MAKE-UP Before sending your child to the Carlyle at the Palace, we recommend that you help them apply some basic stage makeup, which would include light eyeliner and skin-tone foundation. This will keep their faces from being washed out by the lights on stage. Any other character makeup will be provided and applied by us at the venue; if the character requires it.
HAIR/ACCESSORIES Hair in the ‘50s was VERY conservative in smaller towns but it was also a time to experiment! BOYS can use hair gel or hair spray to create a side part (think Johnny Carson in 1955) or a long pompadour (think Elvis, James Dean, or The Everly Brothers in 1958). GIRLS playing parents can wear their hair in an updo or down with curls (think Betty Grable or Rita Hayworth). They may also wear appropriate jewelry (pearl necklace, etc.) or hair accessories. Girls playing teens can wear their hair down with a bright colored cloth head band or in a ponytail with a scarf or bow. In addition to in their hair, teen girls can also have a chiffon scarf tied around their neck. PLEASE SEE FIGURES 2, 4, & 5 FOR REFERENCE PHOTOS ON THE NEXT PAGE!
