S W E E X . C O M 1. Ensure the PC is switched off and is not connected to the power supply. 2. Also disconnect the printer and the monitor cable, because they have their own power supply, so that you are certain that there is no voltage on the PC. 3. Then unscrew the computer case. 4. Once you have unscrewed the computer case, make sure you discharge any static electricity from yourself by touching a (bare) central heating pipe or an unlagged water pipe. Take care not to use a magnetic screwdriver. Once again touch the metal frame of the PC case. Avoid touching any contact points in the PC, PC card or memory. 3 CA000040_man_inside 04-10-2004 13:21 Page 4 English version English version 5. Find a free PCI slot and remove the metal blanking plate inside the relevant slot in the computer case. It might be a little hard to insert the card into the PCI slot. If this happens, do not use force but try a different free slot. 6. Once the card has been inserted successfully, check that all the other cards are still inserted in their PCI slots correctly. Sometimes when inserting a PCI card, the other PCI cards are moved upwards causing the relevant card or even the entire PC to stop working. 7. Next replace the computer case cover and correctly reconnect all cables that were removed from the PC. 8. Now switch the PC back on. Check whether the modem has been installed Right-click on “My Computer”, select “Properties”, go to the second tab entitled “Device Manager” and you should be able to find a Motorola SM56 Speakerphone Modem under the item “Modem”. If you find the modem as above, it means that the modem has been successfully installed. If you see a yellow exclamation mark in the device, click on the device and then click “Delete”. Then restart the machine and install the modem once again, as described in Step 1. Software-installation Windows 98SE, 2000 and XP 1. Start your computer and wait until all programs have been loaded and have started up. Depending on the settings, you may first need to logon to the computer with your username and password. Look at the cursor to check the status. As soon as it changes from an hourglass into an arrow and the hard disk light has stopped flashing, it means that the computer has completed the start-up process and is ready for the installation. It is possible that you may not have sufficient rights under Windows 2000 to install drivers and software. In that case, contact your System Administrator. You need Administrator rights to install new hardware and software. After your PC has been fully started up, Windows will detect the modem and the following screen will appear: Warranty All articles that are carried under the name Sweex Essentials have a 3-year term of guarantee. Only the Sweex digital photo and video cameras have a 2-year term of guarantee. We offer a warranty of six months on rechargeable batteries. Settlement of guarantee takes place only via the dealer where you have purchased the product in question. Click “Cancel”. 2. Place the CD-ROM provided in your CD-ROM drive. Set-up will start automatically and will install the card. If not, first click “Start”, and then “Run”. Type the following in the window that appears: “D:\autorun.exe” (D stands for the drive letter of the CD-ROM player.) The program will now start searching for your modem and will install the required drivers for the same. This process may take some time. After the required drivers have been installed, you may opt to install the software provided, or else, you may exit the installation program by clicking “Exit”. 4 W W W. S W E E X . C O M 5
