In the case of a reading error, the terminal will automatically prompt you to retrieve the data by swiping the magnetic strip reader, provided the bank has enabled the card for this. In the case of credit cards with chip the decision is first made during the booking as to whether the customer confirms the payment with signature or PIN. Blue: entries to be made by the customer. Thus it is, for example, that with many giro cards, a Visa or Mastercard function is also lodged. The customer can activate the selection before the card is read (inserted / held in front) by pressing the "select" field on the left in the display. After the card is read they can then select a card function. All of the lodged card functions are not always supported. This is to be borne in mind depending on your acceptance contract. Depending on the card being used, it is possible that additional inputs are expected by the terminal. Hence an application selection (e.g. between giro card and Maestro) or switching to another language can be prompted. Indicate possible messages in the display to the customer. 3 Reversal / Refund / Tip Reversal Enter cashier PIN Field Key Key Enter TA no. from purchase receipt OK Read card remove when prompted OK Display prompts the appropriate entry method (chip or magnetic strip reader). Incorrect PIN Ask customer to check PIN, then start transaction again. Invalid card Ask customer to use an alternative payment method. Card declined Ask customer to use an alternative payment method. Reversal not possible Check the input data, then start transaction again. PIN entered incorrectly too many times Customer needs to contact his/her financial institution to arrange for the card to be unlocked. System error Please check printout for clarifying message, otherwise call B+S Hotline. Transaction declined Please check printout for clarifying message from authorising system. Transaction not possible Card cannot be processed at the moment. Please try again later. Repeat the process later if necessary. Card-related error messages come from the authorisation system for the card being used. Only the institute that has issued the card can substantiate the accuracy of the message. If a transaction is declined, always check the additional text provided by the card issuer. This may contain important information on how to proceed. 9 Security Checklist for merchant at POS Always compare the signature on the receipt with the one on the card. Please check the validity period of the card with the embossed dates. If only one date is given, this represents the date of expiry. Use the UV security features on credit cards: if no UV security features are visible under UV light, it is highly probable that the card is a fake. Always ask the customer to check the amount or at least do this yourself to identify any keypad input error before the card payment goes through. Ensure that your customers are able to concentrate on entering their PIN correctly and without anyone else seeing. Take all reasonable steps to avoid retaining receipts or card details. Dispose of old receipts in such a way that the data on them can not come into the possession of third parties. Outside hours of business, store your terminal in a safe place. Do not allow unauthorised persons to have access to the terminal. If you suspect that the terminal may have been tampered with, please report this immediately to the police and to B+S. Ensure that that you keep the merchant copy of the receipt for all card transactions (purchase, reversal, refund). This is the only record containing important data for any subsequent charges or for identifying the cardholder. For additional information about security, please visit our website: www.bs-card-service.com 10 B+S terminal security seal Your terminal actually constitutes an element within the „money cycle“ and should therefore be handled with as much care as a €500 note. B+S terminal security seal Criminals are constantly attempting to open POS terminals in order to gain access to card details and the personal identification numbers (PINs) of cardholders. We can confirm that all B+S Card Service terminals comply with the current guidelines of the German banking industry (DK). But at B+S, we have gone one step further by including a visual safeguard! All terminals are supplied with a security seal. This label is located on the side of the terminal, usually spanning the upper and lower sections of the casing. Any unauthorised attempt to open the casing will destroy the seal. Check your terminal every day and make sure that the security seal is intact. Safe use of equipment Caution! The terminal should only be operated with its original power supply unit. Any attempt to open the terminal housing will cause the integrated electronics to be destroyed and all sales data to be deleted. 11 Important telephone numbers Questions Help Authorisation service B+S Card Service B+S Card Service +49 (0)69 6630-5555 Your terminal ID +49 (0)69 6630-5310 Always quote this number B+S Card Service · BSTZ1302 · Version 1.1 · Phase H · As at 12/2016 Customer service B+S Card Service GmbH Lyoner Strasse 9 60528 Frankfurt am Main Telephone: +49 (0)69 6630 50 Fax: +49 (0)69 6630 5211 [email protected] www.bs-card-service.com 12 Subject to technical changes © All texts and images copyright B+S Card Service GmbH No part of this document may be reproduced without the express written approval of B+S Card Service GmbH.
