In order to participate, athletic packets, including physicals, must be turned in by Monday, August 24, 2015. 2. Dress out in required athletic clothing and work out every day. Not participating or dressing out will result in a ten-point deduction per incident. Both are mandatory as we expect 100% from our athletes. 3. BE ON TIME every day. 4. 7th PRACTICE TIMES ~ 7:00 a.m. – 8:50 a.m. 5. 8th PRACTICE TIMES ~ beginning during 8th period and ending at 4:45 p.m. 6. Practices will begin and end on time. Please make necessary arrangements to ensure your child is dropped off or picked up in a timely manner. Each athlete should be picked up within 15 minutes after practices or games. B. ATHLETIC DRESS CODE 1. PRACTICE GEAR: Navy shirt, navy shorts (shirts tucked), kneepads, non-marking tennis shoes (laced and tied). Athletes must wear only assigned apparel while being responsible for issued apparel each day. Any and all issued apparel will be turned in at the end of the year. The parent will reimburse the cost for lost or damaged apparel. If one part of a set is lost/damaged, student is responsible for replacement of the entire set. 2. JEWELRY: No jewelry is allowed during practices or during competitions. No piercings are allowed during the year (including off-season). Athletes must remove earrings during their athletic period, NO EXCEPTIONS. Wearing tape over earrings is unacceptable as well. Jewelry also includes any type of bracelets (hair ties, rubber bands) worn on the arm, ankle bracelets, rings, necklaces, etc. 3. HAIR: Hair must be suitable for athletic competition. All hair must be pulled back into a ponytail. Any bangs must be held back using soft headbands. (No bobby pins, hair clamps, barrettes, etc.) 2 C. GRADES/ELIGIBILITY 1. Athletes must pass each of their classes the first six weeks or they will be ineligible to participate in U.I.L. sponsored sports beginning the first day of the eighth week of school. They, then, must pass all classes to be eligible for participation the second week of the second 8 weeks. However, players may continue to practice with the team before and after school but may not participate in any games. Participation includes sitting on the bench, riding with the team or dressing in uniform. Please refer to and be familiar with the Eligibility Calendar on the BMMS Girls’ Athletic webpage. 2. Poor conduct in classes, detentions, ISS, OSS or other behavioral problems will not be tolerated. Should these situations occur, they will be dealt with on an individual basis. 3. If an athlete is in ISS on the day of a competition, she will not be able to participate in that particular game. D. TEAMS 1. BMMS will have an A, B, C and Intramural team for volleyball and basketball. 2. Intramural teams will practice during the period and will compete in a Round Robin tournament on a date TBD. E. QUITTING 1. Once a sport has started, athletes will have one week to decide if they want to quit for the entire season. If an athlete quits after the one-week deadline, she should do so by speaking with the Head Coach of the sport, in person, having their equipment clean and ready to turn in. Once an athlete quits, they will not be allowed back on the team during that sport in season. 2. If the athlete continues to dress out and participate in off-season, they will receive a grade of 75 for the six weeks. We want our athletes to take responsibility for their decisions. Building character is very important and we will stress the importance of finishing what is started. With parental assistance, we can avoid any misunderstandings and/or conflict in regards to what is expected. F. GAME SCHEDULES 1. Schedules for each sport can be found on the BMMS Girls Athletics webpage, and on www.rankonesport.com. Hard copies of the schedules will also be issued to each athlete before season begins. 3 G. ILLNESS/INJURY NOTES 1. If an athlete must miss practice or a game due to illness or other family emergency, the parent should call the coaches’ office at (940) 369-1564 and ask to speak with the athlete’s coach. If the coach is unavailable, please leave a message. We appreciate knowing if a player will not participate in a game beforehand to allow for adjustments. Should a player miss a practice before a game, the player may not start the next game. 2. Although every precaution is taken to make sure athletes are safe, each player and parent must be aware that risk of injury exists. Any injury should be reported immediately to the coaching staff. Failure to report immediately may result in loss of supplemental insurance coverage by the school. Horseplay is not permitted at any time. 3. NOTES: Athletes are expected to work out daily. However, we understand illnesses and injuries do occur. In such cases, parent notes are required and are good for two days only. We are asking you, as parents to please be sure your daughter is taken to a doctor if ill or injured and needs to be out more than two days. This rule will be enforced to minimize the amount of unverified excuses. In addition, any athlete who cannot workout will be required to attend practice. Athletes are allowed three (3) parent notes per semester. *Missed practices must be made up before being allowed to participate in an upcoming game. H. BEHAVIOR 1. LOCKER ROOM BEHAVIOR a. Absolutely no horseplay. b. All equipment should be in its proper place each day. c. There will be consequences for any trash, books or clothing left on the locker room floor. d. Taking pictures in the locker room will not be tolerated. Our locker room is a NO PHONE ZONE! 2. WEIGHT ROOM a. Absolutely no horseplay. b. Only those athletes lifting are permitted inside the weight room with a coach. c. All weights should be racked at the end of each lifting session. 3. OUTSIDE OF ATHLETICS a. All athletes are representatives of BMMS at all times. Always set examples of TITAN pride on and off the court/field. b. The use of alcohol, smoking cigarettes of any kind or use of any illegal drug is not permitted. Breaking these rules is grounds for dismissal from the athletic program. 4 4. BUS BEHAVIOR a. Talking must be kept at a normal level. No standing or moving about the bus is allowed, especially when the bus is in motion. The bus must be left clean. b.
