November 2013  BURRTEC NEWS   Waste and Recycling Newsletter Sponsored by the City of Rancho Cucamonga and Burrtec Waste Industries Windy Day Advisory The season for the Santa Ana Winds is here. This weather condition causes problems with the collection of trash and recyclables. Containers frequently tip over, causing spillage and materials get strewn throughout streets and neighborhoods. To prevent this from happening, Burrtec recommends doing the following: • Bag and tie trash before placing in barrels. This will make clean-up efforts easier should the barrels blow over. • If possible, do not set your trash or recyclables out for collection on windy days. Bag any excess trash and recyclables that will not fit in your barrel, and Burrtec will collect all accumulated bags along with your containers on your next scheduled collection day. Thank you for your assistance in keeping your neighborhoods clean. Household Hazardous Waste Facility Holiday Update! Safe Sharps Disposal Recycling List Home-generated sharps are syringes and needles used in your home to administer medication or to test blood sugar. It is illegal to dispose of sharps in your trash. Place these items into your blue recycling cart. The City of Rancho Cucamonga and the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District have partnered to provide a safe method to dispose of home-generated sharps from Rancho Cucamonga residents. To participate: • Aluminum cans (do not crush) • Aerosol cans (must be completely empty) 1. Go to any Rancho Cucamonga fire station Monday through Friday, 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., to pick up a free sharps-approved container.
