Important: Please read these instructions thoroughly before using your appliance. Keep them in a safe place for future reference.
SAFETY INFORMATION • This chest freezer is intended for normal household use. • The appliance is designed for indoor use only. • Wait at least 2 hours before first powering up the appliance to allow the cooling system to settle after transportation. • Do not sit, stand or place any other heavy items on top of the appliance. • Do not allow children to play with the appliance to avoid the risk of entrapment and suffocation. • Do not use mechanical, electrical or chemical methods to speed up the defrost process. • Do not store liquids in glass containers in the freezer as these may shatter. • Do not store flammable materials such as alcohol, gasoline, LP gas or glue, etc, in the freezer. •
This appliance contains the refrigerant isobutene (R600a) which is flammable. • If the refrigeration circuit should become damaged, avoid naked flames and sources of ignition. Thoroughly ventilate the room in which the appliance is situated. • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or suitably qualified person, in order to avoid a hazard. • Any electrical work required to install the appliance should be carried out by a qualified person.
• This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
• Do not position the appliance near a heat source. • Ensure that sufficient space is left around the appliance to provide adequate ventilation. • Do not use single/multiple adapters or extension cables. • This appliance is designed to be freestanding only and should not be builtin.
INSTALLATION • It is recommended that 2 people unpack and install the appliance. • The appliance must be positioned on a firm, level, solid floor, which is strong enough to support the freezer when it is fully loaded. • Ensure that a minimum of 15cm of space is left at the back and sides of the appliance, to allow for proper ventilation. • Ensure that there is enough space above the appliance for the lid to fully open. • Locate the appliance away from sources of heat and out of direct sunlight. • Do not install the appliance in a moist or wet environment. • This appliance is suitable for use in an ambient temperature of 10 to 43°C. WARNING: This appliance must be earthed. • Any electrical work that is required to install the appliance must be carried out by a qualified electrician. • The freezer should be powered from a 220-240V 50Hz supply. • It is recommended that the socket is still accessible after the freezer has been installed.
OPERATION Before using your Chest Freezer 1. Ensure that the appliance has been installed as recommended and that it is level. 2. Clean the inside of the freezer compartment (see ‘Care and Maintenance’) 3. Ensure that the appliance has been left for a minimum of 2 hours before switching on the power, to allow the refrigeration system to stabilise. 4. Insert the plug into a socket and switch on the supply. 5. Run the chest freezer for 2 – 3 hours to allow the compartment to get down to temperature, before placing food in the freezer compartment. Caution: When the compressor first starts up it may produce some background noise. This is normal and will reduce as the cooling system operates.
Temperature Control The temperature control is located at the front bottom right hand corner of the appliance. The dial can be set between ‘1’ and ‘6’. A higher setting creates a colder temperature inside the freezer compartment. Adjust the temperature control to the setting that best suits your needs. A setting of 3 – 4 should be appropriate for most household applications. To turn the freezer off, turn the dial to the ‘OFF’ position. Note: When the dial is in the ‘OFF’ position the cooling system will not operate, but there is still power to the appliance. The chest freezer has three indicator lamps: 1. Power (Green) – This will be on when there is power supplied to the appliance. 2. Run (Red) – This will come on when the compressor is operating. 3. Alarm (Amber) – This will come on when the freezer compartment is not cold enough to freeze food. Note: If the appliance is unplugged, power lost or turned off; you must wait 3 - 5 minutes before repowering the appliance. Otherwise the compressor will not start and the freezer will not work.
Storing Food • Ensure that pre-frozen food is still frozen when it is stored in the freezer. • Cooked food should be allowed to cool to room temperature before placing in the freezer. • Food should be stored in freezer bags or freezer proof containers. • Distribute fresh food evenly in the compartment so that air can circulate. • Do not re-freeze food that has thawed out, unless you cook it again to kill off harmful bacteria. • Reseal packs properly after removing items. This will help prevent the items from drying out and frost building up on any remaining food. • Odd shaped items can be stored in the basket. To reach other items in the freezer just slide the basket to one side or lift it out.
Energy Saving Tips • Position the chest freezer in as cool a location as possible, out of direct sunlight and away from heat producing appliances. • Do not set the temperature control to a higher setting than is necessary. • Seal food bags and dry food containers before placing them in the freezer. This cuts down on frost build-up inside the freezer. • Organise and label food so that the required item can be quickly found. This will mean that the lid is open for as short a time as possible. • Defrost the freezer regularly to keep the frost layer below 5mm thick. • Ensure that the seal is kept clean and that a good seal forms when the lid is closed.
CARE & MAINTENANCE Warning: Always unplug the appliance before cleaning or defrosting the freezer. Cleaning Your Freezer • Wash the inside of the freezer compartment with warm water. • Wash the storage basket with a mild detergent solution. • The outside of the freezer can be cleaned with a damp cloth containing mild detergent and warm water. Take care to ensure that water does not go into the temperature control box. • Thoroughly dry the interior and exterior of the chest freezer. • Ensure that the rubber seal on the lid and around the top of the cabinet are cleaned regularly, so that a good seal is maintained and the freezer runs efficiently. Defrosting Your Freezer Over time frost will build up on the walls of the freezer compartment. At least once a year or when the frost is 5 -10mm thick, the freezer will need to be defrosted to ensure that the freezer is working efficiently. Defrosting is better to be done when the stock of frozen food is low. • Remove all frozen food from the freezer compartment and place it in a cooler. Wrapping the food in newspaper will help to keep it frozen. • Turn the temperature control to the ’OFF’ position. • Switch off the mains and unplug the freezer.
• Unscrew and remove the drainage caps at the bottom of the freezer compartment and on the front of the appliance. • Place a container under the drainage outlet to collect the defrost water. • Carefully remove the ice layer with an ice scraper. • Warm (not boiling) water can be poured onto the ice to speed up the defrosting process. • Once all the water has drained out, clean and thoroughly dry the freezer compartment. • Refit the drainage caps. • Set the temperature control to the required setting. • Plug in the freezer and switch on the power • Run the freezer for at least an hour before returning the frozen food to the compartment. Power Failure • If the mains power should go off, avoid opening the freezer lid so that the interior remains as cool as possible. • The food inside the freezer should remain frozen as long as the power is off for less than 24 hours. • If the power is due to be off for more than 24 hours then the frozen food should be quickly moved to another freezer. Vacations • For vacations of less then 3 weeks the freezer can be left operating. • For long vacations the food should be removed from the freezer. The appliance should be unplugged, defrosted and cleaned thoroughly. To prevent odours and mould growth the lid should be left open to allow air to circulate. Moving You Freezer • Before moving your freezer, remove all the food. • Lift the appliance to ensure that wooden floors are not damaged. • Ensure that the supply cord is not caught under the appliance during and after moving. • The appliance should only be transported in an upright position. Do not tilt the appliance at an angle greater than 45°. • Leave the appliance to rest for 2 hours before powering up the freezer.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE In the unlikely even of a problem with your chest freezer, please consult the guide below before calling a Service Engineer. PROBLEM Freezer does not operate
Temperature inside the freezer is too warm
Noisy appliance
POSSIBLE CAUSE Appliance not plugged in or mains not switched on. The fuse or circuit breaker has operated. The temperature control is set to ‘OFF’ Lid not closed properly. The lid has been frequently opened. The temperature control is set too low. The rubber seal is not sealing properly. A large amount of fresh food has recently been added to the freezer. Vibrations caused by objects touching the appliance. Vibrations caused by the appliance not being stable or level. Popping, cracking or gurgling sounds from the refrigeration circuit are normal.
