PTFE hoses for the highest process requirements Welcome Since our foundation in 1929, we have manufactured hose assemblies for demanding applications. As an owner-managed company in the fourth generation, we have a vast amount of experience, and the name has become a synonym for industrial hose assemblies meeting the most demanding requirements. We have also made a decisive contribution to our industry. Through the continuous development of innovative products and competent advice to our customers, we have repeatedly developed new areas of application for PTFE hose assemblies. Today, PTFE hose assemblies are in use in all critical processes in the chemical, foodstuffs, and pharmaceutical industries. With each of our products, we meet the most stringent quality standards. In order to achieve this, we produce hose assemblies in Germany, in our state-of-the-art factory in Neumünster. This is the only way to ensure that we have full control of all processes and to be sure we can produce large quantities to the highest standards, even at very short notice. We do not rest on our laurels. Our engineers continue to develop our products on a daily basis and due to our involvement in standardisation committees on a national and international level, we constantly provide the industry with new impulses. On the following pages, we present to you the most recent results of our work: PTFE hose assemblies, which became what they are today based on 85 years of experience and innovation — a guarantee the highest quality. Our PTFE is free from dual-use substances, supplements and aromas. The special non-stick properties of the PTFE allow for easy cleaning and convey almost all media. The smooth surface of the tube prevents accumulation of dirt or bacteria. Depending on the hose design and operating conditions, it can withstand temperatures of –60°C to +260°C. The PTFE liners are available in a white (virginal and insulating) or black (antistatic/ electrically conductive according to ISO 8031 [electrostatic resistance 106Ω]) version. The additional use of a stainless steel spiral (vacuum spiral) gives the convoluted hose type C, CA a high resistance to vacuum and kinking. For the smooth hose type GA, GC, these properties are a manufacturing-related standard. Convoluted hose type C, CA (available with/without stainless steel spiral) • type C, white (virginal) • type CA, black (antistatic) The convoluted hose type C, CA is a universal suction and pressure hoses used in applications requiring a high level of flexibility. Smooth hose type GA,GC (with fixed stainless steel spiral) • type GA, black (antistatic) • type GC, white (virginal) The smooth hose type GA, GC is extremely flexible and yet smooth. The manufacturing-related stainless steel spiral gives the smooth hose a high resistance to vacuum and kinking. Smooth hose type G (not shown) • type G (virginal) The smooth hose type G is used in applications where no irregularities in the hose tube are desired or requested. Technical specifications are subject to change without notice. 5 6 PTFE convoluted hose with different reinforcement variants (B1, B3, B1Gum). 7 8 Reinforcement All braid types meet the required operating conditions, such as pressure or temperature, as well as chemical and operational requirements. Stainless steel braid B1 The stainless steel braid protects the internal PTFE liner, improves flexibility while ensuring the pressure resistance of the hose at the same time. We exclusively use high-quality stainless steel grades such as 1.4301. The braid is abrasion resistant. Modified synthetic braid B3 So far unique in the market, the modified braid is characterised by extremely high temperature resistance and extreme tear resistance. It resists operating pressures up to 32 bar without any problems and is thus significantly more resilient than conventional synthetic braids. Its temperature resistance ranges up to 230°C. In addition, the modified synthetic braid is TRbF-131/2compliant. Interwoven special metal filaments make it electrically conductive and suitable for use in explosive atmospheres. The B3 braid has the same chemical resistance as polyethersulfone (PES). Polypropylene braid B6 The braid of specially-developed monofilaments allows for high operating pressures while the low net weight enables easy handling. The polypropylene braid is not TRbF-compliant. Technical specifications are subject to change without notice. 9 Hose covers In addition with the standard versions, we offer further options as hose covers. Stainless steel braid with rubberised cover B1Gum Many industrial applications require increased abrasion protection as well as protection against injury while handling hose lines. Our rubberised stainless steel braid is the ideal solution for this area of application. In contrast to conventional systems in the market, our CR material is TRbF-131/2-compliant, thus self-extinguishing, antistatic and easy to clean. Stainless steel braid with silicone cover B1Sil A smooth white silicone cover was developed particularly for pharmaceutical applications, which makes cleaning of the hose significantly easier. In addition, it provides mechanical and thermal protection for users or equipment and can be used up to 180°C. Special pyro heat protection PY Specially developed for high temperature applications, this protective cover is suitable for permanent exposure at 260°C and short-term exposure at more than 800°C (exposure to flame). It protects the hose against high radiant heat and thus ensures a long service life under extreme conditions. The material is resistant to industrial chemicals and hydraulic oils. In addition, the heat protection is also suitable for reducing the external hose temperature in the case of hot media to ensure safe handling of the hose assembly. 10 Technical specifications are subject to change without notice. 11 12 PTFE smooth hose with stainless steel braid and Camlock quick coupling. 13 PTFE convoluted hose type C, CA The convoluted hose is highly flexible and and designed for use as a universal suction and pressure hose for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and foodstuffs industries. Its tube is available in the variants virginal and black (electrically conductive) and consists of convoluted and seamlessly extruded Teflon® T-62 by DuPont. The PTFE liner is temperature-resistant from –60°C to +260°C and resistant to almost all chemicals.* The even convolution of the tube provides a higher level of flexibility and resistance to kinking compared to conventional products. Thanks to its spiral, the convoluted hose is vacuumstable and the specially-developed braid types ensure optimum pressure resistance and excellent bending behaviour. Our rubberised hose covers comply with the technical regulations for flammable liquids (TRbF 131/2). All PTFE convoluted hoses are FDA-compliant according to 21 CFR § 177.1550. All benefits at a glance: Item number • extremely resistant to: – chemical impacts – temperatures from –60°C to +260°C – weather conditions and ageing processes • low friction coefficient (no stick-slip effect) • particularly anti-adhesive • water-repellent material • minimum thermal conductivity • flame-retardant (UL 94 [for 1.5 mm]: VO, LOI index: 95%) • no risk to health (FDA- and BfR-compliant) • suitable for vacuum operation • available in two versions: – C, with high electric insulation capability – CA, antistatic 14 *With the exception of halogens. External protection To further increase the long service life of the resistant PTFE hose assemblies, we offer the following accessories. Agraff protection hose AGRAFF On request, we equip the entire hose assembly with a highly-resistant stainless steel Agraff protection hose. This offers reliable protection against severe mechanical impacts. Rubber kink protection GKS The rubber kink protection newly developed by our engineers significantly improves the life span of hose assemblies. It reinforces the areas subjected to particularly high loads behind the bonding region and thus reduces the risk of kinking. Thanks to its electric conductivity, the kink protection can also be used in explosive atmospheres. Abrasion protection spiral FRAS For high levels of mechanical stress, we recommend our electrically-conductive protection spirals. These are available in stainless steel or synthetic variants. The stainless steel protection spiral resists temperatures from –60°C to +500°C, while the synthetic protection spiral is suitable for use from –60°C to +90°C. 21 22 PTFE smooth hose with reinforcement variant B1Sil and flanged dairy coupling. 23 Order number Safety clamp screw Safety clamp screw couplings with aseptic clamp couplings with aseptic connection according to flange according to EN 14420 EN 14420 Head size Material3 Order number mm 24 Flange size Material3 mm TCS13 34.0 SS ASFB15A 59.0 SS TCS19 34.0 SS ASFB20A 64.0 SS TCS25 50.5 SS ASFB25A 70.0 SS TCS32 50.5 SS ASFB32A 76.0 SS TCS38 50.5 SS ASFB38A 82.0 SS TCS50 64.0 SS ASFB50A 94.0 SS TCS65 91.0 SS ASFB65A 113.0 SS TCS75 106.0 SS ASFB75A 133.0 SS TCS100 119.0 SS ASFB100A 159.0 SS Safety clamp screw Safety clamp screw couplings, aseptic pipe fit- couplings, aseptic pipe fit- ting and lock nut according ting and external thread to EN 14420 according to EN 14420 Order number Thread2 Material3 Order number Thread2 Material3 ASM15A Rd. 34 x 1/8" SS ASV15A Rd. 34 x 1/8" SS ASM20A Rd. 44 x 1/6" SS ASV20A Rd. 44 x 1/6" SS ASM25A Rd. 52 x 1/6" SS ASV25A Rd. 52 x 1/6" SS ASM32A Rd. 58 x 1/6" SS ASV32A Rd. 58 x 1/6" SS ASM38A Rd. 65 x 1/6" SS ASV38A Rd. 65 x 1/6" SS ASM50A Rd. 78 x 1/6" SS ASV50A Rd. 78 x 1/6" SS ASM65A Rd. 95 x 1/6" SS ASV65A Rd. 95 x 1/6" SS ASM75A Rd. 110 x 1/4" SS ASV75A Rd. 110 x 1/4" SS ASM100A Rd. 130 x 1/4" SS ASV100A Rd. 130 x 1/4" SS Fittings PTFE hoses can be assembled with all fittings. Lined Camlock male coupling. 26 Flanged dairy coupling. Lining and coating To protect the fittings of the PTFE hose assemblies against aggressive materials, they are coated with synthetics such as E-CTFE (Halar®), lined with PTFE (alternatively PFA) or equipped with a PTFE hose and then flanged. Coating The wet sections of the fitting or coupling are coated with E-CTFE or a comparable synthetic. This provides effective corrosion protection against aggressive media. Lining A thick-walled PTFE profile form several millimetres thick is incorporated in all areas of the fitting which are in contact with the medium. It protects the fitting or coupling against chemical attacks by acids and bases. Due to its exceptional chemical resistance, PTFE offers a safe and economic alternative to expensive special alloys, such as Hastelloy. Flange The PTFE hose is heated to become malleable. In this state, it is drawn through the fitting or coupling and flanged according to the fitting end, adjusting it to the fitting. The advantage of flanging is that no dead spots are formed in the transition area from the fitting to the hose where media residues might accumulate. As a consequence, the highest possible level of cleanliness is ensured in sensitive areas like the pharmaceutical and foodstuffs industries. The use of a fullyautomated system for flanging of PTFE hoses also guarantees the manufacture of large quantities, while consistently maintaining high quality. Technical specifications are subject to change without notice. 27 28 PTFE smooth hose with flanged Tri-Clamp fittings. 29 Special hose assemblies On request, our engineers can also develop specialist solutions for your individual requirements. An example is the helix heating hose, which had been developed by us for the foodstuffs industry and has since been included in our standard product range. This spiral-shaped PTFE hose wound around the media-carrying hose enables the medium to be heated or cooled with steam, thermal oil, hot water or coolant. Another variant comes with electric trace heating. A resistance wire is wound around the mediacarrying hose and voltage is applied. The resulting heat is released to the medium. This variant is used when transporting liquid, viscous or molten media without loss of temperature. All heating and cooling hoses consist of highly-flexible, spirally-convoluted PTFE with a stainless steel braid as reinforcement. Properties: • very good bending flexibility • high heating capacity • small outer diameter • temperature range: –50°C to +180°C • helix heating hose for up to 16 bar of saturated steam, resilient, not vacuum-proof • media-carrying hose for up to 16 bar of saturated steam and vacuum-proof up to 0.6 bar • good mechanical properties, resistant to vibrations • thermally-isolated external stainless steel braid • resistant to aging Benefits: • long service life due to high-quality materials and robust design • adapts flexibly to the relevant application • constant quality and configuration for spare part deliveries 30 Technical specifications are subject to change without notice. 31 Technical information PTFE hoses are individually manufactured for the relevant application. To determine the hose structure in more detail, the operating conditions under which the hose is to be used are established in a first step. This includes: • the medium • the dimensions, such as length and nominal diameter • the fittings • the operating pressure • the operating temperature • the bending radius • the conductivity • the mechanical forces The technical data regarding the operating conditions are very important for choosing the correct hose assembly. As an example, the illustrations show the dependence of the operating pressure on the temperature for PTFE hoses in different nominal diameters. The higher the operating temperature, the lower the maximum operating pressure. A detailed guideline for hose assembly enquiries can be found in the download area of our website at www.marsoflex.de. Of course, we are always happy to give advice over the phone. 32 Technical specifications are subject to change without notice. 33 Do not overbend when hanging; instead use mountings such as hose gauges or rollers. Do not kink hose lines in the bonding region. Avoid slanting tensile forces. Hose lines should be designed to be of sufficient length. Avoid slanting tensile forces in the bonding. Please do not twist the hose line when installing and avoid torsional forces. 34 Correct use Place directions of motion at hose level. To avoid damage or kinking please do not position or pull hose assemblies over sharp edges. Allow ample space for hoses in motion. Please avoid kinking or contact with floors or walls. Avoid fluctuations in bending strain. 35 Hose and Coupling Technology Alfons Markert + Co.
