See overleaf for the annotations for foul types. A technical foul recorded against a Coach for his own personal behaviour shall be indicated by entering a C next to the minute (e.g. 10 C). A technical foul against the Coach for any other reason shall be recorded by entering a B next the minute (e.g. 10B). A second personal technical foul or unsportsmanlike foul against a player or coach should be followed by GD (game disqualification) in the next following space. At the end of each period, the scorer shall draw a thick line between the spaces that have been used and those that have not been used. At the end of playing time, the scorer shall obliterate the remaining spaces with a thick horizontal line. End of playing time Foul codes Team Fouls For each period, 4 spaces are provided to enter the team fouls in the score sheet (immediately below the team’s name and above the player’s names) Whenever a player commits a personal, technical, unsportsmanlike or disqualifying foul, the scorer shall record the type of foul against the team of that player using the same minute and type indicator used in the personal foul Recording timeouts Only the coach or assistant coach can ask for a Timeout. These requests should be made to the scorer. Timeouts are recorded in the appropriate boxes with the minute in which they occur. When both coaches ask for a timeout at the same time, the timeout will be charged to the coach who made the request first UNLESS a basket is scored enabling the coach who asked second to have the time out. Note: if either team have not taken their first time out in the 2 nd half before that last 5 minutes of the 4th period, the first timeout box should be obliterated with two thick parallel lines Recording substitutions Substitution requests should come from the player who is ready to enter the court, both during a game and following a timeout or period break. The scorer should check the player is included on the score sheet and has not either been disqualified or received 5 fouls. Recording the Score The scorer shall keep a chronological running summary of the points scored by each team in the score section of each score sheet. The area used for the recording is divided into 3 main areas: First half scores (periods 1 & 2) Second half scores (periods 3 & 4) Extra period score Each area is divided into sets of 5 columns. The centre column of the 5 is shaded and headed with an ‘M’; this is used to record the minute in which the basket is scored. Either side of this column is a set of 2 columns in which to record the player’s number and the running score. The scorer shall write ‘A’ or ‘B’ either side of the minute column. The order in which this is entered is dependent on the direction the teams are shooting. If team B are shooting to the left of the scorer, then B is written above the two columns to the left of the minute column, A to the right. In the second half these will be reversed as the teams change ends When a player scores, their number is written in the left hand colum of the group of two and the score in the right hand column. If this was the first score in that minute, the minute number is also entered. Add the points scored to the previous running total for that team and enter the new running total in the right hand column of the two. Only enter one score on each line Do not repeat the minute if it has not changed from the previous score (except when moving to a new column) If a player accidentally scores a field goal in their own basket, the points are recorded as having been scored by the court captain of the opposing team. If the player scores a 3 point attempt, circle the player number (not score) Record all free throw attempts, even those missed by boxing round the score over three sideds, top, bottom, and left (between the player number and score). Insert the player number against every free throw box. If the free throw is successful add 1 point to the running score. If unsuccessful insert a short horizontal line in the running scire column. Continue scores for period 2 and 4 underneath those of period 1 and 3 Switch the scoring columns over at half time. Whenever you start a new column, copy the total score from the previous columns to the top of the next set. Whenever possible, after making the entry, the scorer should check their total with the visible scoreboard and other table officials. If there is a descrpancy the scorer should check their record. If it appears correct they should immediate;y have the scoreboard corrected. If there is any doubt or teams query the change, the scorer should inform the referee when the game clock stops next.
