Triggered by new rules and regulations, the international brass industry is currently facing major changes. Brasses are used in a wide range of applications such as plumbing fixtures, fittings and valves, bearings, radiators, decorative architectural and many more. Brasses are traditionally recognized for their excellent castability and machinability as well as a good combination of strength and corrosion resistance together with attractive finishes. Moreover, the recycling of brass is excellent and well developed. However, new regulations, especially regarding permissible lead contents in alloys, are forcing huge changes right now in the brass industry, with new alloys and processing methods tending to complement and replace well proven techniques. Related to these issues, extensive research and development work is being carried out around the world at present. However, we are lacking today an obvious forum where researchers and companies active within the field of brass R&D can meet. Brass Alloys 2016 aims to fill this gap by creating an international arena for presentations and information exchange, aiming to boost and facilitate on-going and future research work in the field of brass materials and processing. Welcome to Stockholm! Prof. Bevis Hutchinson (Conference Chair)
