BX2125 Installation Instructions 1996-99 Ford Taurus 1996-02 Mercury Sable Installation of this baseplate requires removing the plastic belly pan, headlights and the front fascia. Four 17/32" holes will be drilled in the metal bumper. The plastic belly pan will also be notched out. Convenience link
extensions may be needed for some model vehicles. 1. Read the General Instruction Sheet included with this baseplate. 2. Remove the plastic belly pan underneath the metal bumper. 3. Remove the head lamps by removing the 10mm bolts and loosen the long silver bolt. Disconnect the wire connectors from rear of headlight assembly. 4. To take off the front fascia use a 10mm wrench to remove the top bolts, and a 8mm wrench for the bolts underneath the headlight area, remove the phillips screws on each end of the fender wells and the nuts beside the front park lights. Make sure that all wire connectors are unsnapped before removing the fascia. 5. With an assistant, center the baseplate on the metal bumper and mark the four 17/32" holes and drill. Place the double nut plates through each end of the metal bumper. Using the 1/2" x 3" and 1/2" x 1 1/2" bolts and lock washers, bolt the baseplate to the frame and apply loctite to each bolt. Tighten only after all four bolts are started. 6. Now bolt the right and left brace to the baseplate using 1/2" x 1 1/2" bolts and lock washers, do not tighten. Hold the back of each brace to the cross frame, mark area and drill 17/32" holes. 7. The plastic belly pan can now be replaced. Hold the belly pan up to the spot where it will go. The braces will be in the way, so as best as possible mark an area that can be cut out where the braces can fit through (Refer to drawing to see where cut should be made). After the belly pan has been notched out, loosen the front bolts of the braces and slide the pan over the braces so that the majority of the braces are exposed at the rear of the belly pan and the remainder will be above the pan. With this done, bolt the belly pan back into place. 8. Now insert the wire nuts through existing holes of cross frame, using the 1/2 x 1 1/2 bolts and lock washers, bolt the ends of the braces to the frame, apply Loctite and tighten all bolts. 9. The fascia can now be reinstalled on the vehicle using all hardware that was removed in steps 3 and 4. The attachment tabs on the baseplate will fit through the opening of the fascia. Do not forget to connect all electrical connectors. The convenience links on some models may not extend out far enough to be used, use the 3/8" hardware and bolt the convenience link extension as shown in the diagram on page 2. 10. The dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable. While the location and size of the holes in the baseplate were designed to allow for easy installation, it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear. 11. Install the tow bar and safety cables according to the instructions included in their packages. 12. Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. 13. DEALER OR INSTALLER: BE CERTAIN THE USER RECEIVES THE INSTRUCTION SHEET.
