Engine Overview The Brother® HL-2040 series printers were released in January of 2005 targeted towards small office and home office users. Priced very reasonably at under $150, the HL-2040 features a print speed of 20 pages per minute and a first page out of less than ten seconds. The upgrade HL-2070, which uses the same toner and drum cartridge skus, is network ready, has built in Ethernet and can be configured for wireless printing. Like many other Brother® systems, the HL-2040 uses separate toner and drum units that snap together but are sold as separate OEM SKUs. Both ship with 1.5k starter cartridge and use TN-350 toner cartridge, which is rated for 2.5k pages and DR-350 drum unit rated for 12k pages. Equivalent models include the HL-2030 and 2070, MFC 7220, 7420 and 7820, Digital Copier 7020 and Intellifax 2820.

Static Control® now offers a flag gear for use with the Brother® HL2040 series toner cartridges (TN-350). Some OEM cartridges have flag gears damaged. The printer displays a “toner life end” message if no flag gear is detected. A flag gear must be reset on all spent TN-350 cartridges in order for the printer to function properly once the cartridge has been recharged and re-installed in the printer B2040FGR-10
