Alongside all the aforementioned environmental benefits, another important advantage to using remanufactured cartridges as an alternative to the OEM is that it helps to dramatically reduce your carbon footprint!
Remanufactured inkjet and laser cartridges
The remanufacturing process saves the cartridge from being incinerated or having to be disposed of at the end of its first life cycle. The cartridge doesn't need to be re-produced and therefore there is no requirement to extract additional oil, refine or re-process, ultimately saving energy and producing less CO2.
On n average, an empty inkjet cartridge weighs approximately 32.5 grams. Calculations show that the amount of CO2 produced in the lifecycle of 32.5 grams of plastic from conception to destruction is 200 grams. Therefore using just 5 remanufactured ink cartridges will save 1kg of CO2 for your company! Laser toner cartridges are at least ten times this weight and therefore at an average of 325 grams per laser toner cartridge you will be saving a tremendous 2kg of CO2 per laser cartridge! These calculations are based on the recycling of the plastic components of the cartridges only, if you were to take into account all other manufacturing processes such as energy use, packaging and distribution you could be looking at a saving of nearer 2kg of CO2 on inkjet cartridges alone!

The plastic in an inkjet cartridge can take up to 500 years to decompose, and up to 1000 years for a laser cartridge! Every inkjet cartridge requires an estimated 0.6 litres of oil to manufacture from new, so reusing an inkjet cartridge up to five times can save 3 pints of oil from needless additional manufacturing That same finished product can then be recycled multiple times, which saves on the earth’s limited and extremely valuable resources. Of the 65 million printer cartridges sold in the UK each year, only an estimated 15% are recycled! 35 million inkjet cartridges are needlessly disposed of in the UK each year – equivalent to between 20-28,000 tonnes of plastic
