Couverture Cove rage As no data are available for cheques charged to accounts in bank branches outside the 50 cities, the coverage of the "cheques cashed" series is incomplete. The Canadian Rankers' Association collected For January 1935, the grand total of all cheques cashed at branch banks throughout Canada, thus obtaining the first comprehensive measure of the Full value of Canadian cheque transactions. The results showed that the cheques cashed in the 32 cities included at that time represented 89% of the Canadian total. Three new cities were added between the years 1941 and 1950.

-2Again in January 1953, the Canadian Bankers' Association collected the total of all cheques cashed in Canada during that month. Debits in the 35 cities for which payments were recorded, accounted for only 85% of the all-Canada total. To improve the series, the Canadian Bankers' Association expanded its coverage by 17 additional cities, as from January 1953.
