BEST WESTERN® Properties Fitness Room not required, however if present in the hotel should meet Member Guidelines. SIZE Properties with 1 – 50 guest rooms, a minimum of 200 sq ft is required. Properties with 51 – 200 guest rooms, a minimum of 275 sq ft. is required Properties with 201+ guest rooms, a minimum of 350 sq ft. is required. A minimum of three (3) pieces of exercise equipment for properties with 1-50 guest rooms. Three (3) required pieces must include the following: One (1) treadmill, one (1) upright or recumbent cycle, and one (1) additional piece. A minimum of four (4) pieces of equipment for properties with 51-200 guest rooms. Four (4) required pieces must include the following: One (1) treadmill, one (1) upright or recumbent cycle, one (1) elliptical cross trainer or stair climber and a two (2) strength station gym or two (2) independent strength pieces. A minimum of six pieces of equipment for properties with 201+ guest rooms. Six (6) required pieces must include the following: Two (2) treadmills, two (2) upright or recumbent cycles, one (1) elliptical cross trainer or stair climber and a 2 (two) station gym or two (2) independent strength pieces. Criteria Minimum Light Commercial Grade Commercial/Light Commercial strength for 50 rooms and under: If strength station is opted for over a third piece of cardio then the Single Stack gym must be capable of performing the following exercises: Lat / Triceps Pulldown, Low Row / Arm Curl, . ▪ Operating instructions per manufacturer must be available in a convenient location in plain view in the exercise room. Commercial/Light Commercial strength for 51 rooms and above: If a multi-gym is selected it must meet the following criteria: 2- 210 lb. solid steel weight stacks ▪ 2 stations ▪ 12 gauge steel tubing

Submit finish selections and specifications to the Best Western Design Department for approval prior to purchase and installation. Sufficient space must be provided for all equipment and amenities. Best Western recommends verifying with equipment manufacturer or requesting a floor plan to ensure that all equipment will fit properly. ENCLOSURE New Construction: A minimum of 50 STC, if the room is adjacent to a guest room(s) or areas adjoining guest room(s) If fitness room is located adjacent to the pool area, ensure that property ventilation and dehumidification exists to avoid deterioration of equipment from moisture. DESIGN GUIDELINES: Ceiling Height •New construction: A minimum of 9’-0”. Ceiling

Walls

Doors
•All exterior doors exposed to weather shall be metal. • All doors shall conform to prevailing code and law. • Interior doors may be solid wood paneled, solid core flush panel or metal. • The main entry door to have a minimum of half glass or view window
Temperature
The room must have a separate thermostat located in the room. The recommended temperature in the room is between 68 – 72 degrees Fahrenheit
Mirror
One full wall, floor to ceiling.
Accessories
A wall mounted clock.
Telephone
One house phone must be provided in the fitness room that rings directly to the hotel operator.
Signage
•A professionally produced sign indicating the hours of operation posted outside of the room. • The sign must be consistent with other signs throughout the property and with interior finishes. • All interior signs that display the Best Western name, logo, trademark, slogan, etc., must be reviewed and approved by Best Western Brand Identity Administration or purchased from an endorsed supplier prior to installation. 3|Page
• Hand lettered, pinned up or taped notices are not acceptable. Towel
•Towel/robe hooks on the wall, at a height of 6’. • Provide 5 towels per every 50 rooms. The towels must be available either in the facility or at the front desk. • Provide a towel hamper of high quality material for dirty towels in fitness area. The hamper should either have lid or be placed inside a cabinet located in fitness area.
Water
Provide a drinking fountain, water cooler, or free bottled water within the facility.
Lighting
A minimum of 30 foot-candles or local or state code Recessed fluorescent fixtures with white acrylic diffusers – only 2’ x 2’ fixtures or recess incandescent fixtures OR Surface mount fixtures with a decorative housing

BEST WESTERN PREMIER® Properties Provide a compliant Fitness Center SIZE 450 sq. ft. minimum for up to 150 rooms; 80 sq. ft. minimum for each piece of equipment. Add 80 sq.ft. of floor space for each additional 50 rooms. Add one (1) piece of equipment for each additional 50 rooms.

Television - Provide a minimum of two (2) 42” or larger (diagonal measure) flat panel LCD or plasma televisions. Televisions to be mounted high on wall or from ceiling with commercial quality television bracket unless personal viewing screens are provided on each piece of cardio equipment.
