BCAPL 8-Ball League Scoring and Handicapping The scoring and handicap systems outlined below are approved by the BCAPL and are programmed into LeagueSys for your convenience. LeagueSys is the FREE software program provided by the BCAPL that will run your pool league, compute your team standings (21 different ways), Top Shooter / MVP standings (15 different ways), build your division schedules and playoffs, show complete stats and histories for each player,….and more. There is also an optional “Players Package” which provides a web page that players have access 24/7 to see team and MVP standings, prior match score sheets, player histories, schedules,… and much more. Here, players can also print score sheets for the current weeks matches with the current player averages (ratings) and rosters listed on each score sheet.
8-Ball Scoring with Points Handicap (10 & 17 Point System)
Matches won can be determined by rounds won or total points scored Players get 1 point for each ball pocketed in their group Players get 3 points for the 8-Ball Game winning score can be 10 or 17 (or any other point value that you choose) The “17” point system that gives 1 additional point for each ball the losing player has left on the table. The stronger players (players that break and run out more often) will find their ratings will go up, but this system will have little effect on the lower skill level players as they rarely break and run. If the stronger teams have traditionally won or finished high every season, this system will make them give up more handicap points and will create a more even playing field for all teams Player “averages” are determined by taking the total points scored / games played Player averages are rounded up or down to the nearest whole number unless you select 1 or 2 decimals in your match type settings in LeagueSys Round Points - Team that scores the most points in a round (points plus handicap) is awarded 1 “Round” point Team winning the most “Round” points or the team scoring the most “Total Points” wins the match, depending on the match type setting you select The team with the higher “Team Average” will give handicap points to the other team based on the difference between the two team averages (See screen shot below) Below are screen shots of the “Match Type” settings in LeagueSys for this division along with the calculated score sheet. 8-Ball Scoring with Games on the Wire Handicap (W / L System)
Simple “Games Won / Lost” scoring system. Mark “W” on the score sheet for a win and “L” for a loss (tracking each ball pocketed is not necessary) All players start the first week with a “0” average and after 1 week of play their average is established Player averages are calculated by “Games Won minus Games Lost / Weeks Played” Player averages range from a high of +5 to a low of -5 based on a player playing 5 games per night (examples below) Team Averages determined by adding up all player averages on the starting lineup Match Handicap – The difference between the teams “total team average” determines the “games on the wire” handicap. We recommend that the handicap should be limited to a maximum of 8, based on 25 games played Team scoring the most “Total Points” (Games won plus games on the wire handicap) wins the match This format allows you to combine 8-Ball, 9-Ball, and 10-Ball or any combination of the three games on the same league night For an example of this scoring / handicap system, see “Example 9-Ball Score Sheet” at www.playbca.com under downloads “Average” Calculation based on games W/L after week #1 5-0 5 wins – 0 losses = +5 4-1 4 wins – 1 loss = +3 3-2 3 wins – 2 losses = +1 2-3 2 wins – 3 losses = -1 1-4 1 win – 4 losses = -3 “Average” Calculation based on games W/L after week #2 10-0 10 wins – 0 losses / 2 weeks played = +5 9-1 9 wins – 1 losses / 2 weeks played = +4 8-2 8 wins – 2 losses / 2 weeks played = +3 7-3 7 wins – 3 losses / 2 weeks played = +2 6-4 6 wins – 4 losses / 2 weeks played = +1 5-5 5 wins – 5 losses / 2 weeks played = 0 4-6 4 wins – 6 losses / 2 weeks played = -1 3-7 3 wins – 7 losses / 2 weeks played = -2 2-8 2 wins – 8 losses / 2 weeks played = -3 1-9 1 win – 9 losses / 2 weeks played = -4 0-10 0 wins – 10 losses /2 weeks play = -5

BCAPL 9-Ball & 10-Ball League Scoring and Handicapping 9-Ball & 10-Ball Scoring with Handicap (10 Point System)
Matches won can be determined by rounds won or total points scored Winning player get 10 points (or whatever value you assign) for making the game winning ball Losing player gets one (1) point for each ball legally pocketed Neither player gets credit for “Dead” balls which are balls illegally pocketed Player “Averages” are determined by taking the Total Points Scored / Games played Player Averages are rounded up or down to the nearest whole number unless you select 1 or 2 decimal in your match type settings in LeagueSys Round Points - Team that scores the most points in a round (points scored plus handicap) is awarded 1 “Round” point Team winning the most “Round” points or the team scoring the most “Total Points” wins the match depending on the match type setting you select The team with the higher “Team Average” will give the lower team the number of points difference between the 2 teams averages in each round. For example, Team A has player averages of 7, 9, 6, 5, 8 = 35 Team B has player averages of 8, 4, 5, 6, 7 = 30 Team A would give Team B 5 points per round (a total of 25 for the match) This could change each round if substitute players are brought in during the match. This scoring system requires a score sheet with 9 boxes for each game for the tracking of each ball. These score sheets are available on www.playbca.com under downloads Circle each ball on the score sheet that is legally pocketed for the appropriate player and put an “X” for all illegally pocketed or “dead balls” This format allows you to combine 9-Ball and 10-Ball on the same league night
8-Ball, 9-Ball, & 10-Ball Scoring with Games on the Wire Handicap (W / L System)
Simple “Games Won / Lost” scoring system Mark “W” on the score sheet for a win and “L” for a loss (tracking each ball pocketed is not necessary) All players start the first week with a “0” average and after 1 week of play their average is established Player averages calculated by “Games Won minus Games Lost / Weeks Played” (see chart on page # 4) Player averages range from a high of +5 to a low of -5 based on a player playing 5 games per night Team Averages determined by adding up all player averages on the starting lineup Match Handicap – The difference between the teams “total team average” determines the “games on the wire” handicap. This handicap should be limited to a maximum of 6-8, based on 25 games played Use 100% handicap or a partial handicap based on percentage. Team scoring the most “Total Points” (Games won plus games on the wire handicap) wins the match This format allows you to combine 8-Ball, 9-Ball, and 10-Ball or any combination of the three games on the same league night For an example of this handicap system, see “Example 9-Ball Score Sheet” at www.playbca.com under downloads

Scotch Doubles 8-Ball Scoring with Handicap (10 or 17 Point System)
Teams get 1 point for each ball pocketed in their group Teams get 3 points for the 8-Ball Game winning score can be 10 or 17 (or any other point value that you choose) The “17” point system that gives 1 additional point for each ball the losing team has left on the table. Team “Averages” are determined by taking the total points scored divided by games played Team Averages are rounded up or down to the nearest whole number (unless you select 1 or 2 decimals in your match type settings in LeagueSys) Team scoring the most “Total Points” (points plus handicap) wins the match The team with the higher “Team Average” will give the lower team average the difference between the two teams averages in each round (each game constitutes a round). For example, if Team Melinda/Bill has an average of 14 (add both player’s averages together) and Team Rebecca/Sean has an average of 12 then Melinda/Bill will spot or give Rebecca/Sean 2 points for each game played. So, if they are playing 7 games the handicap will be a total of 14 points (2 points x 7 games = 14). See scotch doubles example score sheet on www.playbca.com under downloads When entering game scores into LeagueSys, To set up a 7 game format in LeagueSys, set your “Match Type Settings” for a “2 x 7 x 1” format. (see match type settings on page below) Match Players Per Team: 2 Rounds Per Match: 7 Number of Games: 1 When entering the scores into LeagueSys, list each player on the team on a separate name slot, then rotate game scores between the two players. To determine the “team average” add both individual player averages together. This is the best way to get all players “games played” toward nationals eligibility.
Game Rules
Flip for the first break Alternate breaks The same player on a team may break whenever the team’s turn arises Players alternate shots (Not each turn) Partners may converse quietly (in a non-distracting manner) during a game when it is not their turn to shoot. However, when their opponent’s inning at the table ends and the balls stop rolling, there is no talking or coaching of any kind allowed by the incoming team. If a team switches their rotation during a game, it is a foul and the following procedure applies: if the opposing team calls the foul immediately after the first player on the offending team has shot out of order, the opposing team receives cue-ball-in-hand anywhere on the table. If the foul is not noticed until the second player on the team has shot, a foul may not be charged, and the new sequence must continue until the conclusion of the game. -9-
