Subject Description Form Subject Code ITC3088E Subject Title 3D Scan, Design and Print in Fashion Design Credit Value 3 Level 3 Pre-requisite / Co-requisite/ Exclusion Nil Objectives Intended Learning Outcomes Subject Synopsis/ Indicative Syllabus The aim of this course is to provide 3D scanning tools, 3D design tools and software and experience in 3D printing to students. 3D technology is widely used and the application in fashion is becoming a reality. This course will provide hand on knowledge about 3D technology and provide students with opportunities to explore in 3D scanning technologies, 3D design software, and 3D printing technologies, and hence create fashion related design including accessories. Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to: a. Build up a basic knowledge of 3D scanning and printing technologies, and related 3D software b. Apply 3D scanning and printing technologies with suitable 3D software in fashion design c. Critically analyse and assess the latest 3D scanning and printing technologies and developments from a professional and R&D perspectives d. Create 3D printed fashion elements and accessories using 3D scan, design and print method Indicative Syllabus  3D scanning equipment and technology  3D objects representations  3D design software  Online 3D design platforms  3D printing equipment and technology  Scan and print method  Scan, design and print method  Use of scan, design and print for fashion accessories (example 3D Printed jewelry, buttons and new fastenings methods, fashion elements of clothing, pouch and bags, etc)  Use of scan, design and print for fashion wearables (example, intimate apparel, footwear, headgear, and/or related fashion wearables) 1 Teaching/Learning Methodology Assessment Methods in Alignment with Intended Learning Outcomes This subject comprises mostly lectures and studio. Students will be given time to explore scanning method by scanning different types of objects. Students will learn limitations of different scanning equipment by using different scanning tools. This subject is collaboratively developed and delivered by staff from ITC and Industrial Center (IC). Student will learn some software for 3D visualization and design. Students will be able to print their design using a 3D printer. There will be discussion and presentations. Each lecture will have a short lecture and discussion session with student and staff. Students will be encouraged to express their opinions and experiences. Students will be encouraged to explore the application of 3D scan, design and print into different areas of fashion design. Student will work on their selected project at IC and use their knowledge from the lectures, studio practice to create an innovative design using scan, design and print method. Individual project is used to assess student knowledge in applying the 3D scanning, 3D software and 3D printing technology to create an innovative element of a fashion design garment, or fashion accessories The assessment methods and project is designed, developed and marked by ITC staff.
