The special highlight of the roadshows will be the live demonstration of the MAGIC XIP Audio Codecs for Audio over IP transmission, as well as the presentation of the concepts for the new IP telephone hybrids. Of course, the ISDN products, such as, e.g., the double hybrid MAGIC TH2 and the

Another point on the agenda is an exchange of experiences and ideas between AVT and the participants to discuss and collect suggestions for future developments and extentions of existing products. As usual, AVT will naturally also take care of the
physical well-being of its guests with free food and drinks and hopes for a large attendance.
Audio over IP News N/ACIP working group agrees on new standard
O
n 8th September 2007 in Amsterdam, the N/ACIP working group of the EBU agreed on a common standard for the Audio over IP transmission. The project group, which consists of representatives of the broadcasting stations and codec manufacturers, announced in the EBU press release that the new standard was based on open IETF standards such as RTP and SIP and that it could be seen as an extension of the Voice over IP Standard. As one of the co-
dec manufacturers, AVT took also part in the working group and will implement the Audio over IP standard as soon as possible for the MAGIC AC1 XIP Audio Codecs. For MAGIC AC1 XIP Systems which have been bought before the availability of the new standard, AVT will provide a software update free of charge. The complete EBU press release concerning this topic can be found on the AVT website under www.avtnbg.de.

In addition to Euro ISDN, US and Japanese ISDN Protocols are now also available
T
he AVT MAGIC Audio Codecs can now also be used in countries where the Euro ISDN Protocol is not available. In addition to the Euro ISDN DSS-1 Proto-
col, which is used in Europe, South America, Asia, Australia and in the Middle East, AVT has now implemented the National ISDN-1 ISDN protocol for North America
and the INS-NET64 Protocol for Japan. Today, almost all national ISDN standards, such as, e.g. 1TR6 in Germany, VN4 in France or 5ESS in the USA, are replaced by
the international standards named above. In addition to the ISDN dial-up protocols, ISDN
Easy if you know how... MAGIC Tips TIP 1: Switching off the ring tone of the MAGIC TH2 or TH2 POTS Telephone Hybrid by using a TTL contact If you use the internal ringing tone over the Piezo sounder of the MAGIC TH2/TH2 POTS, incoming calls can be disturbing during ON AIR programmes. To avoid this problem, the microphone fader can now be connected with a TTL contact of the system, whereby the ringing tone over the Piezo sounder is switched off as soon as the fader is set to high. Now, incoming calls are only indicated visually. TIP 2: Measuring the busy/drop tone with the MAGIC Systems with POTS interface Since the signalling of the busy/drop tone of POTS telephone lines is different in some countries, a measuring tool to recognise the busy tone has been implemented in the MAGIC systems. The measuring can be done via the Windows PC software. In this way, the systems always recognise for sure when the connection is dropped.

Leased Line Modes can also be selected. The AVT Audio Codecs provide Leased Line Modes for 2B channel (128kbit/s) and 1B channel (64kbit/s) connections. When a 1B channel connection is used, the user can differentiate between the use of the first or the second B channel. For Japan, the Leased Line Modes have been extended by special signalling procedures.
ISDN protocols also available for MAGIC TH2 Telephone Hybrid
Of course, the ISDN protocols have been also implemented for the MAGIC TH2 Telephone Hybrid. The ISDN double hybrid can now be operated with ISDN lines that use the Euro ISDN, the NationalISDN-1 or the INS-NET64 protocol.
DAB News MAGIC AE1 DAB Audio Encoder now with DAB+
T
he MAGIC AE1 DAB Audio Encoder with Monitoring Decoder is now available in two versions that are realised by different DSP modules. In the ’’normal“ DAB version, the Audio Encoder provides the ISO/MPEG Layer 2 algorithm, whereas in the DAB+ version, the new MPEG-4 HE-AAC V2 coding standard is supported. This new algorithm is characterised by a high efficiency in the use of the DAB capacity. MAGIC AE1 DAB systems that were bought in the past can also
be upgraded into DAB+ systems with the help of a DAB+ Upgrade (DSP module plus firmware). In the near future, AVT will also offer complete solutions for DAB with Ensemble Multiplexer. These complete solutions will also support operation via IP networks. For more information about the latest DAB developments at AVT, please keep an eye on our website, www.avt-nbg.de.
In more than twenty coun-
tries, distributors are taking care of AVT’s international customers and ensure optimal and extensive product consulting directly on site. Through this network of international partner companies, AVT’s product presence in the broadcasting stations is growing and growing. In the following newsletter editions, we would like to introduce some of the AVT distributors. In this edition, we will begin with Mr Renaud Delapraz from RED AUDIO Pro, AVT distributor for Switzerland. RED AUDIO Pro is located in St. Légier and has been selling the AVT Audio products since the year 2002. Mr Renaud Delapraz, Sales and Marketing Director and company owner at the same time, has already been working in the broadcast industry for more than forty years.

tery can be mounted on the bottom side of the units and forms a compact unit
together with the system, which is perfect for mobile use because of its light weight. With a size of 193 x 24 x 135 mm and a battery life of 1.5 hours, the new battery offers - even during a power blackout - an uninterruptible operation. If the battery pack is connected to the external power supply of the system, the
system is supplied with power and at the same time, the battery is charged during operation. The unit also has a charging control which is signalled by LEDs. The battery pack will be available from November 2007.
