WARNING The squeezing screw is a heavy object. Take care when removing the juicing screw. Be careful not to drop the juicing screw.
TIPS FOR GREAT JUICES PURCHASING AND STORAGE OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES
PREPARATION OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES FOR JUICING
• Always wash fruit and vegetables before juicing. • Always use fresh fruit and vegetables for juicing. • To save money and obtain fresher produce, purchase fruit or vegetables that are in season. • Keep your fruit and vegetables ready for juicing by washing them before storing. • Most fruits and hardier type vegetables can be stored at room temperature. The more delicate and perishable items such as berries, leafy greens, celery, cucumbers and herbs should be stored in the refrigerator until required.
• If using fruits with hard or inedible skins such as mangoes, citrus, melons and pineapples, always peel before juicing. • Some vegetables, such as cucumbers, can be processed unpeeled depending on the softness of the skin and the juicing requirements. • All fruits with large pits, hard seeds or stones such as nectarines, peaches, mangoes, apricots, plums and cherries must be pitted before juicing. • Ensure vegetables such as beetroots, carrots etc. have all soil removed, are washed well and trimmed of leaves before juicing. • Citrus fruits can be juiced in the juicer but remove the skin and excess pith before juicing. • A small amount of lemon juice can be added to apple juice to reduce discolouration.
OPERATING YOUR STOLLAR JUICE PRESSO™ BJP500
OPERATING your Stollar Juice Presso™ BJP500 1. Wash and prepare your selection of fruit and/or vegetables: fruits with hard or inedible skins such as citrus fruit and melons should be peeled before juicing. Pineapple can be juiced with or without the rind removed. Fruits with pits, hard seeds or stones such as nectarines, peaches, mangoes, apricots, plums and cherries must be pitted before juicing. 2. Ensure the juice extractor is correctly assembled with the juice jug and pulp container under the spouts. 3. Cut fruit and vegetables into pieces that will fit down the feed chute. As a guide, apples should be cut in to quarters. 4. Push the “On” button. 5. With the motor running gently guide food down the feed chute. To extract the maximum amount of juice, always push the food pusher down slowly.Do not exert excess pressure, the fruit or vegetable should almost be pulled down by the screw.
NOTE • If the fruit or vegetables become jammed in the screw and the juicer stops operating, press the “Off” button. Ensure that the juicer comes to a complete stop. Press the “Rev” button and hold it until the fruit or vegetables become dislodged. • The screw will move in reverse and release the food that is caught in the screw. Once the food is released, press the ON button and start juicing again.
IMPORTANT Do not load the feed chute with food until the motor is running.
6. As the fruits and vegetables are processed, juice will flow into the juice jug and the separated pulp will accumulate in the pulp container.
WARNING Do not operate juicer longer than 20 seconds before inserting ingredients. 7. Immediately after use, slowly pour a glass of water down the feed chute. Ensure that there is a separate jug under the spout as the water will pour directly into the juice jug that you juiced into. This has a cleaning aspect and will help when cleaning the strainer.
NOTE If you are making different fruit juices you can pour a glass of water (about 200 ml) in between the different juices to rinse any left over flavours. It is not always necessary to completely clean the juicer in between making multiple juices.
Overload protection This protection device safeguards against overloading the motor with excessive loads. If overloading occurs, the motor will stop. The overload protection will automatically de-activate the motor. When this occurs, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and allow the appliance to cool for at least 1 hour. Then reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet. Then recommence normal use.
CARE & CLEANING
CARE & CLEANING Stollar Juice Presso™ BJP500 Always ensure that the juicer is turned off and the power cord is unplugged from the power outlet before cleaning, disassembling or assembling and storing the appliance. 1. Immediately after each use, use the provided nylon brush to thoroughly clean the fine mesh holes of the strainer. a) Brush the inside of the strainer under running water, holding it up towards the light to ensure the fine mesh holes are not blocked. b) If the mesh holes are blocked, soak the strainer in hot water with 10% lemon juice to loosen the blocked holes.
TIP • Do not keep the juicer without cleaning after use. Clean it before storage. • If the squeezing screw cannot be cleaned immediately after use, soak it in hot soapy water immediately after juicing is complete. If pulp is left to dry on the squeezing screw, it may clog the fine mesh holes, thereby lessening the effectiveness of the juicer. Do not soak the squeezing screw in bleach. 3. Wash the hopper, the drum, the squeezing screw, pulp container and juicing jug in warm soapy water with the small nylon brush provided or a soft cloth. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
IMPORTANT Do not place any part of the juicer in the dishwasher.
IMPORTANT Do not use heating appliances for drying any part of the juicer.
2. Removing the rubber pad will allow you to clean the interior of the strainer more thoroughly. a) Pull out the rubber pad gently. b) Clean the interior of the strainer under running water. c) Insert the rubber pad back in its place.
4. Wipe the motor base with a soft damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Do not rinse the motor base under running water. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or cleaners when cleaning the motor base as these may scratch the surface. Wipe any excess food particles from the power cord.
WARNING Do not use detergents that contain organic solvents (solvent, thinner, etc.), bleach, chlorine, benzene or abrasives.
TROUBLESHOOTING
TROUBLESHOOTING Stollar Juice Presso™ BJP500 POSSIBLE PROBLEM
EASY SOLUTION
Juicer will not work or suddenly turns off during juicing
Check that the power plug is securely inserted into wall outlet. Insert the power plug into an independent outlet. Insert the power plug into a different outlet. Ensure the juicer is assembled correctly. Do not use the product longer than 20 minutes! The overload protection may have automatically deactivated the motor. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and allow the appliance to cool for at least 1 hour. Insufficient cooling time may result in the motor de-activating again. After sufficient cooling time, reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and recommence normal use.
Motor appears to stall when juicing
Either too much food is being processed at one time or the pieces are not small enough. Try trimming food, cutting food into smaller pieces of even size and/or processing a smaller amount per batch. Ensure the motor is running before loading the feed chute with food. Also try the reversing method to unstuck the screw. Hard fruits and vegetables will put excess strain onto the motor.
Pulp too wet and reduced extracted juice
Check if the rubber pad inside the strainer is assembled back in place (refer to p. 8). Check if the silicon pad underneath the juicing drum is assembled correctly (refer to p. 5). Stop the juicing process and remove the power cord from the wall outlet. Remove the squeezing screw. Use the nylon brush provided to thoroughly clean the fine mesh holes of the strainer. Brush the inside of the squeezing screw under running water, holding it up towards a light to ensure the fine mesh holes are not blocked (refer to p. 8). If the holes are blocked, soak the squeezing screw in hot water with 10% lemon juice to loosen the blocked holes. Cleaning the squeezing screw will remove excess fibre build up (from juicing the fruit or vegetables) which could be inhibiting the juice flow.
The hopper is stuck and too hard to open
Press the “Rev” button and turn the hopper counter-clockwise to the open position.
