Safety instructions
Only qualified trade personnel or Bizerba service technicians may open the device components. Take note of the charger instruction manual.
3.1
Protective and safety equipment
Only start the equipment after all protection and safety devices are operational. The protection and safety devices of the equipment must not be changed or bypassed. Prior to start-up the user must check the entire installation in accordance with valid guidelines.
3.1.1
BK-Ex 24 V grounding
For safe operation it is sufficient if the housing of the battery box stands on a conductive surface which is connected to the electrical bonding. The own weight of the battery box establishes a sufficient electrical connection. The battery box does not need to be additionally connected to the electrical bonding system. The bleeding resistance must be checked prior to start-up. The bleeding resistance between the metal housing of the battery box and the electrical bonding system must always be ≤106 Ω.
3.1.2
Electric outlet BK-Ex 24 V If the battery box is out of operation the hinged lid of the electric outlet must be locked.
3.2
Storage Do not store battery box containing discharged batteries.

Medical information for persons with active implants
Active implants are, e. g. pacemakers or defibrillators. If a safety distance of 30 cm is maintained between field source and implant, it might be very unlikely that active implants are affected in any way. Non-ionizing radiance is not generated intentionally, but is a technical effect caused through electrical equipment: e.g. electric motors, high-voltage cables or magnetic coils. Furthermore, the device is not equipped with strong permanent magnets.

Battery operation
5
Instruction manual BK, BK-Ex 24 V
Battery operation
During battery operation pay attention to charge condition. In order to prevent harmful and dangerous discharge of the batteries a deep discharge protection is required. For the 24 V version of the battery box the deep discharge protection is to be realized at a battery voltage of 21 V as per technical data. The discharge current is to be limited to max. 4 A by a safety fuse. Install battery box with handle in upward position!
The batteries' life span decreases if constantly operated almost discharged. Even during stand-by mode, there is low power. If the terminal is not in use for several days, it is recommended to disconnect it from the battery box. Operation with Bizerba terminals Battery operation starts as soon as the battery box is connected to the terminal [} 16]. During battery operation the charge condition of the battery pack is constantly checked. If in the status display of the terminal is shown that the nominal power of the battery pack has fallen below, the terminal automatically switches off after about 10 minutes.

Charge battery pack
Charge battery pack
If the batteries are discharged up to the minimum voltage charging takes about 6-7 hours. After this time the batteries are re-charged by approx. 90% and ready for operation. In order to increase the battery life, batteries should be charged 100%. This will take approx. 12 hours.
6.1
Battery box BK When charging battery packs, please note the following: – Only use the battery charger (12 V/5 A or 24 V/2.5 A) specially developed for maintenance-free lead gel battery packs. – Only charge batteries in a dry and clean environment. – Install battery box with handle in upward position! – While charging, the battery box must be vented. – Vent must not be covered. – Prevent dirt from entering the housing. – Charging must not be interrupted. – After charging the vent must be closed again. In order to vent the battery box during charging remove red screw cap [} 7]. Connect battery box with charger [} 16]. The charging progress is indicated by a LED status display on the charger. Charging must not be interrupted. After charging is completed, the charger switches to conservation charging. Further information can be found in the charger instruction manual. When the batteries are charged, close vent with red screw cap [} 7]. Vent must only be open during charging!

Changing batteries
Changing batteries
The life span of a battery pack depends on the number of charge and discharge cycles. A battery pack replacement is necessary if the initial operational time can no longer be reached in spite of the battery pack being fully charged. Only qualified trade personnel or Bizerba service technicians may open the device components. Battery box BK-Ex 24 V For battery box BK-Ex 24 V all batteries must be replaced. Only original batteries tested for explosion protection together with the device must be used. Do not replace individual batteries!

Maintenance
8.1
Cleaning
Clean with a soft, lint-free, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive agents. Cover device when building is cleaned. In an explosive risk atmosphere the surface must not be cleaned with a dry cloth.
DANGER Voltage in housing and at mains supply line! Danger to life from electric shock. – Do not use pressurized water for cleaning! For cleaning, it is not permitted to use: – Sharp, hard or pointed objects – Water or steam jet devices – Compressed air – Cleaning agents that are hazardous to health or that contain solvents
8.1.1
Stainless steel surfaces
Devices made of stainless steel are extremely weather resistant and therefore suitable for most environmental conditions. However, stainless steel can corrode as well (rust). If rust appears on the surface, this is surface rust and does not come from the material itself. This rust is a result e.g. of contact corrosion for example. Maintenance information for stainless steel Bizerba only uses high-quality stainless steels. To avoid the formation of rust on high-quality steel parts the device should not be treated to substances containing chloride (e. g. cleaning agents or disinfectants) and should not be exposed to a chloride atmosphere. If this cannot be avoided, rub the steel parts with cleaning oil immediately. This is absolutely necessary to prevent rust formation. Cleaning oil: e. g. Bizerba service oil (material number 94008900022). The cleaning oil complies with the German Food and Commodities Act (LBMG, §5, para. 1, sentence 1), fulfils the requirements of the "guidelines of sec. 21 CFR 178.3570 of FDA regulations" and has an H1 approval according to USDA. Cleaning agents for stainless steel surfaces – Any stainless steel cleaner is permitted. Make sure to read the instructions for use before using the device. – Halogen-free (i.e. without chloride and fluoride ions), hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acidfree cleaning agents are also permitted. – Completely remove cleaning agent after cleaning.
