150-B58 Music Technology Lab General Information WHEN YOU FIRST SIT DOWN In a perfect world, this computer would be setup the same way any time you sit down to use it. But in reality someone has probably been here before you today, and there is no way to tell how they might have changed the normal settings. Follow these steps to reset the computer and hardware: Located in the /Applications/Utilities folder is a program called System Restore (this is also in the dock). This program will reset the computer — and almost all its software — to a default state. Running this program will erase any file of yours on the system drive (named Macintosh HD on department computers; this includes any files on the Desktop). External drives as well as the computer's Media Drive will not be erased. You must also reload the default configurations for both the MOTU Ultralite AVB and the MOTU Micro Express. See reset information for individual devices. The restore process does not set certain audio interface preferences for much of the software, please check and set the audio interface as you open and use applications. GOOD PRACTICES • Save your work on the Media Drive. Unlike the Desktop folder, the Media Drive is not erased by the System Restore program. • ALL files on the lab computers are automatically erased overnight. (This does include the Media Drive.) • Do not open a file directly from a CD, DVD, or USB Flash drive. Copy the files you need to the Media Drive, eject the disc (or drive), and open the new copy • USB Flash drives are very slow to transfer and often end up with corrupt directories. We recommend using powered USB, FireWire, or Thunderbolt drives. FURTHER INFO All facilities info is available on the EP/D Website.
