BLU-GM3 Bluetooth Audio Streaming Installation Guide for select 1996-09 GM Created May 5, 2016 Revised May 7, 2016 3. Connect the factory 12-pin plug removed in step 2 to the 12- Introduction: way connector on the adapter harness (See Fig. 3) Many GM owners will be pleased to know that they can upgrade the audio system to support Bluetooth Audio Streaming without changing the Radio. The BLU-GM3 connects to the 1212-way port on select 20002000-09 Radios. Radios. External CD Changer** Changer** or XM (if present) must be disconnected. A Bluetooth wireless connection means no wires, clutter or complicated setup. All the user has to do is install the adapter (to the radio), pair their Smartphone or Tablet and enjoy their GPS, Music Apps etc. on the car system. See Frequently Asked question at the end of this guide for details. Fig. 3 Adapter harness Note: factory 12-pin plug may not be present. In that case connect the male 12-pin plug from adapter harness to the Radio. The connector on the other end remains vacant. Installation: 4. Connect the 12-way plug (See.. Fig. 1) 1 on the other end of 1. Remove GM Radio from dashboard to gain access to the connectors. (Vehicle specific radio removal instruction are not part of this guide, but available upon request) 2. Once radio has been removed, disconnect the factory 12-way plug from the Radio (See Fig. 1 & 2) 2 the adapter harness to the 12-way connector on Radio 5. Connect the yellow wire on the adapter harness to a +12V supply and black wire to ground. 6. Dip switches 3 & 8 must be set to “ON” (See Fig. 5) 5 or consult user manual included with adapter. 8. Set Dip switches (See Fig. 5) 5 3 & 8 to “ON” (or in the down position) Test Operation: Operation: 1. Turn the Radio “ON” 2. Press the “TAPE/AUX” CD/AUX” “TAPE/AUX or “CD/AUX CD/AUX button on radio 3. Launch Smartphone or tablet audio streaming application. Fig. 5 dip-switches 9. Secure Module and proceed to next section. Pairing: The pairing process varies from Phone to Phone but the basic steps are the same. This process is done upon initial install and will not have to be repeated 1. Turn Ignition and Radio “ON” 2. On A2DP device: go to Settings, Wireless & Networks, Bluetooth Settings 3. Select Bluetooth and turn on. 4. Then select Bluetooth settings 5. Tap Scan fo forr devices. 6. Wait for the Bluetooth device name to appear and select it. (See below) Blue LED inside adapter will glow steady (paired) 4. Use the radio volume control button to set the playback level. Warning! Playlist and Track selection is *NOT* possible from the Radio. Use audio device built-in controls to access and control the audio files. 5. If correct operation is confirmed go ahead and reinstall the Radio. Frequently asked questions 1. Does the BluBlu-GM3 work in vehicles with a 66- CD Changer radio (the changer is builtbuilt -into radio) YES; The Blu-GM3 works on the 6-CD Changer radio. (Radio must have a “TAPE/AUX” or “CD/AUX” button on faceplate 2. Does this work in Bose systems YES; YES works in Bose and Non-Bose applications 3. I have both an external CD Changer and XM, do I need to disconnect anything for the BluBlu-G M3 to work YES; the Blu-GM3 adapter does not retain XM or external CD Changer. These options must be disconnected for this adapter to work. Purchase the Blu-GM3 to retain XM or CD Changer. 4. If in the future I decide to remove the BluBlu-GM3 GM3, will I have any troubles with the wiring? wiring? NO; NO; the Blu--GM3 plug-n-play harness does not interfere with the factory wiring integrity and once disconnected, the Slave unit will work just as it did prior. 5. Can I use the BluBlu-GM3 GM3 for Bluetooth hands free calling? NO; the Blu-GM3 does not support Hands-Fee Calling but does support wireless Audio Streaming.
