Laney BC SERIES USER MANUAL MODEL : BC250 Laney 1 INTRODUCTION Congratulations on your decision to purchase a Laney amplifier. Laney products are designed with ease of operation as a primary objective, however to ensure you derive the best from your new amplifier, it is important you take time to read this user manual and to familiarise yourself with the control functions and facilities available BEFORE SWITCHING ON After unpacking your amplifier check that it is factory fitted with a three pin 'grounded' (or earthed) plug. Before plugging into the power supply ensure you are connecting to a grounded earth outlet. If you should wish to change the factory fitted plug yourself, ensure that the wiring convention applicable to the country where the amplifier is to be used is strictly conformed to. As an example in the United Kingdom the cable colour code for connections are as follows. EARTH OR GROUND - GREEN/YELLOW NEUTRAL - BLUE LIVE - BROWN This manual has been written for easy access of information. The front and rear panels of each unit are graphically illustrated, with each control and feature numbered. For a description of the function of each control feature, simply check the number with the explanations adjacent to each panel. When you first recieve your Laney amp, follow these simple procedures: (i) Ensure that the amplifier is set at the correct voltage for the country it is to be used in. (ii) Connect your instrument with a high quality sheilded instrument cable. Use of cheap cables will compromise the sound of your instrument and your amplifier. If there is a problem with your Laney amplifier DON'T DO PHONE YOUR DEALER! Care of your Laney amplifier will prolong it's life.....and yours!. If you follow these guidelines your equipment will give you years of playing pleasure 0V 22 2 MODEL BC250 1 2 4 3 100Hz GAIN ACTIVE 4 PASSIVE 5 7 2 8 1 400Hz 800Hz 1k6Hz COMP HI LO TREBLE 1 2 3 10 3 4 5 4 5 INPUT 4 2 3 4 5 9 VOLUME -0+ 1 2 3 4 8 7 3k2Hz -0 + 1 2 9 0 200Hz BASS 1 6 3 6 5 5 EQUALIZATION 5 POWER BC-250 6 7 3 2 8 1 FULL BRIGHTHORNS 9 0 10 MASTER DYNAMICS DIRECT INJECT 11 10 12 8574 MAXIMUM POWER CONSUMPTION 50/60Hz ~ 500W WARNING TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK DO NOT EXPOSE THIS APPLIANCE TO RAIN OR MOISTURE. 1 SPEAKERS EXTERNAL MIN POWER CAUTION TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK DO NOT REMOVE COVER. Input jack for active or high output instruments such as those with built in preamplifiers. PASSIVE. Input jack for most passive instruments such as those without built in pre-amplifiers. 2 GAIN: Sets the overall gain of the amplifier to suit the instrument being used. Set as high as possible without distortion, then adjust the overall volume to suit. The gain control may need re-adjusting after EQ changes. 3 { 4 5 9 HI: Boosts the high frequencies LO: Boosts the extreme low frequencies, especially useful on 5 string bass guitars. BASS: Sets the Bass frequency response. GRAPHIC EQ: Six band graphic equaliser, use to set the middle frequencies. For best sound set the sliders to gradual curves and avoid extremes. TREBLE: Sets the high frequency response. 6 7 8 COMPRESSOR: Compresses the input signal, giving a punchier sound. Use in conjunction with GAIN control. VOLUME: Sets the overall listening level of the amplifier. { FULL: Engages a speaker control system which controls the tightness of the bass response. BRIGHT: Switches in increased attack and sparkle to the upper frequencies. HORNS: Switches in the HF units fitted to the unit. DIRECT INJECT: XLR socket for direct injection of the amplifier signal to a mixing desk or power amplifier. This provides a low impedance output signal (Balanced output, Pin 1: Ground, Pin2: Hot, Pin 3:cold 3 MODEL BC250 11 10 12 8574 MAXIMUM POWER CONSUMPTION 50/60Hz ~ 500W WARNING TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK DO NOT EXPOSE THIS APPLIANCE TO RAIN OR MOISTURE.
