BR8401 40Gb/s DPSK Modulator The BR8401 is a high bandwidth polymer modulator designed for 40G long-haul and ultralong-haul optical transponders. It can be used for NRZ, ODB, and DPSK modulation format. The BR8401 is a compact solution targeted for Small Form Factor (SFF) 300 pin transponders. The BR8401 includes essential features such as high temperature operation and reliability, high frequency GPPO connectors, excellent optical performance, electrical signals accessible from one side, and integrated photodiode monitor.

Operational Setup
Required Biasing Sequence 1. Connect pins 4 & 5 to current source. 2. Connect pins 6 & 7 to PD monitoring or automatic bias control. 3. Apply single end RF to Pin 2. 4. For NRZ, bias the modulator at Quadrature. For DPSK, bias the modulator at Null.

1. To avoid irreversible damage, do not exceed Bias Current Absolute Maximum Rating of 120mA during operation. 2. RF inputs require AC coupling, as DC voltage will not provide steady state response.
