while reclining
EXPANDED SWEET SPOT Most conventional speaker designs have a relatively small and narrow “sweet spot” caused by inaccurate phase matching of the drivers. In other words, they’re only able to sound their best within a very narrow area. Sound quality can fluctuate drastically outside of this area.
Patented Wide Angle Phase Alignment circuitry provides precise phase matching of the drivers, noticeably expanding the “sweet spot” vertically. Listeners enjoy clear, undistorted sound regardless of their vertical position.
SPEAKER STANDS/ IN-WALL MOUNTING FEATURES
Elevating Perfection
SPEAKER STANDS DELIVER STYLE AND VERSATILITY
Induction Dynamics speaker stands are designed from the ground up to match any series. Built from the same high-quality materials as the speaker cabinets, stands offer functionality and style for Induction Dynamics bookshelf, center channel, and subwoofer models. The most important function of a speaker stand is to raise the speaker’s tweeter to ear level. Humans can easily pinpoint from where higher frequencies (the kind a tweeter produces) originate. For music and movie dialogue to sound accurate, speakers must be positioned at the optimal height.
6
The ST1 is a single-post stand designed for bookshelf speakers and center channels, while the ST2 is a heavy-duty, dual-post subwoofer stand. Why a subwoofer stand? Placing a sub on the floor can result in uneven frequency response as sound waves reflect off walls, floors, and furniture. Elevating the subwoofer will minimize the effect that boundary loading creates and smooth out low frequency response throughout the room.
AUDIOPHILE ELEGANCE AND FUNCTION
WIRES REMAIN HIDDEN
Induction Dynamics speaker stands add visual flair while positioning the speakers at the optimal height for sound dispersion.
Every Induction Dynamics speaker stand incorporates a channel to run wires to the speaker. The channel is on the back side, keeping wires out of sight.
Unprecedented In-Wall Mounting
PATENTED HARDWARE PROTECTS YOUR WALLS
PATENTED STUD-GRABBERS™ ELIMINATE STRESS ON DRYWALL By attaching directly to studs, the patented Stud-Grabber™ system eliminates stress on drywall while providing a much more solid mounting. The Stud-Grabber system is designed to fit in between standard 2x4 studs for easy installation.
PATENTED RUBBER SUSPENSION ELIMINATES VIBRATION Heavy-duty, one-piece aluminum boxes with patented rubber gasket suspension decouples the baffle from the studs and drywall, thus eliminating vibration.
DYNAMIC SPRING SUSPENSION FOR IN-WALL SUBWOOFERS The movement of heavy in-wall subwoofer drivers could potentially overload the rubber suspension. To stiffen the suspension, Induction Dynamics® developed and patented a spring suspension that augments the rubber suspension.
GRILLE FABRICS/ FINISHES
Match more than Paint CHOOSE FROM 63 STANDARD GRILLE FABRICS All speakers come with a set of built-to-order grilles. An extensive selection of 63 standard fabrics add a splash of color to your listening room or blend in with walls, carpet, or furniture. Custom grille fabrics are also available by request.
Far from ordinary, Induction Dynamics grilles are assembled by hand and utilize a patented, non-reflective design that eliminates reflections and distortion caused by traditional grille designs.

ID1 SERIES
HIGH & LOW SUBWOOFERS The first thing you’re likely to notice about the ID1 is its unique subwoofer configuration – utilizing a high and low subwoofer. Why this nontraditional approach? Even bass response. Traditionally you’ll notice that as you walk around a room, bass response fluctuates widely - this is due to peaks and valleys called room modes. When subwoofers are located close together, they simply reinforce each other’s modes. The freestanding ID1’s utilize spaced subwoofers to reduce the effect of these room modes. When one subwoofer experiences peaks or cancellations, the other doesn’t. This normalizes peaks and valleys, dispersing bass evenly throughout the entire room.
10
MIL-SPEC 3-WAY/ 4-WAY SWITCH For extended bass response and greater sound pressure levels, the ID1 can be bi-amplified with a dedicated subwoofer amplifier. Although many loudspeakers feature simple bi-amp terminals for this purpose, the ID1 provides further control. For maximum versatility, the ID1 series features a defeatable low-end crossover switch that turns the subwoofer crossover on and off. The sealed high-current, 4-pole, cadmium plated switch gives the user three possible configurations:
1) 4-Way Passive Looking to simplify things? Attach the provided terminal straps and plug in your full-range amplifier to the bottom set of terminals.
Terminal Straps 4-WAY
2) Passive Bi-Wire This configuration leaves the internal crossover engaged, while giving you independent subwoofer control for better bass and transients… No external processing needed. Important: Make sure to remove the terminal straps in bi-wire mode!

4-WAY
3) Active Bi-Wire (Advanced) To take full advantage of bi-amplification, the “3-way + subwoofer” configuration defeats the internal 80 Hz crossover completely. Remember - you will need to apply an active high-pass filter to your main amp, and an active low-pass filter to your subwoofer amp. These filters are typically included as part of the subwoofer crossover in a home theater reveiver or processor.

ID1 SERIES
PREMIUM FULL-RANGE 4-WAY TOWERS Aesthetics and acoustics combine in Induction Dynamics’ elegant inwall speakers, providing reference-grade sound in a package that both audiophiles and interior designers will appreciate. The key to the compact wall-mounted enclosures lies with the patented S4X® crossover: The inductively stacked coils reduce circuitry space requirements, which allows placement of a full-size crossover into a shallow enclosure.
The ID1 Series is the ultimate in freestanding, full-range speakers. State of the art drivers, tightly controlled by patented electronics, pump rich sound from deep bass to crystal clear highs. For added versatility, ID1 and ID1.15 include a unique switch that toggles between 3 & 4-way operation, giving you full control over the massive built-in subwoofers. This switch allows the ID1’s to excel in 2-channel applications as well as left/right mains in a surround sound system.

C SERIES
CENTER CHANNELS WITH UNMATCHED VOCAL CLARITY The center channel is crucial to any surround sound system, as it’s the speaker dedicated to the reproduction of front-and-center dialogue. Induction Dynamics’ C Series produces crisp, clear dialogue and special effects at any volume. S4X® Crossovers optimize frequency response - music and dialogue that dramatically changes pitch won’t fade in and out, but will rather
maintain its power as it seamlessly crosses over from one driver to the next. Frequencies critical to human speech, like those that deliver consonants “S” and “C,” sound as natural coming from the C Series as they do in real life, ensuring your high-definition video has realistic audio to match.
HEAR THE DIFFERENCE The C Series offers a variety of models to match the ID1, S1, and S2 Series and delivers seamless audio reproduction that you’ve come to 18
expect from Induction Dynamics.

SW SERIES
SUBWOOFERS WITH TRANSPARENT, EFFORTLESS BASS “Boomy” bass is so prevalent in the home theater world that many listeners have never actually heard a properly-tuned subwoofer. Listeners shouldn’t be able to identify a subwoofer’s location. However, many subwoofers utilize designs that sacrifice linearity and transparency for sheer output, resulting in a large peak at the resonance frequency.
When coupled with an A2 or A3 amplifier (Page 24), the SW series also takes advantage of a patented frequency-selective excursion limiter. The excursion limiter allows the subwoofer to produce ultra-low frequencies, but prevents the driver from moving outside its linear operating range. The limiter is accoustically transparent, operating only at specific frequencies, without audible switching.
By utilizing acoustic suspension enclosures, high-excursion drivers, and a filter circuit to eliminate resonance peaks, Induction Dynamics subwoofers produce clean, authoritiative bass throughout the entire sub-bass range.
Like all Induction Dynamics speakers, the SW Series is available in a variety of sizes and mounting configurations. Freestanding models can also be elevated with the ST2 stand (Page 8). Subwoofers are available in any desired finish with your choice of 63 standard grille cloths.
Patented peak excursion limiter incorporates dynamic compression to limit the driver’s cone motion to its linear operating range. The limiting is accoustically transparent because it operates only at the specific frequencies of peak excursion.
Oversized capacitors and a toroidal transformer deliver extra power over short periods of time to accurately reproduce high-level peaks in the source material.
High-excursion, custom-made driver is built into a die-cast frame with an extra-large, high-flux magnet to maximize low-frequency response in a small cabinet.
Filter circuit with high power handling components eliminates the resonance peak produced by most subwoofers.

A SERIES
AMPLIFYING AUDIO PERFECTION A Series amplifiers provide massive real-world continuous power output, ultra-low noise and distortion, and built-in processing to match your Induction Dynamics subwoofers. Both the A2 and A3 utilize patented technology to reduce distortion and protect your subwoofers from damage. A patented, frequencyselective excursion limiter prevents the subwoofer from bottoming out.
For improved low end extension and increased sound pressure levels, the ID1 Series is also built to take full advantage of the A Series patented limiters and filters. The ID1’s bi-amp terminals and a unique 3/4-way switch (Page 13) allow both passive and active amplification of the ID1’s powerful dual subwoofers.
MASSIVE LOW-END EXTENSION, LOW DISTORTION Induction Dynamics amplifiers protect your subwoofers and eliminate distortion by utilizing a patented frequency-selective excursion limiter. 22
This limiter allows the subwoofer to safely produce even the lowest sub-bass frequencies without risk of moving outside its linear operating range.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM FOR INDUCTION DYNAMICS® “The ID1’s magically disappear into whatever source you put into them. They are, indeed, the time and space machines I’ve always sought and are now my standard against which all others must be compared.”
Hugh Mandeson, The Audiophile Voice
“The overall sound is coherent, musically involving, and tempts one to listen longer than planned. It was well balanced and full range, even at low listening levels. The ID speakers are solid, well-built with quality components, and the choice of finishes should provide an appearance to blend with most decors, whether in-wall or stand-mounted. This much versatility would be hard to find in another speaker.”
James T. Frane, The Audiophile Voice
“After listening to the Induction Dynamics ID1.18 we are, frankly, in a state of shock. For quality, performance, and price, these speakers are a rare value.”
Ross Wagner, The Audiophile Voice
“Resolution was immediately obvious. With both male and female voices, the S2s had a body and presence that was natural and completely engaging... Even at higher volumes, the upper frequencies are absolutely clean and composed, and the midrange is silky smooth.” “I found the ID S1.8Ts had such a full presentation side to side, up and down, forwards and backwards, that I felt like I could walk into their musical landscape.” “The S1.8Ts presented not only a broad, detailed soundstage but one that very much captured dimension.”
“The Induction Dynamics speakers are among my top picks and raise the bar for audio and home theater systems.”
Chris Lewis, Home Theater
Hugh Mandeson, The Audiophile Voice Arlen Schweiger, CEPro Gary Altunian, Widescreen Review
