BX3511 Installation Instructions 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara JLX and JLX Plus Utilization of Blue Ox baseplates with any tow bar not approved by Automatic Equipment Mfg. Company invalidates the limited warranty. This baseplate mounts using two existing holes in the engine supports and two holes will be drilled in the underside of the metal bumper. The front bumper covering and headlight assemblies will NOT need to be removed for this installation. 1. Read the General Instruction Sheet included with this baseplate. 1. Looking at the underside of the vehicle, note that there are four existing bolts, per side, at the engine supports. Remove the front, inboard bolt on each side of the vehicle using a 17mm socket and rachet. NOTE: These bolts will not be used during the installation of the baseplate. 2. Hold the baseplate up in position with the holes in the support arms over these holes and loosely bolt in place with the 12mm x 120mm bolts provided. Snug the bolts to hold the baseplate in position. Push the baseplate up until the vertical supports contact the metal bumper and mark the underside of the bumper where holes will need to be drilled for the vertical braces to be attached. 3. Drill the two holes in the underside of the bumper using a 1/2 inch drill bit. NOTE: It may make drilling easier if you have someone help you by holding the plastic bumper covering forward, out of the way. 4. Apply loctite to the 12mm x 120mm bolts with washer and start them through the support arms into the engine support holes, do not completely tighten. 5. Insert each wire nut plate in appropriate end of the bumper and center them over the drilled holes. Apply loctite to the 1/2 inch bolts provided with washer. Using a 3/4" socket and extension, thread them up through the vertical brackets in the baseplate and into the wire nut plates inside the bumper. 6. Tighten all four bolts completely according to the Bolt Torque Chart in the General Instruction Sheet. 9. The dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable. While the location and size of the holes in the baseplate were designed to allow for easy installation, it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear. 10. Install the tow bar and safety cables according to the instructions included in their packages. 11. Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. 12. DEALER OR INSTALLER: BE CERTAIN THE USER RECEIVES THE INSTRUCTION SHEET. Automatic Equipment Mfg. Co.
