Press Release   Award-Winning Children’s Tech Company PLAYBRUSH OFFICIALLY LAUNCHING 25 NOVEMBER PLAYBRUSH, the new unique device to gamify toothbrushing and encourage children to brush healthily, is officially available from 25th November. First products will be shipped to Kickstarter backers, who supported the health-tech project last May in a successful crowdfunding campaign. Last week, on the 13th November, PLAYBRUSH was awarded with the Gamification World Award 2015 for the Best Technological Innovative Contribution in Barcelona. The core technology – the first of its kind to be launched – consists of both a hardware device and interactive mobile games. The hardware device attaches to any conventional manual toothbrush and transforms it into a smart game controller, so children can play fun and instructional games whilst brushing their teeth. The games are specifically designed to foster good oral hygiene. While the children control the games with their toothbrush, they get feedback on their brushing skills by linking it to in-game performance. Around the 2-min brushing experience, the Playbrush team has designed a beautiful toothbrushing world called Utoothia, where the brusher has to save the Tooth Fairy from the evil Crobies (bacteria monsters). Playbrush was invented by entrepreneur Paul Varga, 28, a reluctant brusher himself who was inspired by his young godson. Seeing how difficult it was to persuade an adventurous child to clean their teeth and observing techniques and incentives that his mother had tried, Paul came up with Playbrush. To make brushing kids’ teeth finally fun, Paul teamed up with former classmate Tolulope Ogunsina and childhood friend Matthäus Ittner and have been working with renowned dentists all over Europe. Dr Paul Ashley, Head of Paediatric Dentistry at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute, says: "It’s important that kids learn about brushing habits and oral hygiene early in life – particularly that they learn to brush everywhere and for two minutes each time. Playbrush seems like a fantastic way to encourage kids to brush regularly, for long enough and accurately. It is a really smart idea and we are glad to support them where we can." After completing a successful Kickstarter campaign in May and Seed Investment from popular Austrian Angel Investor Hansi Hansmann, Playbrush’s first product is now ready for shipping. The iOS version will launch at the end of November, the Android version at the end of December and first devices will be shipped in the last week of November. Wendy, a mother in London, cannot await her device: “My Son Aidan (6) has tested 2 of the prototypes. It has totally transformed the way he brushes his teeth, asking if he has brushed for 2 mins and if he has done so correctly. He wants to brush his teeth more than twice a day to keep the baddies at bay!” While the first batch of Playbrush is almost sold out, there are still some devices available to order online (www.playbrush.com/order) for GBP 39/EUR49.
