When we come back to school, in September, we know we will have to work until November 1st ( “les vacances de la Toussaint” ). The holidays last for 10 days. Teachers give us homework (We think they give us too much). Then, we go to school from November 8th to December 22nd. At this moment, it's the Christmas holidays, which last for 2 weeks. After the Christmas holidays we go back to school more and more. Then, in February, there are the winter holidays (We think it's fun). Some of us go to the mountains skiing. After this fun time, unfortunately, we have to go to school again for about 2 months. For Easter, we have holidays which last for 2 weeks .Do you know what children are told in France? The Easter legend says that the bells run away to Rome on Easter Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock and come back on Easter Sunday at midday. As soon as they ring again, children go egg-hunting either in their gardens or in parks. When we come back to school, we know we are trapped: either we work hard and manage to get good marks or we will have to repeat the year and no pupil likes repeating a class, even if it is sometimes better for him.

CURRICULUM FRANCE - COLLEGE MARRACQ In France, all schools have the same curriculum and all pupils spend the same time at school. They keep the same teachers all year round. They have 13 teachers: one for French, one for Maths, two for English, two for History/Geography/Civics, one for Science, one for P E, one for Music, one for Spanish, one for Physics, and other one for Art. This is the same for other countries, but there are differences in the foreign languages, for example in Slovakia, they study German and English, but in Spain, they don’t study German, instead they study French.
SLOVAKIA - ZÁKLADNÁ ŠKOLA The school year lasts for ten months and we have a two month long summer holiday, also a Christmas, Spring, Autumn and Easter holiday. We have different types of schools in Slovakia: a) Kindergarten – little children play with toys, learn how to draw, count to ten and begin to work with computers b) Primary school – when children are 6 years old they have to go to the primary school. The first grade lasts from the first class to the fourth class. After that, children can move on to the second grade or eight-years-grammar school. In the first grade children have a class teacher plus another teacher of English. In the second grade children have a form tutor and then each subject is taught by different teachers. In the ninth class pupils have an examination in two subjects: Slovak language and Literature and Maths. In the first grade children do the following subjects: Slovak Language and Literature, Maths, Science, PE, Music, Art, Technology, Foreign Language. From the third class children study another subject about our country. The Second Grade is from the fifth to the ninth class. In the second grade children study the following subjects: Slovak Language and Literature, Maths, Science, Natural History, Chemistry, Physics, Foreign Languages, PE, Music, Art, ICT, and Technology. Lessons last 45 minutes. In the primary school children have four to seven lessons per day.

During the lunch break and after school we can go to clubs like the football club, the basketball club or the handball club. We can also play table tennis or a Basque sport called Pelote.
SLOVAKIA - ZÁKLADNÁ ŠKOLA In Slovakia in the afternoon we enable our student to visit free-time activities at our school organised by teachers, for example sport lessons, internet lessons, creating web-pages, Maths and Slovak language lessons and Creative workshops. Children do interesting day trips and trips into the countryside. Our school takes part in many projects for instance we all encourage good health in our school, and do projects such as “Behave in normal way”, “Cities all around the world”. During the school year our school prepares projects for younger children.
We do not have any “Club” as the British School usually has, but there are some activities that make students join together such as music, reading or chess. Every year, the Mathematics Department organises a contest about Mathematical Talent, and you can get a very good prize, for example, an MP4. Every Year but at the end of the third term, the Music Department organises a Concert which is carried out by different students who have been rehearsing the whole year. The Out-of-School Activities Department together with other departments organises: Different Talks on Sexual Education, Donation and Transplant of Organs, Professional Guidance…), Cultural and Study Visits, Excursions, Days of activities (just at the end of every term) and an End-of-year Trip.

At Nether Stowe there are lots of clubs ! There are sports clubs, like the football, rugby, hockey and swimming clubs. In the summer, there is an athletics club. Music clubs Big Band who play jazz music and the Wind Band who play film music like Shrek and Chicago. There is also a computer club and a chess club.
FOOD FRANCE - COLLÈGE MARRACQ The dining hall is a large, pleasant but noisy space. We can go there from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 pm. It’s like a cafeteria. We can choose what we want and usually take three different dishes: a hot or cold starter, some meat or fish with vegetables and a desert which can be yoghurt, fruit or tart.
SLOVAKIA - ZÁKLADNÁ ŠKOLA Slovak food in school is based on many different kinds of soups (vegetable, crème, chicken), porridge, boiled and stewed vegetables, meat and dairy products, especially those from sheep milk. We have a break (25 minutes) after the third lesson and the second (30 minutes) after the sixth lesson – lunch break. Other breaks last for ten minutes. We have a big dining room, when we eat our lunch from cooker.
Most students have already had something at home: a glass of milk, biscuits, magdalenas (similar to muffins) a toast, etc., but they still either buy a sandwich at the school canteen or bring one from home. You can also buy sandwiches, sweets, toasts and candies. At three o’clock in the afternoon, we go back home for lunch. Chickpeas, lentils, beans, rice, meat and stew are traditional dishes for lunch. At six o’clock in the evening we have a snack. We eat chocolate, sandwiches, biscuits and milk. Between 9 and 10 pm we have dinner. Light food such as an omelette, a salad or some fish is common.
ENGLAND - NETHER STOWE SCHOOL At Nether Stowe there is a main canteen where students can buy a range of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks; as well as a snack bar which sells a smaller amount of ready-to-eat items. As there isn’t much room in the canteen, we use the hall as a place to meet and eat during lunch and break times. Break lasts for 15 minutes, starts at 10:55 and finishes at 11:10. Lunch is 45 minutes long, starts at 12:10 and finishes at 12:55. Most students choose to buy their lunch in school; however some do bring their own packed lunch in from home.
