Loudspeaker System Recommendation Chilliwack Alliance Church Prepared for: Contact Distribution Application Engineering Renkus-Heinz, Inc. April 24, 2014 Contents Recommendation ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2-3 Equipment List ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 Array Configuration ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5 EASE mappings ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6-7 Product Datasheets ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Following 8 Design Goals Renkus-Heinz has been asked to recommend a sound reinforcement system for the Chilliwack Alliance Church. Our design goals were to provide a left/right line array solution with front fills for use with contemporary and traditional services.. Of course this performance must be delivered evenly to all seats in the house. Room Details Approximate room dimensions and photographs have been provided to Renkus-Heinz. The room is tapered, approximately 80 feet wide in the front and 150 feet wide in the rear with a sloping ceiling from 43 to 27 feet high in the back. There is also a balcony section which has no under seating. Ceilings appear to be drop-tiles, carpeted floors and padded pews. Recommended Loudspeaker System Renkus-Heinz recommends the CF101LA as an alternative to the VARIA modular array modules. This will be a more economical solution sacrificing only small amounts of coverage variances and sound quality. These can be specified as self-powered with built-in DSP or externally powered. If they are externally powered, we recommend external DSP processing for at least every two cabinets for best performance. Since the CF101LA module is a fixed curve array module, the maximum allowable in this configuration will be 4 cabinets per side. This will reduce max SPL slightly over the previously recommended VARIA system. Front fills across the stage can be CF61R or CFX61, we have modeled four them to be adequate. Loudspeaker mounting location It has been specified that speaker locations must be above the curtain valence which is 24 feet high. This puts the CF101LA arrays at a mounting height of 33 feet AFF. Optional Subwoofers Subwoofers to compliment the above system are recommended to be a minimum of 8x CF15S. These can be placed under or on the stage or even flown. Understanding EASE Mappings in Appendix The system has been designed with the aid of EASE, Enhanced Acoustic Simulator for Engineers, a product of the Ahnert-Feistel Media Group, GmbH, Berlin, Germany. EASE is the international standard for sound-system design and prediction and has been proven accurate in thousands of successful sound system installations world-wide. For more on EASE and sound system prediction, please see AFMG’s website: http://ease.afmg.eu/ “System Coverage” maps show system coverage averaged over two octaves, at the frequency range indicated, of the seating areas at ear height. The mapping is predicted Direct Sound Pressure Level in dB. No room effects are included. These maps do not represent how loud the system will get, but rather consistency of coverage. The “Maximum SPL, A-Weighted” map shows the approximate maximum level the system would reach as shown on an SPL meter set to read broad band, A-weighted, fast. 2 Important Disclaimer: All simulations have been done with industry standard techniques and software using information supplied by others. They are believed to be accurate within normal tolerances for such simulations providing the data supplied was accurate. Renkus-Heinz makes no guarantee that the final system will perform as simulated. Renkus-Heinz guarantees only that any Renkus-Heinz equipment will perform to its published specifications within normal industry tolerances. The above is a recommendation only and is not to be considered or represented as a design by RenkusHeinz. WARNING! With the flexibility to be flown, ground-stacked or pole-mounted, the CF/CFX101LA delivers the performance and pattern control of a line array, with the clarity of a point source system, in a compact, sleek and affordable design that’s equally at home as a portable system or a permanent installation. Alone or combined with the CF/CFX15S subwoofer, the CF/CFX101LA can be flown, ground-stacked, or pole-mounted, or used as a center cluster to complement an existing left-right system, making it the perfect solution for a wide range of installed or portable sound needs. CF101LA HIGHER POWER DENSITY Up to four CF/CFX101LA cabinets can be arrayed to provide a 90 x 60 degree coverage pattern, delivering from 9 dB to 12 dB more output and tighter vertical pattern control than a conventional single cabinet. Traditional line arrays require two or three times as many cabinets to provide the same range of coverage. MODULAR POINT SOURCE WAVEGUIDE - TUNED CONIC DIVERTER When it comes to innovation, once again Renkus-Heinz leads the way. Our new Tuned Conic Diverter carefully manipulates the curvature of the wavefront within the horn so that it's curvature matches the curvature of the array. As sound leaves the compression driver, it's wavefront expansion is at first spherical matching the shape of the bounding side walls. As sound progresses through the horn, it's wavefront is progressively flatened as it passes through a Tuned Conic Diverter which slows the wavefronts expansion at the center relative to the sides, modifying it's curvature to match the shape of the cabinet. With the introduction of the CF/CFX Modular Point Source Array, we have created a modular point source system, fully conforming to the true array principle that is completely free of audible and measurable comb filtering. What you experience is the clarity of a single cabinet, with the power and coverage to satisfy everyone in the audience. Tuned Conic Diverter Page 2 CF/CFX Modular Point Source Array DESIGNED FOR RUGGED DEPENDABILITY Heavy-duty birch ply cabinets, ultra-durable coatings and tough, reinforced hardware are designed to withstand the rigors of the road. MULTI-ANGLE POLE SOCKET All CF/CFX101LA cabinets come standard with an integral multi-angle pole socket allowing the cabinet to be supported on a standard 35mm loudspeaker stand, or on a sturdy pole attached to the subwoofer. This allows the full-range cabinet to be angled straight ahead, up or down as the situation demands for optimum coverage and performance. SAFE & SIMPLIFIED HARDWARE Simple, rugged, integral hardware allows for maximum versatility, maximum safety, and fast setup and teardown. CF/CFX101LA hardware has been designed to work either way up so left and right systems can be setup symmetrically without the need for mirror image cabinets. CF/CFX15S matched subwoofers employ the same simple yet sturdy hardware enabling the system to be flown beneath the subwoofer. QUALITY COMPONENTS Renkus-Heinz uses only the highest quality, lowest-tolerance components and hardware designed for peak performance. From the precisiontuned crossover network, to rugged dependable hardware, CF/CFX101LA delivers. Page 3 CF/CFX Modular Point Source Array CF/CFX101LA The CF/CFX101LA Point Array Module has been designed with your requirements for flexibility in mind. Each cabinet can be pole mounted, flown from a frame or suspended using M10 eyebolts. Suited equally to fixed installation or portable applications each array module offers a consistent 90 degree horizontal and tight 15 degree vertical coverage. Neodymium magnets on the single 10” Low Frequency woofer and dual 1” High Frequency compression drivers provide the ideal balance of power and portability, while the revolutionary performance of the Tuned Conic Diverter waveguide ensures the smoothest possible transition between cabinets. CF/CFX Point Array is a true point source arrayable system offering the benefits of both line and point source arrays. • Outstanding Performance • Dual 1” HF Drivers and High Power 10” Woofer • Neodymium Magnet Structures • Great Versatility • Exclusive Tuned Conic Diverter • Tight Pattern Control • Reliable, Easy-To-Use Hardware • Flexible Input Configurations CFX101LA-8 Connector Plate • Switchable Biamp / Passive HIGH FREQUENCY ARRAY CONTROL As the CF/CFX101LA can be used in many and varied combinations simple High Frequency level control switches are provided on the back of each cabinet. The user can select between a Flat response for a single cabinet, or boost the HF by +6dB or +9dB depending on how many cabinets are in the array and how much throw is required. Page 4 CF/CFX101LA CF/CFX Modular Point Source Array CF/CFX15S Subwoofer CF15S and CFX15S-8 subwoofers were developed as companion pieces to the CF/CFX series point source array modules. They provide the high impact sub bass energy needed in many venues and also serve as a mounting platform for both stacked and flown arrays. Along with being a dedicated companion subwoofer to the CF/CFX101LA Point Source Array, it can be used to create directional cardiod and steerable arrays as well. Using RHAON, these arrays can then be "steered" to put sub frequencies where they are needed, avoiding floor, ceiling, and rear wall reflections for maximum clarity and impact. ADVANCED AUDIO TECHNOLOGY VERSATILE Advanced Audio Technology INNOVATIVE DESIGN Safe & Simplified Hardware The Tuned Conic Converter Designed for power, portability and versatility, CF/CFX101LA modular point source line array systems from Renkus-Heinz are the ideal solution for today's small and mid-sized venues, including auditoriums, night clubs, theaters and houses of worship. Line arrays rely upon their ability to convert the spherical wavefront of a typical loudspeaker into a planar (flat) wavefront that couples coherently with the output of adjacent modules to create a plane wave. Plane waves diminish less rapidly over distance (3 dB loss for every doubling of distance) than spherical waves that decay 6 dB every time the distance doubles. CF101LA / CFX101LA Point Source Line Array Module Our new Tuned Conic Diverter carefully shapes the curvature of the wavefront within the horn so that it's curvature matches the curvature of the array and couples seamlessly with adjacent modules. Suited equally to fixed installation or portable applications the full range cabinets offer consistent 90o horizontal and tight 15o vertical coverage. Their controlled coverage pattern allows them to outperform larger 12” and 15” loudspeakers in many applications as their output can be directed onto the audience instead of into the walls and ceiling. Individual full range cabinets can be stacked or arrayed with each cabinet increasing the vertical coverage by 15o degrees. Up to four full-range modules can be ground stacked to provide a 90o by 60o coverage pattern with up to 9 dB more output and tighter vertical pattern control than a conventional single cabinet. Traditional line arrays require two or three times as many cabinets to provide the same range of coverage and control. The CF/CFX101LA point source line array modules and matching subwoofers have been designed with portability and flexibility in mind. Alone or combined with the matching CF/CFX15S 15” subwoofer,up to 6 full-range CF/CFX101LA modules can be flown, making them the perfect solution for a wide range of installed systems or portable sound needs. The possible combinations and applications are almost endless. Neodymium magnets on the single 10" low frequency woofer and dual 1" High Frequency compression drivers provide the ideal balance of power and portability, while the revolutionary performance of the Tuned Conic Diverter waveguide ensures the smoothest possible transition between cabinets. Simple, rugged, integral hardware allows for maximum versatility, maximum safety, and fast setup and teardown. When it comes to innovation, once again Renkus-Heinz leads the way. With the flexibility to be flown, ground-stacked or pole-mounted, the modular CF/CFX101LA point source line array systems deliver the high level performance and pattern control of a line array, with the clarity of a point source system, in a compact, sleek and affordable design that's equally at home as a portable system or in a permanent installation. Individual full range cabinets can be used as a stand-alone system, either with or without an associated subwoofer. They can be flown using Metric M10 eye-bolts or pole mounted on a matching subwoofer or standard loudspeaker tripod stand. A multi-angled pole socket allows them to be aimed stright ahead or angled up or down. FLEXIBLE HARDWARE CF101LA/CFX101LA Point Source line Array with matching subwoofer CF101LA and CFX101LA point source line arrays are true point source line array systems offering the benefits of both point source loudspeakers and line arrays. Metric M10 attachment points allow individual modules to be easily flown with eye bolts. Multiple full range modules can be ground stacked or pole mounted using the matching subwoofer as a base Up to 6 modules and two subwoofers can be flown. The array modules and subwoofers are joined together with heavy-duty tie bars and quick-disconnect pins that provide easy assembly along with metal-to-metal reliability. The matching subwoofers employ the same simple yet sturdy hardware enabling full range array modules to be flown beneath the subwoofer. An associated flybar that attaches easily to the subwoofer completes the package. As sound progresses through the horn, it's wavefront is progressively manipulated, passing through a tuned conic diverter, slowing the wavefront's expansion in the center and modifying its curvature to match the shape of the cabinet. CF/CFX101LA hardware has been designed to work either way so left and right systems can be setup symmetrically without the need for mirror image cabinets. HF Balance Control Multi-Angle Pole Sockets An adjustable HF balance control panel on each full range module allows you to adjust the high frequency output of each module to compensate for the changes in high frequency coupling that occurs between adjacent modules in multi-module line arrays. Multi-angle 35 mm pole sockets allow CF101LA and CFX101LA array modules to be mounted on standard loudspeaker stands or on heavy duty pole mounts attached to an associated CF15S or CFX15S subwoofer. The multi-angle socket allows the cabinet to be aimed straight ahead or angled up or down depending on the needs of the venue. It is invaluable in helping you assure that every member of the audience receives the same well balanced sound, even those seated in the rear of the audience area. Renkus-Heinz Audio Operations Network RHAON is the first practical system to combine individual loudspeaker control and supervision of self-powered loudspeaker systems with digital audio distribution. RHAON puts you in total control of: – A powerful DSP inside each loudspeaker on the Ethernet network that includes eight bands of parametric EQ, high and low frequency shelving filters, input level control, muting and up to 340 ms of delay. – Monitoring of each loudspeakers critical operating parameters such as signal clipping, amplifier output voltage and current and temperature with automatic alert functions. – Real time digital audio distribution over standard Ethernet networks using proven CobraNet technology to deliver multiple channels of high quality digital audio over a CAT 5 cable.
