NTSC/PAL Digital Camera Transmission System CCU-900/900P CA-950/950P Sony Digital Camera Transmission System The CA-950* Camera Adaptor and CCU-900* Camera Control Unit are the first of a new generation of digital camera transmission systems to make use of fiber optic cables. With the use of digital techniques for camera signal processing, there are clear advantages to keeping signals in the digital domain between the camera and CCU. While digital triax systems have cable length limitations, and can also have differential time delay problems with RGB signals, the Sony CA-950 Camera Adaptor and the CCU-900 Camera Control Unit virtually eliminate these problems by combining Y/R-Y/B-Y component transmission with fiber optic technology. This allows camera operation by a CCU from distances of up to 3000 meters, without degrading resolution, aliasing or signal-to-noise performance. With local powering of the camera, this distance can be extended to several kilometers. While meeting the demand for high-quality digital transmission in existing camera systems, the CA-950 and the CCU-900 take an important step forward in the digital broadcasting era. * The CA-950 and CCU-900 are each available in two models: the CA-950 and CCU-900 for NTSC and the CA-950P and CCU-900P for PAL. CA-950 CCU-900 Features Digital Transmission Three 270 Mbps/4:2:2 signals are transferred via a single fiber optic cable. The signals, once converted from analog to digital format in the camera head, are output directly from the CCU-900 via the three standard SDI outputs. An SDI-format monitoring output is also incorporated. Consequently, there is no additional A/DD/A processing, no RGB differential time delay and no increase in aliasing through the system, resulting in “true” digital transmission. Dual Camera System A unique Dual Camera System feature has been made possible with the use of a fiber optic connection. A pair of cameras, linked by two SDI cables, can be connected to two separate CCUs, also linked with two SDI cables, via a single, shared fiber optic cable (up to 3000 meters in length). Not only does this keep the two video signals in the digital domain; it also halves the amount of cable needed to connect the CCUs and cameras. Note: Super Motion mode is not available when configured for Dual Camera System operation. 2 Dual Camera System Features Super Motion Video System When combined with a BVP-9500WS and CA-950, the CCU-900 functions as the control unit for Sony’s Super Motion Video System. Connecting easily to a Sony MAV-555 Multiaccess Video Disk Recorder or similar storage device, the CCU-900 serves as the control center for a completely digital Super Motion System. The use of an MAV-555 makes slow-motion replay possible, even while continuing to record. Super Motion Video System Configuration Note: Optional BKP-9330 (for CCU-900) and BKMA-520SS (for MAV-555) boards are required for Super Motion applications. Current System Compatibility The CCU-900 is designed to work with not only the newest digital camera systems, but also with your current system components, including MSU-700A Master Setup Units, CNU-700/500 Camera Command Network Units, and RCP-700 Series Remote Control Panels. Similarly, the CA-950 can be attached to a variety of Sony camera models such as the BVP-950 and BVP-9500WS. The flexibility of these models provides for easy migration to a high-quality digital transmission system, based on fiber optic cables.
