TechniSat HDFV Freeview HD Digital Receiver Quick Start Guide 1 Contents List The following items should be in your HDFV Freeview HD receiver box: > HDFV > Remote control and batteries > HDMI lead > Mains adaptor > Owner’s Manual > Quick Start Guide 2 Setup – Connection of the Receiver a. Mains adaptor b. Connection between the antenna and the aerial input of the DVB receiver. b c c. HDMI connection between the receiver and the TV. d d. Scart connection between the DVB receiver and the television set. e. Scart connection from a VCR to the Scart socket of the DVB receiver. a e f f. Connection between the audio outputs and a HiFi or surround sound system. VCR 2 2.1 Connection (a) Connect all the ancillary cables before connecting the HDFV to the mains supply. > After you have made all connections in accordance with the following information, connect the receiver to a mains socket using the enclosed power adaptor. 2.2 Antenna Connection (b) > Connect the aerial input of the receiver using a suitable coaxial cable to your external antenna. 2.3 Connection to a TV (c & d) > Connect the receiver’s HDMI output to the TV HDMI input using the supplied HDMI cable. Select the HDMI source on the TV using the TV remote control. Alternatively: > Use a SCART cable to connect the receiver SCART socket with the television SCART socket. If your television is appropriately equipped, it will automatically switch to the correct AV source when the receiver is switched on. 2.4 Connection to a Video cassette recorder (VCR) or DVD Recorder (d) > With the TV connected to the receiver with the HDMI cable, the SCART socket can be used to connect to a VCR or DVD recorder. The VCR or DVD recorder can then be connected to the TV using another SCART cable for playing back recordings. 2.5 Audio connection to a Hi-Fi or Surround Sound system (e) > Connect either the analogue or digital audio output of the receiver to the appropriate input on a Hi-Fi or Surround Sound system. 3 3 Power Up 1. Connect the mains adaptor to a mains socket. 2. The unit will now be powered and in standby. 3. Power on by pressing the red standby key on the remote control or the standby button on the front of the freesat receiver (identified by a red surround). 4. The power button surround will now illuminate green to indicate that it is operational. 4 Initial installation When powering on the HDFV for the first time an automatic installation process will start. 4 2.1 Welcome and start-up Press the OK key on the remote control to begin the installation 2.2 AV Output Using the arrow keys, select the AV output that you have connected to the TV, then press OK to continue. The receiver defaults to SCART mode and when HDMI mode is selected, the receiver tests the connection. When it reports back that the test was successful, the settings must then be accepted by pressing the OK key. 5 2.3. Screen format The Screen format step allows you to set your TV screen format (aspect ratio) to either normal 4:3 or 16:9 widescreen format. Press OK to continue. 2.4. Antenna configuration For a standard installation, accept the default antenna configuration and press OK to start the channel search. 2.5 Channel search When all the channels have been found press the OK key to finish the installation. 2.6 Standby It is important to ensure that the HDFV is placed in standby when not in use as during this time the unit checks for any available software updates. If an update is available you will be informed when the unit comes out of standby. 6 5 Programme Information Banner The programme information banner is displayed when you change a channel or when you press the ‘i’ key while viewing a tv channel. > Press the ‘i’ key while watching a tv channel to see extended information about the current programme 6 Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) The EPG shows an 8 day programme schedule for all channels and provides various ways to view this information. > Press the ‘guide’ key on the remote control to display the EPG in the default Grid view. > Use the up/down arrow keys and the OK key to move around the schedule. Press the ‘i’ key for information on the selected programme. Press the red key to set timers for programmes. > Press the blue key to show a menu to change how you view the guide. > Refer to the User Guide for further details of the EPG features. 7 7 Navigator The Navigator gives you a quick way of viewing and selecting new channels. > Press the OK key to view the Navigator and list of channels. > Use up/down arrow keys to highlight a channel and press OK to switch to the selected channel. > Refer to the Owner’s manual for full details of the Navigator 8 Retuning the receiver You may need to retune the receiver at some point if new channels become available or if you move to a new transmitter region. To ensure you find all available channels follow the steps below: > Press the ‘menu’ key to display the main menu options. > Use up/down arrows and the OK key to select ‘Channel search’ and then ‘Automatic search’. > Ensure ‘All Channels’ is selected and then select ‘Start search’.
