Woodstock Christian School Parent Link Feb 13, 2017 Libraries - one of my favourite topics to discuss! Libraries were once somber quiet places where books were warehoused and librarians kept them in order. Have you ever thought of how a library is different today than when you were a child? Have you ever wondered what the “modern” library of the future may look like? At the recent Ontario Library Association conference, attendees were shown what a futuristic library might look like and the role it has for its community. I could hardly imagine some scenarios that were presented of what you could do at your local library in fifty years! Some existing libraries already bring more accessible use of technology to the next level with their “Maker Spaces” and the use of 3-D printers. Here the library’s role is not only to have the information about something but also equipment to produce it and share it! But the one common thread which runs through the past library, the present library and the future library is the availability of knowledge and understanding and also the need for space for community. There is a lot of “community” being shared at the WCS Library as well. I have said this before but I am always so grateful that the WCS board has always prioritized budgeting to develop the best possible library for its students with the funds available. And I am privileged to work in it!

Prayer Corner Condolences and prayers go out to Marsha & Glen Sikma family with the loss of their great/grandfather Klaas Visbeek. Mr. Visbeek was the last of the original founding members of John Knox Christian School to pass on to glory. We thank God for the dedicated hard-working pioneers who started this school. We pray for ongoing healing for students and families in our school that are experiencing the nasty colds and flu that are circulating now. For those with chronic disease, cancer, and other conditions we pray for daily strength and hope. As we celebrate Staff Appreciation Week please be intentional about remembering our staff members in your prayers!
Prayer Group meets on Wednesday morning at 8:30am. Please join us in Mrs. Streutker’s office as we pray for needs and concerns at WCS.
Announcements: School Health We are experiencing a serious outbreak of flu and colds at WCS. I encourage you to keep your feverish and ill children at home so as not to keep this cycle of illness going. It is best for children to return to school when they are feeling better. Oxford County Health and Emergency Services recommends keeping students home for at least 24 hours following sickness and fever to ensure that they are not infectious and are well enough to participate in classroom activities. Thank you for your help in keeping our students and staff well!
Skating Our entire school will be going skating on Thursday, February 16th and you are invited to join us! For insurance purposes, there are additional guidelines for 'on ice' participation that we must honour. Everyone - meaning all students and all adults - must wear helmets (bicycle, hockey, other), gloves/mittens and skates while on the ice. Boots, strollers, helmetless heads, and gloveless hands will not be permitted on the ice. Our buses will transport the students. The first group of students -Kindergarten to grade 3 - will skate from 12:15pm - 1:15pm. The second group of students - grades 4 through 8 - will skate from 1:15pm to 2:15pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
Pancake Breakfast Students, wear your pajamas and bring your appetite and your favourite 'stuffy' to our annual pancake breakfast on Thursday February 23rd. The cost is $5 per person or $20 per family. Donations will be gladly received for the work of Edu-Deo. (If you have food allergies, we can make a special batch of pancakes for you - let us know!).

Check out the prizes for the various levels of funds you raise!
