Central ventilation with heat recovery unit KWLC 1800 SEH OPERATION AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS NO. 94225 It is important for safety reasons, that you read and observe this instruction fully before proceeding. RECEIPT The consignment contains: KWLC 1800 SEH vertical installation with electric after heating including a controller with 12 m connecting cable Please check delivery immediately on receipt for accuracy and damage, please notifiy carrier immediately. In case of delayed notification, any possible claim may be void. STORAGE When storing for a prolonged period the following steps should be taken to avoid damage to the unit: Protection of motor by dry, air- and dust-proof packing (e.g. plastic bags with drying agent and moisture indicators). Store in a place that is water proof, vibrationfree and free of temperature variations. When storing for several years or at motor standstill an inspection of the bearings with possible re-lubrication and an insulation inspection are essential before starting operation. With the SEH-type the heater is to be checked. Damages due to improper - transportation, storage or putting into operation are detectable and cannot be claimed as warranty – Condensation run-off The condensation pipe is to be connected to the water run off by means of a flexible pipe of 32 mm diameter. If it is not in a room, which is heated, it must be insulated. The frost protection control via self-regulating heating cable is recommended. Attention: When connecting the condensation pipe by (cold) pressing avoid any axial or radial forces on the unit drainpipe. The use of a flexible pipe is recommended. Fill the drain trap with water before putting into operation to avoid smells from the drain system. The regulations of the water board and other legislations must be observed. OPERATION – USE Compact unit KWLC 1800 SEH to use in dry indoor areas for ventilation with heat recovery. Suitable as central or decentral solution for commercial or industrial applications. The standard equipment permits the installation and use in frost-protected rooms up to +5 °C. . For operation under difficult conditions, e.g. high humidity, long periods of standstill, high air pollution or through climatic, technical or electronic influences other than standard operations may not be suitable. For this reason please enquire and obtain operation release. A release by a third party is not valid. UNIT OPERATION In the heat exchanger the cold outside air and the warm extracted air "crosses over " without touching. Through this method approx. 80% of the energy of the warm air is transferred to the incoming air. Additionally a thermostat controlled electric heating element (after heating) warms up the inlet air (in extreme cold weather conditions) to the required temperature. It is controlled by a temperature sensor at the terminal box and an inlet air sensor. Frost conditions are detected by a Thermo-Humidity sensor, which is positioned in the heat exchanger and the bypass flap. In addition an electric heater battery can warm up the inlet air (No heater for buildings). The inlet air is directed to the living rooms and bedrooms through ducts and dampers. The stale air is extracted from the bathrooms, toilets and kitchens and flows back to the heat exchanger via the ducting system and fan, transferring heat before being discharge into the open air. – Technical room requirements Minimum space for service in front of unit 1000 mm. Minimum space for service above the unit 500 mm. The unit must be placed in a separate technical room with a gully. Ceiling/floor/walls/doors must be in the necessary fire class. – Fireplaces Fire and building regulations must be observed – Air Ducting, Ventialtion circuit When designing the ductwork, try to achieve the shortest possible runs. Use smooth pipes (rigid plastic or steel ducting), to avoid high-pressure loss, noise etc. For the main ducting (outside air, extract air, inlet air, discharge collection) a diameter 400 mm is recommended. To reduce condensation in the extract pipes, the ducting has to be insulated where appropriate. Also if inlet and extract ductwork cross unheated rooms insulation must be provided to reduce heat loss. Fresh air should be taken into living- and bedrooms, extraction from bathrooms, toilets and kitchens. To regulate the whole system use adjustable Helios valves. The extract from the kitchen needs to be filtered. A kitchen hood must not be connected up to the unit (danger of grease carried into the heat exchanger). There must be a good air flow (e.g. using door grilles) within the building between intake rooms and extract rooms. Important: all fire protection regulations - where applicable- must be followed. PERFORMANCE DATA To achieve the given performance, the unit must be correctly installed. The duct system must be designed to be within the units pressure capabilities and have good flow into and out of the unit otherwise there will be a reduction in the units performance. Noise figures are stated as sound power levels LWA in dB (A) (conforming to DIN 45635 Pt.1). Sound pressure levels LPA depend on room specific conditions. INSTALLATION-ASSEMBLY The KWLC 1800 SEH is suitable for "vertical" installation. When installed in areas with low ambient temperature (e.g. roof space) the unit may require additional insulation. Otherwise condensate could occur at the casing side walls. For maintenance work the unit has an access door on both sides. For the installation the unit can be turned by 180°, so that the outside- and extract- as well as the extractand inlet air connections can be on the left like on the right. Bends and long ducting are deleted by these alternatives. They reduce pressure loss and increase the system effectiveness. The ducting should be as short as possible and tight bends should be avoided as they can lead to a high-pressure loss and airflow noise. The ductwork joints should be fully sealed to prevent air loss. An easy connection of the condensation drainage with the drain system of the house has to be guaranteed. Note: The operating switch is supplied inside the unit and must be removed before installation. It is essential that the installed unit tray has a drop in the direction of the condensate water flow. – Recommended sound insulation - To avoid vibrations a vibration damper or a damping mat should be installed under the unit. - After installation of the unit a flexible connector must be mounted between unit and duct. - Allow cable a sufficient length for "oscillation". - The main silencer must be placed near the unit, preferably in the technical room. – Supply air/Exhaust air - The openings for supply air and exhaust air must lie in a sufficient distance to each other to prevent a shortcut. - The fresh air intake must be placed away from smoke, dust and walls exposed to the sun. - The supply air intake should be placed min. 1 m above ground level to reduce the risk of clogging with snow and leaves. - Follow the supplier's recommendations for max. /min. air flow rates through the intake/ exhaust gratings/covers. 1 Central ventilation with heat recovery unit KWLC 1800 SEH – Backdraught shutter in supply/exhaust air connection (accessory). Must be used as protection of cold air and draft. SPEEDS AND SETTINGS Note: if the power supply of the unit is cut it will restart afterwards in NORMAL speed (speed 2) and the electric after heater is activated. Attention: For good room conditions and to avoid condensation water damage, the unit should not be completely switched off, except in case of servicing / maintenance or in case of breakdown. – Electrical connection Important: Electrical connection may only be carried out by a qualified person. All electrical work must only be carried out with the power supply off. A lockable isolator is required to isolate from the mains with a minimum of 3 mm contact opening of each pole. All relevant safety and installation regulations (for example DIN VDE 0100 and IEE regulations) are to be adhered to. Electrical connections are to be made according to wiring diagrams provided in these instructions. The connection takes place in the terminal box on the top side of the casing according to the wiring diagram. The installation of the intake air temperature sensor should be fitted inside the intake air duct (approx. 1-1,5 meters from the unit). The sensor is pre-wired as standard. – DIP-Switch setting Important: When putting the unit into operation the dip-switch settings and the temperature settings must be checked. It is recommended to carry out customer specific setting on site. OPERATION - ADJUSTMENT The KWLC 1800 SEH is speed controlled by a switch with 12 m (max. length 50 m) flying cable (included in delivery), mountable in any distance from the KWLC. The unit supports two operation steps: " Normal " and " Lowered " (A display indicates the operation mode). These functions are set-up during the installation. The built-in clock timer automatically controls the weekly timing of the fans (from "Normal" to "Lowered" or "Off"). The lowered mode can be switched to normal for a given time of 60, 120 or 180 minutes. Afterwards the mode automatically returns to "Lowered". Differential pressure switch to supervise the filters is included as standard. – Regulating the additional heating for units with electric heater battery The thermostat for the additional heating (15) is at the terminal box on the top of the unit sensing the extract air after the heat exchanger. The thermostat is factory set at 5 °C. The heater is protected against overheating by a thermal overload thermostat (22) that switches off automatically when a temperature of 50 °C has been reached. When the temperature is lower again, the thermostat switches on automatically. In case of repeated switching off the overload thermostat the reasons have to be investigated and problems to be solved. As an additional safety control, a second thermostat (21) switches off the whole unit if a temperature of 80 °C is exceeded. The thermostat can be manually reset by pressing the red push button, which is accessible in the inside of the unit by opening the doors. Switch No. Recommendation 1 ON Function ON = Electrical heater 2 OFF 3 OFF 4 ON OFF= No change of the fan speed ON = Fan is turned off during night mode OFF = No temperature drop ON = 3 °C supply air temperature drop during night mode OFF = No change of the fan speed ON = Lowered speed during night mode 5 OFF 6 ON 7 OFF 8 OFF OFF = No change of the fan speed ON = Speed reduction due to low temperature. Starting the heating OFF = Bypass off ON = Must be switched on. Bypass is affected by after-heating. OFF = Requisite for 1800-Type ON = Other Types OFF = Must be in OFF-position (Thermal sensor ISDN) ON = ----- – Start-up of the unit - Make sure that the fuses F1 (servo motor, fan) are activated. - Make sure that the fuses F2 (electric heater element group 1) are activated. - Make sure that the external isolator switch exists. – Frost Protection of the Heat Exchanger Unit A thermal humidistat (14) avoids ice build up on the heat exchanger unit of the KWLC. This sensor controls the intake air fan to avoid ice build up and is mounted where the extract air leaves the heat exchanger. Warm air e.g. from the bathroom contains high humidity and therefore it is very likely that condensation occurs. Therefore the temperature in the heat exchanger must not drop as low that water in it freezes. The thermal humidistat measures the humidity of the air. In addition it measures the temperature of the heat exchanger unit. In case of frost danger and high humidity in the heat exchanger the bypass flap opens simultaneously to protect the heat exchanger unit. The open bypass flap remains unchanged until the heat exchanger has warmed itself sufficiently. In case of frost danger und dry air in the heat exchanger the KWLC keeps its adjusted operating state (no reduced output). CONNECTION OF EXTERNAL COMPONENTS SEH Pic. 4 clock (page 8, pic.8) 1 Switch Switch for KWLC 1800 SEH with 12 m (max .length 50 m) connecting cable. The switch should be preferably installed in a central place so that the settings can be chosen simply and monitored. The device consists of a clock timer and a control mode. The fans run in normal operation on maximum speed. A speed reduction is achieved via clock timer or external components via point 5. Remote display – Clock timer Can be programmed with day and night functions. The day mode regulates the high fan speed whose speed steps can be preset manually with the transformer. The night mode regulates the low fan speeds or switches off the fan.(Set DIPswitch no.4 on circuit board to ON). With lowered fan speed during the night, the same inlet air temperatures can be achieved with the day mode. 2 Central ventilation with heat recovery unit KWLC 1800 SEH – No reactivation necessary, after malfunction the unit goes over to normal operation again. 5 Alternatively external lowering of fan speed / Potential free contact For example "Lowering" as master control 6 Unit Off / Potential free contact Potential free gate input which turns off unit when contact is connected. Comfort control of different conditions of operation. 7 Optional room air temperature sensor (NTC) For the time being not available. 8 Master alarm / Potential free exit if thermal cutout trips then, - terminal 7/8 is closed - heating is switched off - bypass flaps open up (outside air inlet) - fans are switched off Reset button on the circuit board must not be pressed for deleting the interference. If thermal cutout opens the lower reset button must be reset manually (see point 21). 9 Outside air back draught shutter 230 V~ Shutter outlet for connection of motor driven back draught shutter type RVM 400 (wiring diagram SS-380.1) 10 Extract air back draught shutter 230 V~ Shutter outlet for connection of motor driven back draught shutter type RVM 400 (wiring diagram SS-380.1) Control mode/Display - Fast blinking: serious errors - Slow blinking: normal errors - Symbol for high fan speed. - Symbol for low fan speed or Stop (switch on DIP-switch) TEST - switch for light test 60 MIN - LED for speed step 60 120 MIN - LED for speed step 120 180 MIN - LED for speed step 180 - Symbol: Switch for fan speed setting 60, 120, 180 min. If you wish a different operational mode, proceed as follows: Reduced fan speed during the day: Press ON/OFF button once, so that "C-" appears in the display. Then the fan speed is lowered to" fan speed at night". Increased fan speed during the day: Press ON/OFF button once, so that "C" appears in the display. The fan speed increases to" fan speed by day". If the temperature night setback is programmed the temperature set point changes itself accordingly. Note: At the next cyclical impulse of the clock timer the unit returns to the automatic mode again. CONNECTION OF INTERNAL COMPONENTS SEH (page 8, pic. 8) Frost protection sensor in the heat exchanger / extract air The electronic frost protection sensor is in the heat exchanger in order to detect the humidity level and temperature of the extract air. This allows a more precise detection of the risk of frost in the heat exchanger. 15 Potentiometer for temperature set point Standard value for the internal electric heater control 17 Supply air motor 18 Extract air motor 19 Bypass flap in front of heat exchanger The bypass flap is operated dependent on the supply air temperature and the heating need. 20 Supply air duct temperature sensor (NTC) Supply air duct sensor (NTC) must be installed in the air duct. Installed terminal-sided. 21 Thermal cutout with manual reset 22 Thermal cutout with automatic reset 23 Filter control outside air If the sensors indicate an obstruction of the filter, clean the filter or change the filter if necessary. To monitor the filter, a differential pressure switch is integrated to the KWLC 1800 SEH. If the filter is dirty a red LED is blinking. 24 Filter control extract air If the sensors indicate an obstruction of the filter, clean the filter or change the filter if necessary. To monitor the filter, a differential pressure switch is integrated to the KWLC 1800 SEH. If the filter is dirty a warning lamp lights up. 25 Pressure control outside air / supply air fan Only for SEH-unit. Heater can be only switched on, if the fan runs. 26 Fan Cooling Control box 27 Heating rods 14 – Permanent manual operation Same result as manual operation , however ,it is not reset automatically. - For "fan speed by day" press the button "m" and ON/OFF at the same time so that a "C" appears in the display. - For "fan speed at night" press the button "m" and ON/OFF at the same time so that a "C-" appears in the display.
