Cold Front Transition Frame Installation Guide
1. Supported Enclosure/Rack Models The CFTF4524BB Transition Frame works with Black Box Elite Cabinets, part number EC45U2442xxx—45U, 24"W, 19" EIA.
2. Safety Information Install the Cold Front Transition Frame on an enclosure that is loaded with equipment, counter-weighted, or stabilized to avoid tipping of the enclosure. To avoid personal injury and damage to the enclosure, the existing rear door, and the Heat-Transfer Door (HTD), two people should perform the installation.
3. What’s Included The Cold Front Transition Frame (CFTF4524BB) works with Black Box Elite Cabinets (EC45U2442xxx—45U, 24"W, 19" EIA). Your package should include the following items. If anything is missing or damaged, contact Black Box Technical Support at 724-746-5500 or
[email protected]. • (1) left vertical frame • (1) right vertical frame • (2) horizontal frames • (9) M5x8 socket cap screws • (1) hinge kit ([2] hinges and [4] M5x10 mounting screws) • (13) 10-32 x 1⁄2" socket cap screws • This installation guide
4. Tools Required • Tools needed to remove the existing rear door and hinges (see the installation manual provided by the enclosure/rack vendor for details). • 4-mm hex key for the M5x8 screws and a 5⁄32” hex key for the 10-32 screws (tools not provided).
5. Transition Frame Installation Instructions 1. Remove the existing enclosure rear door and hinges (if installed). 2. Facing the rear of the enclosure, take the left vertical frame and position it with the top/bottom mounting flanges facing the right (inward) and the hinge holes closest to the mounting flange at the bottom (see Figures 1 and 2). Attach one hinge to the top four holes on the interior side of the left vertical frame (HTD mounting pin facing up) using two locating pins and two M5x10 screws (screws provided in Hinge Kit). Attach the other hinge to the bottom four holes on the interior side of the left vertical frame (HTD mounting pin facing up) using two locating pins and two M5x10 screws (screws provided in Hinge Kit). Fasten the hinges by screwing in from the exterior using approximately 34 in-lbs of torque (Figure 2).

3. Take the right vertical frame and position it with the top/bottom mounting flanges facing the left or inward and the slot to accept the handle closest to the outer edge. 4. Position each vertical frame vertically on the rear of the enclosure and align the holes in the vertical frames with the corresponding hinge holes in the enclosure. Insert one 10-32 x 1⁄2” socket cap screw through each of the six corresponding holes in each of the vertical frames and loosely fasten all 12 screws into the threaded holes in the rear enclosure frame. 5. Loosely fasten the horizontal frames to the top and bottom of the two vertical frames using two M5x8 socket cap screws per side, screwing in from the interior into the threaded holes in the horizontal frames (see Figures 2 and 3). The open side of each horizontal frame should be facing outward. 6. Adjust all four frame members so that their exterior surfaces are flush and square with one another. 7. Tighten the horizontal frames to the vertical frames, and then tighten the vertical frames to the rear enclosure frame using approximately 34 in-lbs of torque. 8. To attach the Heat-Transfer Door to the Transition Frame, please refer to the Heat-Transfer Door (HTD) Installation Guide.
