BSC3123i RS-232 to RS-422/485 Converter Features • Wide range of input voltage and power protection • Polarity guard that prevents damage from reverse power connection and over voltage protection • Rugged metal casing with better mechanical and EMI protection • Clear LED indications of power status, RS-232 data signal status (TX/RX) and operation modes (RS-422/485 4W or RS-485 2W) • Clear indications of all signals on the casing allow easy and proper connection • Push high/pull low resistors for RS-422/485 • Plug-in screw terminal blocks for easy RS-422/485 and power supply wiring • DIP switch settings for RS-485 2-wire with ERADC auto mode, RS-422/485 4-wire mode • DIP switch setting for internal terminal resistors • 15KV ESD surge protection • Provides CMR‐10KV/µs optical isolation between the two RS-422/485 ports and 1KV/µs isolation between the DC power and both RS-422/485 ports • RS-232 to RS-422 conversion with RTS/CTS support • External power supply • Power supply surge protection (1500w(10/100us)) • RS-485 port surge protection (IPP=40A/300W(8/20us)) • 35mm DIN rail installation kit • FCC, CE, RoHS approved Side View Back View Application 1 2 Company Website www.bluskyelectronics.com O N Most industrial computer systems come with standard RS-232 serial ports. Though widely accepted, RS-232 has limited transmission speed, range, and networking capabilities. The RS-422 and RS-485 standards overcome those limitations by using differential voltage lines for data and control signals. The BSC3123i converter lets you to take advantage of RS-422 and RS-485 on systems originally equipped with RS-232. They transparently convert RS-232 signals to RS-422 or RS-485 signals. You do not need to change your PC's hardware or your software. The BSC3123i lets you easily build an industrial grade, long distance communication system with standard PC hardware. They extend the communication distance by 1.2km (4kft) or increase the maximum number of connected nodes by 32. The BSC3123i also provides the optical isolation for system protection.
