 AUDIOVECTOR THE AUDIOVECTOR Mi 3 – SERIES FLOOR STANDING SPEAKERS A floorstander takes up almost exactly as much space as a shelf speaker on a stand. It is able to fill much bigger rooms with music and play louder, because its higher efficiency exploits the power of the amplifier more effectively. The Mi 3 series speakers build upon the design of the M3 – series, but draws on the advanced technology of the much praised S6-series. Cabinets The new Mi 3 speakers from Audiovector are all based on inert, sound dead and lopsided cabinets, which form a perfect foundation for the drivers. Driver topology The driver topology draws on the technology of the M3 and S6 – series floorstanders because this technology provides high sensitivity with a powerful bass. Sensitivity You cannot overrate the question of sensitivity: The higher the sensitivity, the better result you get from your amplifier – especially in terms of dynamic range. And the higher the sensitivity, the cooler you can run the crossovers and drivers thus avoiding the negative spiral of thermal compression. The latest driver technology The Mi 3–series draws on the technology from the S6 –series. A lot of the technical innovation from the S6- series has filtered down in the Mi 3 – series. The latest technology with respect to driver dynamics are integrated in the Mi 3– series speakers. The bass/mid drivers have rigid open chassis to avoid compression. The magnet systems are fitted with aluminium rings at the top and bottom, which reduces low frequency distortion with 20 dB compared to magnets without the aluminium rings. The pole pieces are fitted with copper caps which reduce induction (makes it easier for the crossover to work correctly) and which reduce high frequency distortion by 15 dB. Magnetic screening can be made to order. New treble drivers. The new Audiovector treble drivers T 2004/ Evotech 4 and Avantgarde Ultra are included in the Mi 3–series speakers. The T 2004 is faster and more detailed because of a very high viscosity ferrofluid in the magnet gap. This ferrofluid controls the magnetic forces and apply extra heat dissipation without damping the dynamic response of the driver. The Evotech 4 is even more transparent and full sounding than before. The membrane is made form a combination of silk and carbon fibre and the large aluminium front plate makes sure that all vibration is effectively damped. The driver itself is mounted in suspension bearings, which reduce interaction with the cabinet and gives a cleaner overall sound. The new Avantgarde Ultra has an improved membrane geometry which allows it to go up to 50 kHz. This means that it sounds even faster and even more detailed than ever before. Control and efficiency is provided by 5 ultra strong neodynium magnets, arranged in an open structure to prevent compression. New crossover technology. The new ”Direct Drive” crossover technology means that you get an even more transparent sound. The number of high quality components in series with the drivers is as always kept at an absolute minimum (allowed because we have designed the drivers for this purpose). The Direct Drive technology also provides even better 3-dimensionality and a better soundstage because the integration of the drivers is close to perfect and because special attention has been paid to obtaining an extremely even off-axis response. Technology from the world of professional loudspeakers The membrane/voice coil assembly uses glass-fibre material in stead of the often used aluminium in order to reduce hysteresis – a type of distortion which slows down the sound and prevents the driver from sounding transparent. This technology draws on the experiences of high power drivers for professional use and the technology of the S6 – series. AIC – Audiovector Interface Control. The interface between drivers and cabinets is an often forgotten theme. At Audiovector, we have found that by optimising this interface, you get a more dynamic, more full and more open sound. All M3i – series speakers (along with Mi 1 – series and AV3Ci – series speakers) have this innovative feature. A new grille. The effect of the grille of a loudspeaker is that of detracting from the signal and creating distortion. There are two sources of these problems: 1) the grille cloth itself, and 2) the grille structure. With a 12 mm thick and square edged grille, you get frequency deviations of up to +/- 4 dB. And by choosing a grille cloth, which is too tight-woven, you loose high frequency radiation of up to 2 dB. The new grilles for the Mi 3– series centre speakers (and the Mi – series in general) have almost no effect on the sound quality: The rounded edges, the thin structure and the very open-woven grille cloth makes sure that you loose almost nothing because of the grilles. The grilles are fastened by magnetic locks. This elegant solution is extremely effective in reducing resonance and is of course magnetically screened. Finish & colours. The Mi 3– series come in handmade cabinets with high quality silk-mat matched veneers in maple, cherry, rosewood and black ash. The grilles are covered with semi transparent charcoal grey cloth and the baffles are in a matching (tone in tone) light grey structural finish.
