Welcome to Capital Fireplaces range of stoves This brochure contains a range of contemporary and traditional stoves combining supreme craftsmanship, quality materials and thoughtful design. We know that the right type of advice given during the initial stages of the buying process is of major importance to ensure that you have many years of enjoyment from your stove. Price alone should never be the sole reason for choosing a stove and therefore we would strongly recommend that you do not purchase directly from the internet. Capital Fireplaces products are not available for purchase directly via the internet, there are a network of Authorised Dealers to purchase through who can offer the correct advice and ensure the product is fitted in accordance with all current Building Regulations.

Stove Ventilation Houses built before 2008
Houses built after 2008
Houses built before 2008 are likely to have an air permeability greater than 5m so stoves with an output below 5kW do not require an air vent. However, stoves with outputs above 5kW require a permanently open vent. So for each kW of output above 5kW allow 550mm2 of air supply. 3
Extensive renovation of an older property carried out after 2008 may reduce the air permeability to less than 5m3, in which case the guidance for houses built after 2008 should be followed. Chimneys with flue stabilizers are subject to different ventilation requirements
Houses built after 2008 with an air permeability of less than 5m3 require the air supply to be calculated for the whole of the stove’s rated output. This means that the installation of stoves with an output of less than 5kW must now have a permanently open air vent. Allow 550mm2 of air supply for each kilowatt of rated output.
Capital Stoves Lifetime Guarantee For Added Peace Of Mind All Capital Stoves are covered by a lifetime guarantee (valid for original purchases only) from date of sale. This guarantee excludes the following naturally wearing consumable items: Door Glass, Firebricks, Rope Seals, Baffle & Grate (including riddling mechanism) In addition, the following criteria must be met. • Sight of the data plate that should have been fitted by the approved installer. • Proof of installation by HETAS or other approved body, or letter from Building Control confirming that the installation was installed in accordance with the Building Regulations • Proof of purchase from one of our “APPROVED SUPPLIERS” • Proof of annual sweeping of chimney, at which time an inspection as to the condition of the chimney should be carried out to allow for necessary maintenance to be performed. The use of unauthorized fuels such as petro-cokes will also invalidate the warranty. Capital Fireplaces Ltd will accept no responsibility for installations which have been carried out that are not in accordance to the Building Regulations or if the conditions stated in the manufacturer’s instructions are not adhered to. Guarantee applies to parts only

General Information About us Capital Fireplaces’ has been established for over 20 years, and is one of the UK’s leading trade suppliers of Fireplaces, Fires and Stoves. Having grown from the humble beginnings of a traditional family business we take pride in maintaining high levels of customer service and are renowned for both quality and design. Our range combines supreme craftsmanship with style and elegance. The breadth and variety of fireplace products should suit all tastes and budgets. From cottage bedrooms to elegant drawing rooms, farmhouses to flats, there is a fireplace and a stove to complement every home.
Important points • Always read user instructions prior to initially using the stove. • We recommend burning kiln dried wood, this will give you up to twice the heat output of freshly felled timber and greatly reduces tar build up in the flue. • Do not overload the stove at any one time • Avoid burning household rubbish as this can give off harmful gasses and will reduce the performance of the stove.
Cleanburn Stoves To burn fuel in a smoke controlled area the law determines that either the fuel should be smokeless or the appliance should be approved by DEFRA ( The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) normally these appliances are approved by DEFRA for burning kiln dried wood. Some of our DEFRA approved products are capable of burning both kiln dried wood and anthracite in smoke control areas, a dual fuel use that most cleanburn products cannot offer.
All Capital stoves are manufactured from cast iron or steel therefore it is vital that appliances undergo a period of “burning in”, this involves small fires initially, gradually increasing in size with each firing. If this process is adhered to you should experience years of enjoyable, trouble free use. All Capital stoves are CE approved to EN13240. Note: Many of the flue pipes shown in this brochure have been sprayed with one of Capital Fireplaces high temperature paints to match the finish of the stove.

Aftercare & maintenance CAST IRON AND STEEL Stoves & Firebaskets are made from cast iron and steel components and as such are prone to rusting if they come into contact with moisture. It has been known that a cast iron product has changed from highly polished to bright orange over night, when it was fitted into a house that had been newly plastered. Our products are delivered to your retailer with a thick protective coating which is to be removed once it has been installed (and when the plaster has dried out). From then on the products are vulnerable to rust and so we recommend a weekly routine of wiping down the unpainted parts of your stove or firebasket with WD40 or similar. When burning fossil fuels, it is your responsibility to ensure that you use smokeless fuels if you live in a smoke free zone. We suggest that you use fuels recommended by the Solid Fuel Association (www.solidfuel.co.uk). No responsibility can be accepted if high temperature fuels have been used, or if your chimney has excessive draft. Your retailer will be able to advise.
We recommend that you clean ash away regularly as this can cause premature failure of the grate. The grate is a consumable element of your fireplace and can be replaced by contacting your retailer.
Please ensure that you fully inspect your new stove or firebasket before it is installed as no responsibility for refitting or redecoration can be accepted if defective products are installed.
We recommend that chimneys should be swept every six months as a minimum.
Due to manufacturing processes, all measurements are approximate and may vary slightly. Please allow for a tolerance of plus or minus 12mm.
The colours shown in the brochure are as accurate as possible, however, please visit your retailer if colour is critical in order to see samples of the materials you like. Designs and products are occasionally altered or discontinued without prior notice (a reserved right), so if you are about to set your interior design around a fireplace shown in this brochure, then do please check with your retailer to ensure that there are no material changes.
The higher efficiency stoves can take longer to heat up the chimney. Small kindling fires are sometimes required to burn for up to 30 minutes in calm cold conditions to produce adequate flue draw.
It is essential that you have your stove or firebasket installed in accordance with Building Regulations and other standard requirements by a competent person experienced in fitting all elements of your fireplace – your retailer will be able to help you select an appropriately qualified installer. 51
