Drawn by: Chris Smythe Design Revision: V1.0 Date: 03/04/2017 Cinema Room Project 2 CINEMA SYSTEM: VIEWING ANGLES Viewing Angles Industry standards set out by THX and SMPTE recommend the following viewing angles: 80 degrees Widest acceptable. May lead to viewer fatigue over long periods 62 degrees Widest recommended by SMPTE 45 degrees Reference viewing angle by THX/ SMPTE 36 degrees Narrowest recommended viewing angle by THX 26 degrees Narrowest acceptable viewing angle by THX We would always recommend the 45 degree viewing angle due to it providing the most immersive visual experience 3 CINEMA SYSTEM: IDEAL SEATING POSITION Seating Area Acceptable Seating Area Industry standards set out by THX and SMPTE recommend that the seating area is within a 60 degree arc from the centre of the screen. The recommended seating area that is within the following viewing angles is shown by the blue hatched area on the drawing. 60 degrees Widest recommended by SMPTE Ideal Seating Area 4 CINEMA SYSTEM: BARCO ORION Projector Positioning When positioning your projector, it should be located as far behind the sitting positions as possible to minimise the distraction from the audio visual experience. The ideal position for the Barco Orion CinemaScope projector when fitted with the optional EN56 zoom lens, is shown by the solid outline. The broken outline is the maximum forward position. 5 CINEMA SYSTEM: BARCO ORION Projector Beam Lines To allow fully unobstructed projector beam lines to the screen, we suggest to ceiling mount your projectors. The images display the suggested and maximum forward location for the Barco Orion projector. The solid outline is our suggested position. The broken line is the maximum forward position based on the correct lens for the room. 6 CINEMA SYSTEM: BARCO BALDER Projector Positioning When positioning your projector, it should be located as far behind the sitting positions as possible to minimise the distraction from the audio visual experience. The ideal position for the Barco Balder CinemaScope projector when fitted with the optional EN43 zoom lens, is shown by the solid outline. The broken outline is the maximum forward position. 7 CINEMA SYSTEM: BARCO BALDER Projector Beam Lines To allow fully unobstructed projector beam lines to the screen, we suggest to ceiling mount your projectors. The images display the suggested and maximum forward location for the Barco Balder projector. The solid outline is our suggested position. The broken line is the maximum forward position based on the correct lens for the room. 8 STANDARD SYSTEM 9 STANDARD SYSTEM: SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL SPL > 105dB The maximum sound pressure level (SPL) is determined by the Centre channel speaker. High performance cinemas meet the THX Reference specification of 105dB at the listening positions. The DSP520 speaker can deliver over 100dB to all seating positions. SPL > 100dB SPL < 100dB 10 STANDARD SYSTEM: SPEAKER LAYOUT DSP520 Loudspeaker Rear Left DSP520 Loudspeaker DSW Side Left Subwoofer DSP520 Loudspeaker Front Left DYNAMIC2S Projection Screen DSP520 Loudspeaker Centre DSP520 Loudspeaker Front Right DSP520 Loudspeaker Rear Right DSP520 Loudspeaker Side Right DSW Subwoofer 11 STANDARD SYSTEM: LEFT, CENTRE & RIGHT Screen Mask DYNAMIC2S Projection Screen DSP520 Loudspeaker DSP520 Loudspeaker Front Left Front Right DSW DSP520 Loudspeaker Subwoofer Centre DSW Subwoofer Standard Left, Centre & Right Channels The Left, Centre & Right channel audio is produced by Meridian DSP520 loudspeakers installed behind the projection screen. The projection screen is a DT Screens Dynamic Masking screen with a native screen ratio of 2.35:1. The screen has built in side screen masks that alter the visible area on the screen dependent on what the viewing source material is. This configuration allows the tallest screen height at all times. The image above shows the masks creating a 16:9 screen ratio. The native visible screen width is 3600mm and the material used to construct the screen is acoustically transparent so not to colour the sound produced. 12 STANDARD SYSTEM: SIDE SPEAKER LAYOUT DSP520 Loudspeaker Rear Channels DSP520 Loudspeaker DSP520 Loudspeaker Side Channels Front Channels DYNAMIC 2S Screen Mask Projection Screen DSW Subwoofer 13 STANDARD SYSTEM: REAR SPEAKER LAYOUT DSP520 Loudspeaker Rear Right DSP520 Loudspeaker Rear Left 14 STANDARD SYSTEM: WIRING DIAGRAM Video Sources HD621 HDMI Audio Processor The Meridian Standard 7.2 Cinema Specification is designed to provide the viewers with an immersive audio visual experience. Each stage brings increased performance. Stage 1 Side Walls Scattering panels and applied to the side wall reflection points to enhance and control reflection. Foamsorber panels are used to control reverberation for the prime seating positions. Stage 1 requires a total of two CATS packs one pack for each side wall. These are centred to treat as many reflection points as possible. CATS Scattering Panel CATS Foamsorber Panel 32 CATS SYSTEM: STAGE 2 CATS Packs is a pre-packaged treatment solution that can be implemented in four stages. Each stage brings increased performance. Stage 2 Rear Wall In addition to Stage 1, Scattering panels are applied behind the seated head locations on the back wall to enhance and control reflection. Foamsorber panels are used to control reverberation and resonance for all seating positions. The rear wall is treated with two CATS Packs. The scattering panels encompass the entire width of all seated head locations within the room. CATS Scattering Panel CATS Foamsorber Panel 33 CATS SYSTEM: STAGE 3 CATS Packs is a pre-packaged treatment solution that can be implemented in four stages. Each stage brings increased performance. Stage 3 Side Walls In addition to Stages 1 & 2, positioned around surround speakers, Foamsorber panels are used to enhance clarity of the side surround speakers. Scattering panels are used to enhance and control reverberation throughout the seating area. CATS Scattering Panel CATS Foamsorber Panel 34 CATS SYSTEM: STAGE 4 CATS Packs is a pre-packaged treatment solution that can be implemented in four stages. Each stage brings increased performance. Stage 4 Ceiling and front wall In addition to all previous Stages, Scattering panels are applied to the first reflection points to enhance and control reflection from the ceiling. Foamsorber panels are used to reduce reverberation, resonance and increase clarity throughout the seating area. The front wall and ceiling are treated with two CATS Packs each. The scattering panels are positioned to encompass the entire width of the seated head locations in the room.
