Mac OS X Dial-up Instructions How to connect to the Internet via PPP (Dial-Up Access) using a Modem: You may use the steps in this document to connect to the Internet using the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), which is also known as “dial-up” access. A modem is required. If your computer does not have a built-in modem, then select your external modem in Step 4. Follow these steps to connect: 1. Gather this information from your original Brightnet confirmation letter: • Username and Password • Dial-up number (access number) 2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu. 3. Choose Network from the View Menu. 4. Choose Internal Modem from the Show pop-up menu (the “Configure” pop-up menu prior to Mac OS X 10.1). 5. Click the PPP Tab. 6. Type the information you gathered in Step 1 into the corresponding fields. Your username goes in the Account Name field. If you want the other users of this computer to use the same connection method, select the checkbox for “Save Password.” 7. Click the TCP/IP tab. 8. Choose PPP from the Configure pop-up menu. 9. Type the following DNS addresses: 66.170.44.10 for the primary and 66.170.44.11 for the secondary. 10. Click Apply Now. 11. Open Internet Connect, located in the Applications folder. 12. Be sure the Configuration pop-up menu is set to your modem. 13. Click the Connect button. 14. Open a Web Browser or other TCP/IP application to verify your connection to the Internet. Note: You can set up Mac OS X to automatically dial-up when opening an Internet application. Alternatively, you may connect only when you want to, as you did in Steps 11 to 13 above.
