Basic Bluetooth Connectivity Procedures When connecting a Bluetooth host device with our D-O Bluetooth printer, there are basic procedures that have to be followed in order to accomplish the connection. The exact procedure you will need to do will depend on the equipment you are using to connect to your Datamax-O’Neil Bluetooth printer. When you are first connecting and trying to print to the printer, it is recommended to remove any security that may interfere with your connectivity so make sure Authentication is set to NO. You will also need to make sure your host device does not require a pin or passkey. (If you are unable to set the host device to not require a pin or passkey, you will need to set Authentication to ON in the printer and enter a passkey such as 0000). • Discovering Devices - There should be an application or a means of discovering Bluetooth devices by your handheld or pc such as a BT Explorer. This application will go out and search for BT devices that are within range (approximately 30 ft.) and list them out either by BT Device name or BT device address (MAC address). • Once you have a list of devices, look for the D-O printer you are wanting to print to on that list. • Select the printer and either click Connect or Next (follow the instructions on the screen). • The next thing you may be asked for is the services. This could be serial or Bluetooth. The application just needs to find the services that are on the printer and select them. • You may have to click Next (just follow the instructions on the screen) but you should get a message that says, Connected. When it does, you should get a Com Port that it is connected to. Following are some screen shots from a Motorola handheld. Open the BTExplorer Select “Associate Serial Port” so that whenever we talk to that COM port it will redirect it to our Bluetooth device. Create a new Connection Pick the printer you want to use, you might have to do “Discover” again if it is not present. It will then enumerate the services on the device. If it fails open the over and press the red paper feed button then try step 4 again. At this point you can select the COM port you want to use. After you click Finish it will be added to your Favorites list and automatically used next time communication with the selected COM port is performed: Now that you have a com port for Bluetooth, to test, you can download and install Printer Demo from the website. You install it on your host device, set up the Bluetooth communications to that port number, and then test your printing using the appropriate file for your printer. If you were still unable to print, feel free to contact the Datamax-O’Neil Technical Support Help Desk at 407-523-5540.
